Kroger is buying Harris Teeter

Harris Teeter is so freaking expensive, I rarely shop there. I only go there for meat when I buy meat. Almost everything is noticeably cheaper at Food Lion. But nothing beats the produce stand in Mint Hill. I get most of my groceries there for the week and spend about $46.00.

The one on lawyers and 51?

Kroger is one of the largest grocers in the world. They did 90 BILLION in revenue last year.

They make Publix look small.

Nothing is going to chance. This area already had BiLo, Food Lion, Walmart, and Compare Foods for the 'bargain' shoppers.

HT is the only upscale supermarket in the area with a large footprint. Kroger is going to keep HT just as they are. They'll probably keep much of the same management staff in place. I know they're keeping the offices here and the distribution center. That doesn't mean nobody will lose their jobs in corporate, but the losses should be minimal if there are any at all.

Wife just got off the phone with some of her contacts in the HT corporate office....higher ups.

The plan (at least as it has been described to them) will be business as usual for the HT operation.  VERY few people will lose their jobs in the forseeable future.  The operations will continue to be run by the existing management team.

The sale was about as good as it could have been for the existing work force in Matthews.

Makes sense.

As far as my impression of Kroger, it was more or less a result of my own experience growing up.  We had one in Fayetteville up until I was about 10 or so, then they shut it down and we never had another one in the area.  And as a kid, it seemed like EVERYONE did their shopping there, so I had always wondered why they would close.

When I went to college, there were several all over the Raleigh/Durham area and I even worked for one prior to starting school, and it was unimpressive to say the least.

Yeah that's where I normally go. I typically cook vegetarian dinners so I get most of my groceries from there.

We eat lots of veggies, I drive by that place everyday and I see many people out there. I do all my shopping for veggies at HT and TJ. I might swing by today. Do they accept credit cards?

Looks like I will be transitioning to Costco and Trader Joes

They are doing this because Publix will eat their lunch

This.  Publix absolutely destroys HT.

If you support Publix, you support the Empire.  Just sayin'.

I was on vacation in FL, so that's about all you got.

But, The Empire had umbrella stands outside the door so you could borrow an umbrella during a downpour.
