How Long Will It Take for Charlotte Bobcats to Become a Legit Playoff Contender?

This is a br article but very well written and informed I love how it talks about that fans will not be taken by mediocrity and complacency, and how at best we are going to be an east appetizer for miami or indiana if we end up making the playoffs.

We need to get a high draft pick, hopefully we'll have 2 this year. im sorry i keep restating this but its the truth and needed.

Playoffs this season and will be in the same situation we were last time. The thing is we were really a Playoffs team then with Wallace, Captain Jax, Felton, and Chandler. I cant say the same this season. We'll hold ourselves back 3-5 years.

A high lottery pick next year + FA and we could potentially be a legitimate Playoffs contender next year. If not, 2015 for sure.

The Bobcats are in no way a playoff team this year, but sadly, there's only 3 teams in the East with a winning record.  Fortunately for Charlotte, the East has 3 divisions and the Atlantic sucks this year (1st place team is Toronto with a .500 record and the last place team is only 6 games behind).  So, every team in the Atlantic has a realistic chance to make the playoffs and should remain competitive longer.

Looking at the upcoming schedule, the Bobcats should be in lottery position by February.  I'm calling a 6 - 20 record (honestly 6 wins may be a bit optimistic) in Jan. & Feb.  Oh yeah, and the first two games in March are against the Heat and OKC, both away.  Don't see us making the playoffs this year.

The Bobcats will end up keeping their pick, acquiring Portland's and hopefully get Detroit's pick.  Recruiting a decent FA may prove more challenging than drafting a quality rookie but there is money available.  With an above-average draft and another FA, there's no reason why Charlotte cannot be a legitimate playoff contender starting next season.  Plus, there will be a noticeably increased home court advantage next year with the change to the Hornets.

I havent even begin looking at 2015 prospects but it is a good class of Centers led by Okafor and Myles Turner. Even the pathetic Desagna Diop's brother is in that class and projected to be pretty good.

It's making me really emo (lol) thinking of having a lottery pick in 2015. I was hoping that this year would be the last year we'd be in the lottery. Guess not. But, I'm still optimistic for this season. I really believe that the "L" will start to pile up soon enough. After the loss tonight, we just got pushed down to the 8th seed. I cant imagine Brooklyn and NYK not making the Playoffs this year. I dont believe we'll make the Playoffs anymore.

Right now, we have the 11th worst record in the league. A couple more losses and we'd be getting our pick back (Chicago Top10 protected). Maybe, we could package our 3 potential picks into the top 5-7.

I hope that we could potentially be in a position to take Joel Embiid. Even though we have Big Al, Embiid would compliment Al well. Move Al to PF and play Embiid at the 5.

Dont really wanna call Zeller a bust atm bc I'm trying to be a "good fan", but the more I think about it the more I believe we should have went with Nerlens Noel. Terrible move by Cho and MJ for knowing that we were going after Al Jefferson and still drafted Zeller.

Bobcats/Hornets need to trade Gerald Henderson.  God knows why they signed him an extension in the first place.  He is very awful.

Bobcats need a scoring shooting guard/small forward swing man.

I like Al and some of the pieces we have to work with.  Josh McRoberts is decent but needs to play with more confidence (looking to shoot more).  Kemba Walker has the swagger of an idea guard but he is just too short for this league to be of a good threat.  I am trying to see if he can measure up to Allen Iverson.

MKG (if he wasn't hurt) is not performing because he needs to play in an efficient system.  Right now the system is not very efficient.

I like the new signing of Chris Douglas Roberts.  He needs to start over Gerald Henderson.

Seriously get rid of GH and go after some big shot.

If possible at all, trade Kemba too although he is the second best player on the roster.

Find pieces to work with Big Al.  NBA is full of guards.  It shouldn't be hard to find some decent ones.  Should have attempted Eric Bledsoe in the off season.

I am all ears to other people's opinion.

    • We've never seen them outside of the structure of two very well ran organizations I'll give you that. And yes they are long in the tooth. I do think they are more than capable of getting a franchise turned around in short term capacity though. They are by no means a long term solution.
    • You're not making a good-faith argument by blaming literally everything on the quarterback when the defense gave him a fat 38 seconds to overcome its ineptitude, but it seems you're dead-set on blaming him for any problem the team encounters. In this case, it's not warranted. Sometimes it is. But he had no time to throw (pressured on 46% of all dropbacks, an insane amount) and that's simply not all his fault -- particularly when they rush 4 or less and are in the backfield in 1.5s or less. Should we have gotten more than 0 yards? Sure! But he hit a WR in the hands on fourth down and it was dropped. Not his fault. He missed one throw on second down but I attribute first down to a bad play call and third down to poor pass protection. I would've called some quick slants, personally, but it really seems you're saying: - playcalling: Bryce's fault - poor pass protection: Bryce's fault - defensive choking away a lead: Bryce's fault, not the defense - Horn dropping a pass: Bryce's fault It's a great way to garner support on here, because when it comes to Bryce, logic takes such a backseat to context that it's not even in the same vehicle. Plenty of games can be attributed to him. Can't take anyone seriously who solely blames him for that one.
    • I don't see how you can logically make that argument when the team beat two of the top teams in the entire league during the regular season.  Now imagine the additional games we would have won against absolute tip top competitors like SF and SEA had we had a professional QB.  You can throw any random stat at the problem you want, but the proof is in the pudding.  We all watched it live.  This roster would have produced 13 wins (wins against SF and SEA, two wins against NO, and would have swept the Bucs) and (almost certainly) a #1 seed with a remotely competent QB.  Those were not games where we needed an all star performance to win.  Those were games where a very, very modest stat line would have netted us an easy win. Nearly every measurable aspect of the team would have been significantly improved with a competent QB.
