With the 19th pick in the 2014 draft the Carolina Panthers select.... an Oregon Running Back?

The Carolina Panthers have become a playoff contender thanks to Cam Newton,Steve Smith and a defense that's been built up through the NFL draft. To seriously challenge in the NFC South, the offense needs to continue to improve.

One area where the offense is lacking would be at wide receiver opposite Smith. Brandon LaFell and Ted Ginn may have a play or two here and there that make you pause and take notice, but overall neither has risen to the level of being a true No. 2 option for Newton in the passing game. That's where a talent like De'Anthony Thomas can take this offense to a new level.

Thomas is similar in many ways to Percy Harvin. The Oregon Ducks move him around often, utilizing his speed at running back, as a receiver and as a return man. The Panthers would want to do the same, basically getting the ball to Thomas as early and often as possible.

Thomas may not be the most conventional wide receiver, but he's a true offensive weapon anytime he touches the ball.

I've seen 5 different mock drafts showing we take this guy, I will literally set fire to BOFA if this happens.

u do realize we fired hurney and fox right?

Yes, I just can't believe that 5+ people that are getting paid to write articles and make mock drafts think we would draft a RB.

It makes about as much sense as trading up to the #1 pick and drafting Ryan Leaf from retirement.

    • It's not sustainable,  although he deserve credit for the win also, as he made clutch plays as he does with every win we have.
    • As much as I would love to sit here and bash on Young.  I can't.   He is absolutely a part of this team winning.  He is the cool hand leading the offense along with the hammer, Rico.  He's making plays on 3rd and 4th downs, that are absolutely helping thus team win.  Is Bryce playing as well as we'd like? Nope. Although he had only 1 week off from a high ankle sprain.   No question he was 100% in the Greenbay game.  I'm not even sure where the team would find a clear upgrade over Byrce.  He is a leader.  In the 4th quarter, he has ice in his veins.  He is a part of why our team is enjoyable to watch again.  Without him, we wouldn't be winning.    Anyways.  Y'all enjoy yet another thread designed to tear down the man.
    • Great article on all the Lil Canes attending their debutantes ball. Walt with a great breakdown of all the rookies, as always, and I'm a huge fan of his team coverage, he is truly a treasure, but as a fan of mixed metaphors and superfluous language which some might ignorantly refer to as a "run-on sentence" I never really understood what that mean or where to put the comma after a quote in the middle of a sentence, but holy poo Walt, this is a gem, "While there's a long road left in front of them left to determine whether or not they'll have that same success on the blue line again, the beginning stretch of the journey has been thrown a wrench, and the story on defense has been the emergence of up-and-comers forced into becoming lineup regulars." , bravo, take a bow, sir!
