Power Rankings Week 2

Power rankings are starting to come out. Don't expect to move up until we actually win a game.

ESPN #24 (-1)

Career lows in offense for Cam Newton, but the rush defense looked great. The Seahawks had 26 rush yards after contact, their second-lowest game total since the start of 2011.

FOX Sports #27 (+1)

The Panthers invested the 14th and the 44th overall picks of the 2013 NFL Draft on interior defensive linemen and it showed on Sunday. The Panthers' defense may be one of the most improved units in all of football this season but their offense simply didn't show up on Sunday.

CBS Sports #24 (-5)

So much for the new-look offense helping to get Cam Newton going. They struggled offensively against the Seahawks.

SB Nation #20 (-2)

The defense is worlds better than it was last year, thanks largely to an upgraded defensive line and another season of Luke Kuechly backing them up. Unfortunately, the offense doesn't look any less confused than it did last year.

Walter Football #20 (+5)

PFT #27

Playing a good team close at home no longer will cut it in Carolina.

LI Newsday #27 (-3)

Not a good way for newly named captain Cam Newton to get things rolling. Manages only 125 passing yards against the Seahawks in a desultory 12-7 home loss. Not a good day for new offensive coordinator Mike Shula either.

Yahoo #17 (-6)

If DeAngelo Williams doesn't fumble at the 8-yard line, they're probably top 10. Alas, they're here.

Reddit r/NFL #20 (-2)

A late fumble from RB Williams wrecked a chance to eke out a win against the Seahawks in a game that resembled a street fight more than a football game. While Panthers fans are understandably crushed, the defense proved to be monstrous while Cam Newton was quietly efficient behind a strong run game.

Interesting piece on Seattle's ranking

The message here: Don't panic. Over half the teams in the league would've fallen to the Panthers on Sunday; Wilson, who was 14-of-18 passing for 198 yards and a touchdown in the second half, was a big reason they didn't.

LOL, and then you rank us at 21 after dropping 2 points down?

    • Well, they're both in the same league (if you will). During preseason, Fitz went 3/3 & Sauls went 5/6, but of course Sauls was 4/4 last night (including one 50+). Both were Lou Groza Award finalists. I believe Fitz made two 55+ yarders last season, while Sauls led the nation with three. Fitz was 13/13 (💯) while Sauls was 21/24 (87.5). Fitz was a 3rd-Team AP All-American, while Sauls was a PFF All-American.  Career-wise, Fitz was 58/74 (78.4), while Sauls was 52/64 (81.3). I wish that I could see the attempts and knew the depth of yardage. I wish that we could compare practice kicks during their training camps, but we can't. Maybe someone with a PFF/CFF account can give that Basically it's just a matter of belief I guess. Seeing dude knock down four FGs and go perfect during a pressure-filled game for him is damned impressive if you ask me. I don't believe that Fitzgerald could do that.  That being said, I'd have to know more. I will say that it may be worth mentioning that we seem to like PFF this year and Sauls being a PFF All-American may be notable. Now that being said, the Panthers may not be even considering Sauls.
    • Ive said it 1000x times on here.  Our 2025 season will be dictated by the first 4 games.  poo the bed there and lose all confidence and momentum, we win 5 games maybe.  Go 2-2, 3-1 we got a look at 7/8 wins
    • I basically made almost the exact predictions on a phone call with a buddy about 3 weeks ago. I really do expect Evero gone before the seasons end, Young to just not able to get over the hump enough and DC to head into next season on a VERY hot seat.
