Charlotte Bobcats 2013 Las Vegas Summer League Thread

Ok I think I got it figured out...

- If the D-League Select team beats Dallas we will be the 6th seed in the tournament and play the winner of the 11th seed and 22nd seed game on Thursday at 6:00 P.M.

- If Dallas beats the D-League Select team we will be the 5th seed in the tournament and play the winner of the 12th seed and 21st seed game on Thursday at 6:30 P.M.

For the sake of not wanting to watch the game online, I think our best bet is to hope that the D-League Select team beats the Mavericks because based on the current setup, it looks like NBA TV is broadcasting the games that are the top of each our (for example: 4 PM, 6 PM, 8 PM, and 10 PM).

Note: If we get the 5th seed and you want to watch our game on a good stream, you will have to pay $5.00 for NBA Summer League Live.

Looks like McLemore finally showed up (26 points), but I am glad we drafted Zeller instead.

Yeah, didn't see that until the end of the game.  I was still surprised, every minute I was watching he looked horrible.

But, I expect that to kind of be who he is over an entire season - several games of horrible shooting, very few points, followed by an occasional 20+ point night, but nothing you can depend on.

Here's an article on Bobcats Summer League Prospect Henry Sims...

What I take most from this article is the fact that Coach Cliff is going to give some of the prospects from time on the floor now. I hope he still lets our roster players play their minutes because at the end of the day I want to win that damn championship lol.

The Bobcats, 2-1 this summer, have at least two additional games in Las Vegas, more if they advance in the tournament-style draw. Clifford said he has accomplished what he set out to do with the contract players, and will give the tryout guys more minutes in the remaining games.

“We haven’t had the chance to give him the minutes he really deserves,” Clifford said of Sims. “He’s very smart, he’s a good worker and he’s very skilled. I would think he has a great chance to be on an NBA roster.”

It looks like we're finally going to see guys like Jamie Skeen, Rodney McGruder, Nick Barbour, Soloman Jones, and Deron Washington.

Understandable, but I'm sure the guys want to win.

If coaches are gonna sit their regulars after three games, then they might as well only play three games.

Also MKG got hurt last year and it didn't hamper him from being ready for the NBA season.

And if they get hurt, at least they are getting hurt playing basketball and not doing something stupid.

Ok, I think I figured it out...

The Bobcats will be the 5th seed because the head-to-head tie breaker only applies to teams you directly face not common opponents. The Bobcats were awarded the fifth seed over Toronto based on point differential and were higher seeded than the Cavaliers, Lakers, Bucks, Spurs, and Pelicans due to the point scoring system.

So here it is... (I think)

    • So the last guy who had the job got hired by his former team directly into a role he has no direct experience in?
    • Hard to pass up millions for a couple of days work per week for a coaching gig in the NFL that is 60-80 hours each week during the season and a more relaxed 50 hours a week during the off season. Yeah, I'd love to see him as our DC but hard to see him giving up the cushy job there if he gets it. And he's going to be a great commentator for the network.
    • Really, I think that is where negotiations come in. If you've got a QB getting you to 10 wins but statistically he's not a great performer, then you say look you can take $22 million or you can try it on the market. Because let's face it, out there, any leadership skills that we're seeing aren't going to be on the table, it's just going to be performance and that lands him in the QB2 market, which is much, much less lucrative (although any of us would love that money).  No one is saying that Bryce will be a $50 million QB, barring something short of a miraculous jump. I'm just saying that if we are winning somehow with him at the helm, then it would be fuging stupid to dive back into the rookie pool all over again. Let's say we do hit the 10 win mark, heck, let's call it 11 and a second round in the playoffs. I think we can all say that would be a really uplifting result and one that should be doable if we have good play. What do we do then? Here's what I would offer if I were Morgan and Tepper. $25 million a year for 3 years, each year with up to $10 million in incentives for touchdowns, wins, playoff depth, being under 10 interceptions, completing a full season, passing yardage milestones, taking less than 15 sacks. Look, Bryce isn't a Ferrari, he isn't a Corvette, or a mid-level BMW. He's probably a new Toyota Sienna that will definitely get you somewhere and bring the whole team along with it, no fuss but not a lot of pizazz.  And really, it's about the destination, not about what drove you there.
