Ron Jaworski: "I wouldn't take Manziel in the first three rounds"

Mr. Scot

Recommended Posts

He's been projected as a top pick ever since he won the Heisman Trophy.

Do you even know what goes on in the real world?  (the evidence says you have no clue)

No, liar. Both Kiper and McShay had him in the 2nd round. They both were on First Take that year to explain themselves to Bayless. Bayless was the first hype machine(Yes, I do watch that show). He even wrote a long ass article about how Manziel is as fast as Vick and crap . The whole college season was centered around Bridgewater vs Mariota. Manziel was completely off the radar as far as being a top pick. The minute Mariota decided to stay in school they tried to find his replacement and Manziel was their best guy.

This was in september of 2013, before the college football season got on the way:

The only thing I'd "eat crow" on is that you may actually be even dumber than I thought you were.

Here's your statement...

He was never projected as a 1st rounder even after his final college game.

And as proof you post a video of Mel Kiper saying he's a second rounder.  I'm guessing you didn't actually watch the video or listen to what Kiper said, because at 55 seconds into the clip Kiper says he had Manziel in his top 25 on May 8th, but dropped him because of off field incidents that happened over the summer.

May 8th would be well before Manziel's final college game.  Add in that Skip Bayless is arguing in the same clip that he is a first round pick, which contradicts your statement.  Stephen A Smith argues it too.  Kiper is the only one saying he's a second rounder here.  That same Mel Kiper you're citing said, as of February 6th, even before the Combine, that Manziel is the concensus best quarterback in the draft (link)

Here are a couple of other links that contradict you.

MMQB (September 17, 2013) This is the draft board on Peter King's Monday Morning QB from five months back. Manziel is in the top ten.

Shutdown Corner (January 1, 2014) This is an article written right after Manziel's final game.  In it Eric Edholm says Manziel could land in the top ten.

NFL.com (September 18, 2013) Charles Goodbread discusses Manziel with four NFL scouts.  Three say he's a first rounder.  One says he's a top ten pick.

And to top it all off, the second video you posted where McShay supposedly defends having Manziel in the second round never mentions Manziel, at all.  It does talk about Jameis Winston, whom Kiper declares would be consider far and away the best QB on the board if he were draft eligible.

Kiper says he'd be superior "just like Andrew Luck was"

You haven't got a clue, kid.

Teams picking in the bottom of the draft don't normally have needs for QBs. So him being a pick after 25 is nonsense and just people being nice.

That's my point Skip and Bayless were the first ones hyping Manziel.

I'm not saying you can't find articles that put Manziel in the 1st round on the web. But throughout the season no one was talking about Manziel as a top pick. When I mentioned his last college game I forgot about his bowl game so I didn't include it. I meant his 12 game season that ended in december. Majority of the talk throughout the college season was centered around Bridgewater and Mariota. That's what the second video is about. Will you find fanatical articles on the web that talk about Manziel in the 1st round? absolutely. Tank for Teddy was rampant. In fact there was a video viral about a Jag fan who made a song about losing out on the Bridgwater sweepstake.

In fact, I was listening to a TV broadcast late in december and one of the announcer mentioned how other NFL players were laughing at the prospect of Manziel in their division. Manziel will NOT get drafted in the 1st round. You hear it here first.

I'm sure you were

Enjoy your fantasy world, kid.  The rest of us plan to talk about the real world.

Fact still remain Manziel wasn't a 1st round projection late in the season. Especially when he was losing those games against LSU and Missouri. In fact there was an uproar on ESPN radio(98.7) where they ridiculed Kiper's mock. Don't get it twisted cause you found an article on the web. Manziel will NOT be selected in the 1st round.

I'll make sure to pull this thread back up after the draft

    • I wouldn’t be surprised if the Pats win it all or at least get there. Maye is awesome.
    • Young quarterbacks Drake Maye, Bo Nix, and Bryce Young have led their teams to undefeated records since October.   Drake Maye has guided the New England Patriots to a 5-0 record in that period, with 2,285 passing yards and 17 touchdowns in nine games. Bo Nix has directed the Denver Broncos to a 5-0 stretch, throwing for 1,976 yards and 17 touchdowns, contributing to a 7-2 overall start. Bryce Young, in his second season, has led the Carolina Panthers to a 4-0 run since October, accumulating 1,390 yards and 11 touchdowns amid a 4-4 record.   Undefeated QBs since start of October (min. 4 starts)   Drake Maye 5-0 Bo Nix 5-0 Bryce Young 4-0   Bryce Young when asked about his mindset during game winning drives: "You don’t rise to the occasion you fall back to the level of your training."
    • 1. Cowboys-No explanation needed. 2. Rest of NFC South equally. If I had to pick I would say Falcons.    3. Eagles- Both of the games I have attended there the fans were so horrible. The fan base is so ridiculously misbehaved, I’ve never seen such immaturity. 4- Lions- I have cousins in Michigan that grew up Lions fans and they are some of the most obnoxious people I have ever met, as are all of their Lions buddies. The NFL has been lucky that Detroit has been in the cellar for its eternity.    5. Tie between Bears and Vikings. Both act like Steelers, Cowboys, Niners fans do with nostalgia and legendary seasons but neither have ever really had them. They act like they each won 5 super bowls in previous decades but never accomplished poo outside of Chicago in 85.
