Cam's Contract if the season ended today

Recommended Posts

You would trade the player that lost the QB battle for numerous high picks and / or a top upcoming player.

This is ridiculous. Do you know how long it takes to see how good a player is? Three years is the average. So, you're saying you would draft Winston. Let him and Cam play for three years. Then, at the end of those three years, trade for picks?

Again, thank god you do not have any control over an NFL team. Hell, I worry about your madden franchise.

If Winston is that good, then trading down would definitely be an option. The redskins just traded up to get bob.

These hypotheticals are stupid.

Missing the point.

Trade down is not an option. Only a fool would not take Winston.

Worry about what to do with him and Cam later.

I dont think you realize how good or perceived good Winston is.

More dynamic than Luck.

More durable / bigger than RG3.

More of a pocket passer than Cam. (his knock out of college anyway)

No I would trade him within 1 year.

You think a team would be willing to trade the farm on draft day but then not later on (within 1 yr) for the same player?

Your the one drinking, if you would pass Winston straight up for ANY 1 player in the draft.

Talk about drafting a need over talent. lol

No one would take one player over him. You would trade for the entire haul. You could get 8, 9, 10 players if you played your cards right.

No poo.

However, the question was hypothetical.

You can not trade for picks, you must select 1 player.

In which case you take Winston.

Lets see, I mocked Short to us in the 2nd and pimped White as a sleeper / diamond in the rough.

Yep, you should know what your getting into.

So, you read a lot of mocks of him coming to us and then said it yourself? Congrats! I'll call espn and let them know that they no longer need Todd or Mel.

Who else is available in you hypothetical? Is there also an elite CB or WR?

You can't do a hypothetical at this point because we don't know who else is available in that draft.

Would you rather slightly upgrade one position, or vastly upgrade another position. Vastly upgrading a more pressing need will make your team better than slightly upgrading another position.

All that is even dependent on one accepting the fact that Winston even would be an upgrade over Cam which I am not so sure he is.

This is exactly why it doesn't make sense to me. You can't just say, "Well, in a vacuum, you can only select Jameis Winston. You can't trade. You can pick other players, but they're all way worse than Winston and faceless, who do you select?" I understand the point of hypotheticals, but this is just tailoring a scenario to fit into your argument. It's pointless, to be honest.

If we were to have the #1 pick in the 2016 Draft, a lot will have gone wrong with the team. That will also be the year that Cam's option on his contract will be running out, and we would have to make a decision about whether or not to extend him. Do we extend him? If so, then I would trade that #1 pick to gain multiple picks in that year's draft, multiple high round picks in the following year's draft (including a 1st and 2nd round), and anything else I could get. If we did not extend Cam, then I would say yes, I'll draft Winston and move on.

Well, fug it hopefully we will be picking somewhere in the high twenties or 30s by the time Winston comes out.

I do like Winston a lot and I do think he will be #1 overall when he does.

We have a QB that is becoming special even as he is still developing so my focus would be on signing him to an extension ASAP

    • If you're looking for a pat on the back it sounds good in theory until you realize they also had the 2023 Panthers as the top draft class.
    • Going into the 2003 and 2015 seasons we were supposed to be the joke of the league each time. In 2003, John Fox was supposed to still be in rebuild mode. We had a guy named Peppers on the defensive line who was supposed to be pretty good. We had Rodney Peete as our starting QB and a line that was a lot of hope and not much experience. Our new running back was a guy the Redskins, errrr Commanders, had jettisoned for being too old. We had a good kicker and writers thought that was needed because there were going to be more field goals than touch downs. Heck, it looked like they were right up until just before halftime of that first game when we had to yank Rodney Peete and put in some Cajun duded whose name couldn't be pronounced. And Steve Smith? He wasn't Smitty yet. Moose Muhammad, well, he was close to being written off as a bust. You know how that turned out. And then in 2015, we had Cam Newton, who was electrifying to watch but hadn't really won anything yet. There was an offensive line in front of him that looked like it was made in a defunct Swiss cheese factory and our big hope on offense was the great Kelvin Benjamin. And then he got taken out for the year with a knee injury in training camp. Ted "Feet of Lightning, Hands of Stone" Ginn became our default go to guy beside our next best hope, yeah, Devin Funchess. Our defense was pretty good, a scrappy bunch with frikkin' awesome linebacker play and a cornerback who had done more than drank the Kool-Aid, but had snorted the powder. He played like a superhero and became sort of a bat-man during the season. By the Super Bowl he had completely lost his freaking mind, though, and managed to talk his way out of a contract with the team next year. No one was expecting us to win the NFCSouth that season, much less almost go undefeated and into the Super Bowl. So, 2026? Who knows? But our best seasons came when no one had a reason to believe in us, except us.
    • it's not so much this personal vendetta against the Carolina Panthers as it is more about Bryce Young never not once been in the same conversation with the top 15 or even top 20 Qbs in the NFL ..just saying
