Lakers considering Pau Gasol for Tyson Chandler trade

Would be a good trade for both teams. The Knicks need more offense and if you put Pau in a more traditional offense where he can post up then he'll succeed. His days of 18/9 on 53-55% are over, but he can still put up 15/9 on 47-48% from the field. Chandler would really help the Lakers' defense and add that toughness in the middle that we are missing. Lakers probably need to add another PG, although Kobe is a top tier PG when he wants to be, and right now he is ok with setting up the guys and only shooting when he needs to. The only thing is if we give up Pau than I'm not sure that there is enough offense there with just Kobe and role players. I think it would benefit both teams, and ultimately I feel like the Lakers need to give up on the 2014 plan and move on with the 2015 plan to try to get a guy like K-Love.

Love/Westbrook should be their plan IMO. Get the UCLA crew back together, give Kobe a last shot at a ring.

It's not worth much (maybe not anyway), but Jalen Rose has somewhat hinted that Durant could follow Harden to Houston, and Love/Westbrook head to the Lakers.

It makes more sense if the Lakers will go after a guard like Shumpert. Taking on a deal to get Tyson Chandler makes no sense with Gasol coming off the books at the end of the year.

Have to compromise to get Shump. The Compromise is letting NYK get out of Chandler contract, and taking themselves out of position to sign Melo in FA. Lakers seem to be the biggest roadblock for the Knicks in keeping Melo.

Shumpert to Lakers make sense and Gasol to Knicks much heavily favor their offense. Chandler would def bring more defense to that Lakers team, but I dont like the lack of scorers in the paint for them. Other than Kobe, Gasol is pretty much the only legitimate scorer. A front court Kaman and Chandler would be pretty bad offensively. Let's not forget that Chandler cant ever stay healthy. If I'm the Lakers, I'd just go after Shumpert only.

They won't get Shumpert without giving something of value. Shumpert isn't great, but he's a hell of a lot better than anything L.A. had to trade...

From what I've heard is Shumpert is the main target, but will also consider trading for Chandler. Also thought the Knicks have put Shumpert on the block in the past.

    • I'm only in favor of this if they make it like cigarettes.  Shouldn't be plastered all over the presentation of the game.
    • Yes but this is under the assumption that most of the players are susceptible to this sort of coercing from those type of elements. I think those actual cases are rare. Plus the sportsbooks are more motivated than most to stamp it out because it loses them money. It's just a natural side effect of having gambling at all. IMO, better for it to be legal. Now, I do find it insanely hypocritical(but also typical) that all these sports leagues that once turned their noses up and were very high and mighty about sports gambling are so openly supporting it now that the megabucks are rolling in.
    • Well I should also say another caveat is positional value. You have to be careful violating that. For the scenarios you are describing, those are also things that free agency is for. Free agency should always set up the draft. Improve the roster and then go shopping for things to potentially take your roster up a notch.  Lastly, we are in scenario 2. Our roster is still not good and we have holes at most position groups. We are actually in the "BPA All Day" range.
