Marshall Mathers LP 2

Eminem's new album is coming out later this year... and it's titled the Marshall Mathers LP 2.  Pretty bold fuging title, and it's gonna carry some pretty lofty expectations.  It's being produced by Dr. Dre (per usual) along with music legend Rick Rubin.

Here's a Beats commercial promoting the new single with him sporting his old bleach blonde hair look (looks like he's committed to the look at least):

Kinda' got the whole Beastie Boys vibe going on.

And here's the single:

I'll admit, I was like 'dafuq is this' on the first listen... but after a few more replays it kinda' grew on me a little.  Actually really digging it now and it's nostalgic as hell.  He's definitely went back to his roots a bit here and takes quite a few subtle jabs (that you likely won't pick up until a few listens) at the state of the music industry nowadays.

Looks like Slim Shady is back... again.  What you guys think?

I hope he can pull up some of that old Eminem because I haven't been feeling his stuff since after the 3rd album. I felt like he just started churning out crap and riding on his reputation he built through his early work. I hope he went back to his roots...

It's honestly going to be hard to top SSLP, MMLP, and TES obviously.  But yeah... Encore was straight garbage mostly aside from maybe a couple of tracks.  I know I'm in the minority here, but I actually liked Relapse (a few of the songs were terrible though), I thought some of the tracks had some of his best flows.

And Recovery was just way too poppy... the exact thing he made a career off of making fun of.  Almost seemed like a bit of a sell-out kind of move.

I like the snippets he's shown of this new one so far though.  At least he's let it be known he's got high standards going in just by the name of the album itself, and at the very least he seems to be in character for it.  You don't just make a sequel to the largest selling rap album of all time and half ass it.  At least I'd hope he's smarter than that.

i just like the funky, groovy old school feel of it with the samples. and the lyrics follow that old school feel as well. its like he gave shotouts to beastie boys, ll cool j and doug e fresh/slick rick. all his influences minus redman.

it's just a great first single cause it lets you know what he is trying to do with this record along with the title of the record. but i've listened to this 5 times and i'm going to buy the album when it comes out based on just the first single. there is a lot going on that people are missing i think.
