First QB to go in the draft?

1- Bridgewater

2- Bortles

3- Hundley

4- Carr

5- Manziel

Manziel will probably go ahead of Hundley and Carr but I think they're more NFL caliber and guys you can build around.  Manziel for some reason screams a Locker-esque career.  I also keep seeing this Brett Smith name from Wyoming pop up but don't know anything about him.

Bridgewater by a long shot. The Texans won't even pay much attention to Manziel during the interview process. People make Manziel seem like he's the first QB ever who knew how to run with a football and that he's going to revolutionize the NFL. I will say Manziel's 40 time won't be much more than .04 than Bridgewater. Bridgewater was a dual threat QB in high school and as a freshman at louisville he asked his coach to play him WR. The reason Bridgewater is not running all over the place is that he's a filthy accurate passer and also he ended up with the right coaching staff that didn't wanna run him to the ground for their own benefit.

Depends on how they think.

If they think long-term success, they'll take Bridgewater.

If they think flash / ticket sales / hometown boy, they'll take Manziel.

I'd be shocked if they went that route, but stranger things have happened.

I think the Texans organization is one good QB away from recapturing the division throne so the ticket sale will probably come through winning. I agree with you, I doubt Obrien would go the ticket selling route.

Lot of people would tell you a healthy Schaub is a good QB.

Me?  I've never really been that big a Schaub fan.  Always found him a little overrated.

I was kind of shock that he failed this year, just when they got Hopkins to complement Andre Johnson. Anyway, like Kolb, there is a reason he was never high on anybody's radar from college. He made his money because he had some good performances as backup for the Falcons when Vick got injured. I believe that in this league for you to compete long term you gotta have that 1st round talent, especially at the QB position. Not that you can't find your diamond in the rough like a Russell Wilson but a lot of those late rounders tend to be just flash. Especially when they're playing with house money.

Wonder if he'd trade for Ryan Mallett.

There's talk McDaniels might go that route if he got the Browns job.

Trading with the mad scientist normally works out good for the mad scientist.  Mallett might be better however than anything coming out this year

A lot of backup guys win starting jobs off of one or two decent performances in relief.

Matt Flynn, Kevin Kolb, Doug Johnson, Scott Mitchell, A J Feeley...the list goes on.

Possible.  Probably depends a lot on whether he's grown up some from his college years when he was a bit of a jerk.

Mallett was a pretty decent passer, mind you, but he was also so slow footed that he made Dan Marino look like Randall Cunningham.

    • Completion percentage depends on the offense and type of QB.  So no I don't care about a raw comparison lol. If you don't know what I mean by that I don't know what to tell you. As to Baker, this is the second time you've ignored me and claimed I didn't say something when I did. I'm going to just stop r spending to that crap soon but on the possibility you are just missing these things in good faith - "Baker Mayfield is 11th in QBR, 14th in yards despite the TON of injuries that offense has had, 10th in QB rushing yards, 12th in TDs (and above the average in TD% lol), 25th in INTs (league average would be something like 16th). So yes, he's quite a bit ahead of the average in many categories." Rushing yards by a QB DO matter. You'd think Panthers fans would know that.  Some of Bryce's best plays have come when he uses his legs too, and some of that IS yards on the ground. And the reality is that Tampa has had crazy injury issues and if you look at Bakers career he is unquestionably more successful than Bryce and above average at that. This year his top 3 WRs have all missed considerable time and whose best player on offense hasn't played almost all year...
    • Look at the chart. if you are claiming his numbers prove he not  an NFL caliber QB, than neither is Bo Nix, Trevor Lawrence, Caleb Williams, Jayden Daniels, Michael Penix, CJ Stroud, Baker Mayfield and Mahommes. They are all below average and within 2 points of Youngs' numbers.
    • Could be worse. Captain Clempsun is sub 60% completion
