2014 Mock Draft: Carolina-Chuck's 2 Round Projections

I dont think we can invest in douple dipping at OT consecutively like what we did with Star and KK this past draft. WR is such a huge need that we'll have to address it this year. Unless we go after a Nicks or Maclin in FA, I cant see it happening.

I can def see where we go OT 1st or 2nd and another one in the 3rd:

(1) Lewan / Kouandjio / Richardson / Ogbuehi

(2) WR

(3) Hurst / Moses / Ju'Wuan James / Henderson

Would love that.

Oh sorry I meant we need a tackle with at least one of our first two picks

Much respect Chuck for that analysis.  Beckham has caught my eye as well recently and that SC highlight catch he had the other night was gnarly.  I think the combine is going to be a serious competition to vault stock and I will sit with popcorn this year.  I'm stil in the Allen/Benjamin camp at the end of the first, with Matthews and Beckham right behind them.  I think Moncrief and possibly Landry could be had with our 2nd, but I could also see Landry moving up into that group of Matthews and Beckham, Jr.

As much as I would love this, it'sa pipe dream. No way Taylor and Kelvin fall that far.

Lets remember that Star and Floyd were both supposed to be top 5 picks. They both fell down the draft. I know the issue with Star but still. Its too early to predict anything.

And I think we as Carolina fans are exaggerating on Benjamin a bit too much due to needing a WR badly. He is climbing up the draft board but lets also remember that he only has one very good year. Plus some will point to his season this year that he had a talented QB in Winston.

I'mjust trying to look at the situation realistically without optimism. I would love both of these picks but don't see Taylor dropping out of the top 20 and don't see Kelvin dropping out of the first round.

    • I don't think it was fear of the unknown because he tried to hide the extent of the injuries that made him drop. After the drop, the reports I heard were that teams knew what was wrong with his knee and it was something similar to another athlete from a few years ago (honestly don't remember if it was even a football player).  That it was basically one of those things where he should be fine for a while, there isn't a huge concern of immediate injury risk.   But what he has going on with his knee is something that is degenerative and there's little chance he'll be able to play more than 5 or so years on it before he won't be able to play anymore. So basically it was teams knowing if they draft him, he's probably going to be only a rookie contract player and even if he's great, you might not be able to get use out of him on a second contract.  Which in turn makes the drop make sense, but I'm kinda surprised some contending team didn't take him late in the 1st, hoping he'd put them over the top on a SB run but then not even have to worry about giving him a big contract in 4 years too.
    • Depends if they see the writing on the wall with their roster and contracts and decide to bite the bullet and begin a complete rebuild and roster overhaul.  I have no clue why some franchises (IE us) refuse to do this and keep half assing trying to win 8 games or so.  Do it correctly, take your lumps and build a contender.  We shall see what loomis decides.
    • Each team plays 17 games.  I do not see why they don't just have each team play one international game per year.  Neutral site game, 8 home, 8 away.
