Frank Scwhab: Cam Newton’s greatness is being overshadowed by a lot of needless criticism

You are wrong for this post on so many levels. Why did you do this to your credibility?

Agreed, cause I don't see RG3 as "charismatic" during interviews. Not in the least. He's just like any other QB, that wants to get it over.

That must have been the poster own interpretation, or misunderstanding of the word.  Lol.

Idk about you guys but RGIII smells like arogance to me.

Agreed.

Cam's comes off as much more humble (though actual observation).

However, through the media filter (and receptive numbskulls), they've some how convinced them that Cam is the Arrogant, or more arrogant one, despite his repeated demonstrations of humility.

Go Figure.

Would you like Cam if he wore a different jersey? Not would you feel differently about him, but would you like him? I dont think I would.. I would probably buy into the media's spin on him. But he wears a Carolina jersey so I love his demeanor, regardless. I am a Panther fan, thats what I do...

This is what I liked from the article:

No way but up....

That is well put. Cam is very much an enigma. His own teamates don't  know who he is really. Tom Sorenson and Taylor Zazour had a great conversation a couple weeks ago on the radio that shed  light on both Cam, Jerry Richardson, and numerous other things.

I am paraphrasing and going off memory but Tom was talking about how Jerry Richardson has this public perception of him that is completely opposite of what he really is. Said how respected he is and anyone who has ever spent just a few moments with him would come away with thinking how personable Jerry is and would be very impressed because he is a commanding but likeable presence. He won't be in the public eye because he is a shy person but no one is better on a one on one session and the players and those close to him love him.

On the other hand, someone could spend an hour with Cam and still walk away and not have a clue as to who he is or what he is about. Tom (and Taylor) wasn't saying it in a bad way just that Cam is very enigmatic. His coaches don't really know him, his teamates don't really know him (Gross, Smitty, etc. have publicly hinted to this) and the media certainly doesn't know him. It was a very insightful conversation that they had.

Everyone knows Smitty, Gross, Hardy, etc. and their personalities and can come to the conclusion whether you like them or not. Absolutely no one knows who Cam Newton is. That isn't a bad thing but people aren't going to easily warm up to something or someone they don't releate to. Bottom line though is none of that matters as long as you just play the game and win games. As everyone knows, winning fixes everything.

All I know is that I am watching a HOF career from the inception. And that makes my giddy happy.

I remember talking to my brother in law before the draft. I said that Cam was a scary QB. Talented as all get out, but with questions galore. I even said I really wasn't sure I wanted him as our QB because I was afraid of those questions.

I have never been so happy to be wrong. Because I don't think Cam has done one thing wrong since we signed him. He ain't perfect, but no one is. Well, except the wife of course.

Cam is just that good. He scares the establishment because he doesn't fit the mold. Who fugging cares about the mold? There is only 1 Cam, and I for one am glad he is ours.

Ah just what the huddle needs, more baseless rumors!

"Nobody really knows him." What kind of underhanded crap is that? Talk about reaching.

Sorenson and some dipshit radio dj who may have met him for an hour know him well enough to make such ridiculous statements about him as a person? I expect it from national media, but this being local disappoints.

So players are hinting about him now. Care to link us to any of these "hints" sir?

Of all the stuff that I've read about him this offseason, this is right near the top of most ridiculous.

I did not say rg3 was better than cam or anything like that, I believe rg3's career will be nothing like cams. Maybe it did not come out right but rg3 is very articulate in his interviews and I can see how that makes you a media darling and a lot of times cam seems like his dog ran away. Maybe its just the ones I have seen, I do not know and it's just my opinion. YMMV

I know you didn't say he was better. I could care less about that personally. I know our QB is talented.

What you touched on has been a popular topic about him and something you can read between the lines on.

I'm not saying that's what you did, but there are ignorant people outside and even inside our fanbase who do. I'd rather Cam be himself and not have to put up a front to appease anyone because he doesn't fit their stereotypes.

If the team makes the playoffs next season and wins a game or two, and Cam has pretty much the same stats as last season, they'll be saying he had a great comeback year after his sophomore slump. That 2nd season slump is such a myth, but it's so entrenched that anything but a big improvement over season one is portrayed as running off into the ditch.
