Horncats interested in Al Jefferson

Hearing fans complained about Jefferson being a bum and defensive liability is like offering to buy a homeless something to eat and they deny bc they rather have money. You can only have one thing. Find me a center in this free agency other than Howard who can bring both an offensive and defensive game. Answer: none. At this time, I rather have a offensive big than a defensive specialist.

I like Jefferson, he's got a go to skill (post scoring) and his game isnt based on athleticism so I'm not worried about him declining with age.

What does worry me is that he has always played for bad teams.  Obviously his teammates play a big part in that, but the last time his team won a playoff game he was a rookie in Boston playing back-up center behind Raef Lafrentz

How does that worry you? For example only, does it worry you if we want to go after a Kyrie Irving, John Wall, Monroe or Cousins in the future. I bet you wouldn't at all, and those are guys who hasn't even taste winning before. Big Al is the closet thing that will get us near the Playoffs.

Even if we end up with zero draft picks in next years draft we still will have assets like future picks and young players that can get us back in next year's draft.

But even if we don't get in the draft we have a poo ton of money coming off the books again. Which means even if we miss the draft we will have the money to get actual proven high quality players.

Next years draft is still an unknown. What if some of them aren't as good as you think they are now or some of them do what Smart from OK State did and go back to possibly be the #1 pick instead of the #4 of #5 pick.

What happens if we don't sign Jefferson but our players continue to develop, Zeller proves he is a player, and we still win 30-35 games? We would be in the same boat only without one of the best offensive centers in the league.

All decent points but addressing the last on in particular. If we won that many games without Al that would be awesome and preferable in my opinion. I guess it boils down to the fact Im not a huge fan of Jefferson. Im not saying he is a bad player but I don't see him as someone worth building around. And giving him a huge contract says he is that kind of player. If he came here for around 4 years 44 million im all for it but 4 years 60+ million is a massive overpay in my admittedly biased opinion.

Yeah Jefferson is underrated.  Like I said, ive never been a fan, but I would GLADLY take Jefferson at 4/70.  Id almost bet if he signs here, he would be an all-star.  Not exactly thrilled about paying him on average 17.5 million(Id do 4 yr, 60 mil tops) but hes a big who can score and rebound the basketball.  This also takes the pressure off of Zeller to become the go to scorer down low, and allows Biyombo less pressure to develop quickly.

I read where people expect something like 70 mill over 4 years. Bynum at like 75-80 mill over 4. I'd rather take Jefferson than Bynum's issues though.

If they pay him that much it is an absolute horrible move.

Big men are expensive, especially 18ppg 9rpg 1bpg ones.  That's just the nature of the business.  We'll still have plenty of money left over when Gordon's deal ends and we can amnesty Tyrus.   Chris Bosh makes more than that and I think  Jefferson @ 70 would be a bit more fair.
