Brandon Williams Defying The Odds

Recommended Posts

Let's clear this up.  Hartsock was brought here to block.  His resume was every year he had played till he came to Carolina his team had 1000 yr backs.  So say what you want about his catching ability but don't say he is just OK at run blocking to justify why you want to keep Williams.

That said.  The choice is.  Do you want to keep a Good Blocking TE with sub-par hands or Do you want a TE who has soft hands and is a sub-par blocker.   Do you want a veteran that will do his job well or a Rookie with an unlimited potential.

If you choose the veteran be happy if he has 10 catches but blocks well for our stable of running backs.

If you choose the Rookie hope he catches 20-30 passes but don't bitch when he misses a key block.

At the beginning of camp I thought Olsen and Hartsock were locks.  Now I believe only Olsen is safe.  I think Williams will learn to be a good blocker.  I think he has the body to be a great TE.  But, if we take him on and he learns on the fly because we'll lose him on the practice squad.  We have to take the bad with the good.  Cause as a rookie who hasn't played in 2 yrs.  He is going to be bad sometimes.  Maybe real bad.  But the upside is too good to pass up.

What it boils down to is we can replace Hartsock but we may never get another opportunity to grab a potential Stud for nothing like we did with Williams.
