The entire fiasco is a Gene Simmons production. Give him five minutes and the slightest idea and he'll find a way to market and make money off it. Ace and Criss were done with the whole make-up thing and the shtick that was KISS. They just wanted to grow up and move on while Simmons continues to live in the past.

 

Honestly, the last time I saw them I was embarrassed.

 

that interview henry rollins did with gene simmons on that talk show he had on IFC a few years ago was really something to behold.  it addresses a lot of the things you mentioned and then some.
