JR is starting to look very smart when he decided to keep Rivera just one more year.

welp guess we're back to obscure WWII trivia

Q: What famous Japanese admiral and Pearl Harbor mastermind was intercepted by a squadron of P-38 fighters and shot down over Bougainville in the Solomon Islands in 1943 during a morale-boosting trip after following U.S. intelligence's capture of his itinerary?

Is it Admiral Tou'inch Wang?

^ fascinating, i did not know that.

Q2: In a solo dogfight with a Japanese Mitsubishi A6M "Zero" would you be better equipped with a Grumman Wildcat or Hellcat?

(random extra pie awarded for correct answer and accompanying commentary as it's a difficult answer)

Can I use the FM-2 Wildcat?

oooh, a tweener. i didn't specify F4F vs. F6F so i guess you get the wiggle room there. why would you take an FM-2 over the F6F though?

Its smaller & has better maneuverability at low speed. So...

Dive in on them guns ablazin, good chance I'm taking them out there since the Zeke was fragile as poo (albeit awesome). Should I miss, the Zeke will think I'm in the F4F, try to line up his shot & I can draw him in shrugging off a few shots if needed, get him to over shoot, & as Grandad used to sing "Rat-tat-tattattat, down in flames they go."

I was glancing over the list of all 32 teams at work today, one thing that hasnt been brought up yet and is a silver lining in my book is the fact that it appears as though not many other teams will be firing their HC after this season. Why does this matter? Its because there wont be much competition among a lot of teams in hiring a new HC which works to our advantage. Furthermore, the teams that do look as though will fire their HC this season arent big market teams that would be highly desireable for HC candidates. Here is a list of the teams that could possibly fire their HC after this season.

Im going to rate each team's chances of parting with their HC as strongly likely, somewhat likely and not likely on who I think gets fired after the season.

Pittsburgh Steelers- Mike Tomlin isnt going anywhere, he will get another year and be given the benefit of the doubt. Playoff and SB appearances buys this kind of leverage for a HC like this to stick around another year despite a abysmal season. Todd Haley's future as a OC for the Steelers on the other hand look bad and expect him to be the sacrificial lamb. Chances Mike Tomlin gets fired; Not Likely.

New York Giants- See Steelers above. Two Super Bowls in the last 5 years, multiple playoff appearances. Unless Coughlin retires hes not going anywhere. Chances Tom Coughlin gets fired; Not Likely.

Tennesse Titans- The future was looking bright for the Titans before. Locker went down with injury. Mike. Munchak was hired the same year as Rivera and much like Rivera last season, it took days for the Titans owner to decided Munchak would come back another year. I dont see the Titans come out of this season with a winning record and into the playoffs. Chances Munchak gets fired; Strongly likely.

Jacksonville Jaguars- Gus Bradley and the new GM are rebuilding the old fashion way and I imagine both Gus and Kleim have a gentleman's agreement that Gus wont go anywhere no matter what considering this is his first year as HC for a franchise in a deep rebuild, he wont go anywhere. Chances Gus Bradley gets fired; Not Likely.

Tampay Bay Buccaneers- Ahh the Sideshow circus that is the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Its sink or swim over in Tampa Bay and now Glennon and Greg Schiano are joined at the hip. The players hate Schiano and this team is going nowhere fast with Schiano at the helm. Chances Greg Schiano gets fired; Strongly likely.

Minnesota Vikings- Despite the Vikings having a disappointing season so far I highly dobut Frazier gets fired coming off a suprising 10-6 season with his star RB winning MVP all this despite Christian Ponder under center. Chances Leslie Frazier gets fired; Not likely.

As it stands now, the only HCs I see as almost a lock to get fired (Besides Ron Rivera ofcourse) is Mike Munchak and Greg Schiano. Two other HCs that could be let go are Mike Shanahan and Dennis Allen. I dont think Shanahan goes anywhere because of RGIII and coming off a 9-7 playoff season last season. Looking back, we all wanted Rivera fired last season. But considering how last season saw a record amount of HC openings, it seems like now JR waited a week to make his decision because he was testing the market.

JR knew with desireable, big market teams like San Diego, Philly and Chicago having HC openings last season that the Panthers would be at a competitve disadvantage and it definately appears JR will have more leverage and less competition after this season and can really entice a good HC candidate due to the fact that a lot less desireable teams than us will have HC openings this go around.

1. San Diego a big market team? L-O-L

2. I'm pretty sure JR said "hey your contract is up next year. either earn the job or you can walk."

the F6F outperforms both the F4F and the F2M though... the F2M and F6F have comparable durability (whereas the F4F is a freaking block of solid metal) but F6F can out-climb, out-turn, and outdive just about everything but a P-41. i'd take the F6F ten times out of ten
