By week 3 against the Giants...

Mr. Scot

Chris Snee has been inactive for the Giants this season so far but is expected to make it back in time for the season. That means there are a couple of Giants guards that Gettleman is familiar with who have gotten in extra work this year. Could be tempting for Gettleman should a release happen, or even a trade, if those backups have looked good.

Interesting scenario.

All that mumbo jumbo is the point.  There are not going to be any guys who are cut who are better than what we have.  This year is different than in years past given not many guys are out there and many of those who would have been there are already playing on other teams.

This is what I'm contesting.  That is a pretty bold and pessimistic statement.   Optimism not required but that statement could end up being true but there are  so many guards out there that there is a real good possibility that we can upgrade and if can then any upgrade we get will be almost if not  starter quality ( for us at least)  You say this like you've personally scouted and know that all other options are garbage

The backup to one of the best guards in the league could very well be better than our starter. Garry would not start in NY. Therefore their backup may be compared to him.

Certainly possible but they got rid of Hangman for Williams so it would have to be a very good player.

I have listened to guys like Pat Kirwan and Tim Ryan talk to various callers over the past few weeks who have all called in and suggested they could pick a starter in the final cuts to make up for the starters who have gone down or who were not performing.  Over and over they have said they have looked at who is available and who is likely to get cut and they said you aren't going to get a starter from that group.

So I listen to those who are in the know and repeat what they said.  So yeah the people I have listened to who are in the know and talk to professional scouts have said that we won't be finding a starter that way.  Next.........

Pat Kirwin was a GM for the Jets and Ryan was an O linemen for years and does play by play for CBS games when he isn't on radio.  Kirwin has one of the best books on football for the fan.  So yeah they know what they are talking about.  Don't know what that has to do with winning or losing though.  Thought we were sharing ideas not competing for a prize.

The point is if everyone knew what they were doing then gems would never  fall to cuts but they in fact do fall and if some of fans fears of our O-lines ineptitude are true then I would think absolutely there is upgrades out there.....not talking all pro or probowl even but servicable  players.  They can talk all they want write whatever they want but all they have is speculation not facts.  Not to mention teams usually have a few surprise cuts or trying to hide players on their practice squads.  I agree there are no SEXY -SPOT ON- Bonifide no brainers out there but  trust me they are looking and there could be some options there.

My self personally if we truly need to upgrade the G spot in a real bad way a (never thought to see this said on this board) trade could possibly be made for a prized backup G  if say our 3-5 WR's continue to impress (hixon, edwards, gettis)  One of them would make nice trade bait to a team needing a WR.  I know you will not  get a probolwer for one of them but maybe that guy the G man is looking for riding the pine will do. Who knows

I can't believe I even speculated we may have enough depth at WR to actually trade one....but I DID.     Really though I feel like this year we will have 3-4 competent WR's for the first time since  Muhammad, Smith, Proehl

A. The starting offensive line will include...

B. The starting offensive line should include...

(explain your answer on the second)

Do we stand pat, hope for a surprise final cut, look to unsigned free agents, hit the waiver wire, sign a veteran after week one, trade for help, something else...what?

How do you configure the O-Line for the rest of the season?

A- Starting line Gross, Silatolu, Kalil, Kugbila, Bell

Stewart - will be our rushing leader

B- The starting O-line should be Gross, Silatolu, Kalil, Kugbila, & Bell   because it has good balance of players who are  technical and players that uses their athleticism

. Even though they are from D-II school they both have size, power, athletic ability  to anchor the lines for years. With a pro bowl center this group will be able to protect Cam in pass protection as both are good against bull rush and will excel more  in the run game.( which will drop pass rushing pressure on them.)

Byron Bell needs to get conditioned to have better movement. Although his pass protection skills are his weakest link he excels in the run game and we have no viable backup that can take his spot or FA that could make better impact than Bell as of now. Plus he had RG last year who was getting pushed around like a rag doll.

Gross and Kalil - their career speaks for them.

I feel like the Panthers will be picking up one maybe two guards once the cuts are made across the league. There will certainly be veterans cut as room is made for the younger guys. Another team's aging but solid veteran could come here and be a bright spot on the line for us.

Is this the same post every year?
