Anybody else dated a nurse?

Mr. Scot

Recommended Posts

Technically only a CNA right now, but planning to go for her RN soon.

Right now, she's working some pretty crazy hours. To be fair, she's actually working a second job, but her primary job has her working overnight three or four days a week.

I'm wondering if any spouses of nurses - or nurses themselves - on board can tell me if the hours get better over time or if that's just a 'the way it is' kinda thing.

To be clear, it doesn't cause any friction between us. Nor does it put me off of dating her in any way. Just something I'm wondering.

Most nurses I know get burned out fairly quickly due to constant long hours. Depends exactly where she works though. private practice clinic = steady hours

Primary job - small hospital

Second job - hospice

At home - single mom of two teenagers

For the record, she loves her work, but not necessarily her employers.

The hours don't really improve a whole lot, it's usually 10-12 hour shifts with an option of working night shifts or weekend shifts. The weekend shifts and late night shifts usually give out a nice bonus of like 500-1000 a week for just working those shifts though. Just really depends on the hospital your working at.  These are RN hours of course, but the time off "3 days a week usually" Plus the bonus money makes it worth it. lol    If she's planning on becoming an RN, I'd advise her to work at a smaller hospital that needs weekend shifts worked to pick up the bonus so she can quite the other job.

My view of marriage is that if she is happy you will be too.

In my opinion it sounds like a nightmare. But I'm also an idiot.

Sounds exactly like my friend's mom but except for the fact that we're both in college now (but our siblings are still in HS). Either way good for you scot!

At an earlier point in her life...

- working two jobs

- taking two college classes

- raising two kids on her own

- no child support from her ex

No idea how she did it, but she's an amazing woman.

Pretty sure I have outkicked my coverage here, but I'm okay with it :D

    • Reasonable. I mean I didn’t see a clear path to relief this season myself. As I have typed already, I think the QB FA class is more interesting next season and that draft is supposed to be stacked as well. There just weren’t many options this year.  When you have Tepper to contend with you have to tread lightly around this unless you are 100% certain and willIng to stake your job on it.   There were a couple of outings that helped Bryce a lot in terms of  thinking maybe he can do this, and if you are a supporter you are giving them a lot of weight. You are likely to think just get him some more help and he can do that every week. Which I think Tepper falls into that category.  And the playoffs, division champs, regardless of the way I see that, the supporters will also give that a lot of weight.    And the big one, the atmosphere In BOA for that WC game, Tepper had to be soiling himself over that. If you pulled Bryce out right now you had better be right and your new guy had better make the playoffs and look good doing it or you will be gone and your chance to build your old team back into respectability will be gone too.  So here we have Pickett on a one year deal, and Grier and King. I understand it.
    • Well, seeing as we play the Lions at home this year, pretty sure that rumor isn't true.
