Revisiting the Week 10 Matchup

Ok so I just re watched the game from week 10. This game was full of big plays that could have resulted differently on any given Sunday. All 9 of SF's points could have been prevented. All 9 were due to Carolina errors.

On SF first drive, Captain dropped a ball that hit him right in the hands. A few plays later SF kicked a 53 yard field. These 3 points could have easily been taken away had Captain caught a routine ball, however it is never a gimme that Captain catches the routine ones.

On SF's third drive, the Carolina D forced a three and out but then we had one of our famous special team meltdowns and turned the ball over on the punt. This led to a FG by the Niners.

Brooks hit Cam leading to an interception and setting up SF's fifth drive which lead to three points. Refs ruled which looked like a fumble by VD a incomplete pass, this could have easily been ruled a fumble and prevented 3 points.

The Carolina offense took some time to get settled. Aldon Smith barely played and will be a factor on Sunday, but the Panthers OLine had there good moments and bad moments. LaFell had 2 big catches on the TD drive just before the half, then Bowman had one slipped three his fingers and going to Olsen setting up the DWill TD on the next play.

Smitty dropped a wide open pass that hit him between the numbers on the SF 40 to start the second half. Another example of Carolina just trying to beat themselves on this day.

Cam looked great in the second half once the offense settled down. Made some big time throws. The Panthers were able to move the ball for the most part in the second half.

Another thing i noticed was the screen plays and quick passes out to Tolbert weren't working. The Niners LB's would read those out immediately. Really hope Shula recognizes this.

Our DLine played great this game as well.

This game never should have been this close. However it's typical Carolina to give there opponent every chance to stay in games and win them. The fumbles at the end of this game could have made for an awful result. Of course a healthy Crabtree, VD and Aldon Smith make a huge difference but if the Carolina O can come out like the way they did in the second half, that would make a huge difference. Im thinking since they've seen these guys alrighty alot of the early jitters might not be there.

But as long as Carolina doesn't try to beat themselves again Sunday, they should be ok.

Also dont forget Nate Chandler started that game and it was his first start at OL ever...and he played horrible that game and we lost some plays due to sacks and negative run plays due to his lack of experience...have to take advantage of aldon smith leaving the edges open

Im watching the game right now actually....ron rivera playoff defense will be no joke...and shula has been tapped on the shoulder this bye week so be sure to see more deep throws and cam runs on second down

I would expect to see the Niners WR's to run lots of short routes in hopes of Kap getting the ball out quick. Carolina's DL was pretty good.

Yeah can't rely on Cam's legs as much this game. Cam picked up one first down with his legs while falling down that game but other than that they shut him down. They took away Olsen for the most part as well.

I sound like a dam broken record but Ginn and Lafell need to step up.

That's true, I forgot that was his first game. There was one play where he completely whiffed on his block

Nice post. i''m guessing NFL Network will show a replay of this game sometime this week. Anyone know when?

Thanks.

Ah they may not since they have 4 games from this weekend that were all good. But they did show Indy and KC from earlier this year. They usually keep the same time slots for NFL replay each week. I think they are Tuesday night and Wednesday afternoon.

I just hope Riverboat is our playoff coach

I have always feared Ron would show back up as I believe the "real" coach always shows his head on the biggest stage. Fox for example playing for OT despite having Peyton and timeouts

In 1999, Rivera was named linebackers coach for the Philadelphia Eagles. During his tenure the Eagles advanced to the NFC Championship for three consecutive seasons...

2009 Chargers 13-3 Playoffs Kept the jets to 17 pts but lost due to poor offense Rivers threw 2 picks that game that sealed it

2006 Bears 13-3 had rex grossman as QB...i mean rex throwandpray grossman... WENT TO SUPER BOWL

He's been here before...I HAVE NO WORRIES but KEAP better have some

Watching the NFL Replay of this game now. After the Panthers forced a 49ers punt with 2:30 left in the game. They showed a sound clip of Mitchell going down the sideline saying "one more stop", "one more stop Luke".

I think it's important we bring Mitchell back. He's a big part of this D and a big reason why they're so confident.

    • While I'd love to add him, it just doesn't make sense for where we are at in our re-build right now. The only teams who should be interested are those who have a very legitimate shot at winning the SB this season, as any team who makes the trade is going to be mortgaging their future to make the move. Teams who make these kinds of trades and then give them the massive contract, in the hopes that it will expedite their path to contention, ALWAYS ends up backfiring because they have to give up the 1st round picks that are then needed to help build out the rest of the roster after eating up such a significant chunk of the cap on the new contract. There is no way the Cowboys trade him for anything less than 2 future 1st rounders (and probably more), plus we'll have to make him the highest paid non QB in league history.  Not to mention that it would then have made the Scourton and/or Princely picks a bit of a waste, as those 2nd and 3rd round picks would have been better off used on a ILB or DB
    • Like his approach to pre season that's ro get them out there and play together for a few plays and right about the night before and morning before.  Maybe we can come out the gate on fire I can smell the smoke from here!!   Go Panthers
    • Only 26 years old, fills the biggest hole on our roster. Top 3 at his respective position, yeah fug it how often does a future HOF player become available in their prime?
