Corvey Irvin...

So did anyone watch that game, Irvin impressions?

Not much there that can't be improved with proper training. Seems a little stiff and unsure immediately at the snap but loosens up once the offese gets commited to a play. Can be overpowered but it's a fifty-fifty shot as he can also force his way out of a lot of situations. If things work his way and he's focused to the top of his game he can make some damn good plays.

In the end, he's at least very solid depth that could be molded into a decent starter.

After watching the game, Irvin looked pretty darn good to me. Him and the guys that subbed for him seemed to get most of the double teams for some reason, and it was the Georgia DE's (especially the one on the right side of their defense) that really got their asses kicked in that game. When Irvin did get to go one on one with the Alabama RG, he handled him just fine from what I saw. In fact, Irvin just missed getting 2 sacks in that game, which is pretty good since he only played about half the snaps, and it was only about his 4th game as a starter.

I read his bio on the official Georgia Bulldogs sight and it said that he had 24 QB hurries, which is pretty impressive if they substituted as much in every game as they did in the Alabama game.

Bottom line...I don't think there is much reason for all the hand wringing that's gone on over this pick. Irvin has some learning to do, but from everything I've read about the kid, he's been steadily improving since he got to Georgia and he was voted as the defensive captain by his teammates because of his work ethic.

BTW, where he was projected to be drafted by some "experts" is irrelevant to me. I'm sure there weren't many experts that thought Steve Smith deserved to be taken in the 3rd round either.
