From scouts to GMs to the media, this is by far the deepest draft of the last decade in terms of WR, OT, and CB.  We have two great eyes for NFL potential in DG and Riverboatin Ron.  I believe we will land at least 3 starting caliber players in the draft, 1-2 could end up being great players and we will get some contributors along the way.

 

What is strong about the Panthers?  A dynamic quarterback with a ceiling higher than the sky. He is still here.  A pair of runningbacks who can feed off each other.  They are still here.  The BEST defensive line in football.  Thats still here.  A top 2 corps of linebackers, they are still here.

 

What is weak about the Panthers?  The secondary.  That remains unchanged whether or not we bring back Cap and Mitchell.  The tackle position (and quality depth along the oline), that remains unchanged whether or not we bring back Gross and/or Bell.  The wide receiver position, whether or not we bring back Smith, LaFell or Ginn, still remains unchanged.

 

We are the exact same team as last year.  We'll get a couple great players at a few of these positions to forget some our woes in the draft, and the rest will be filled in with "prove it" contracts.

 

Will we go 12-4 again?  Probably not, thats a hard season to improve on.  Will we be a winning team with a shot at the playoff however.

 

All of our strengths remain intact, not only are they strengths but they can compete every year for being some of the strongest units in the NFL.

 

We don't need great cornerbacks, just ones who can make a few plays and cover up front until our pass rush gets to them.  We don't need great receivers, we just need a few who make it difficult to dictate bracket/double coverage.  We don't need great OTs, just a pair that will give Cam 1-2 seconds in the pocket.

We missed out on very very talented Safeties. TJ Ward would have been explosive here.

 

Im hoping DG finds some people... but Im actually pretty worried about this year.. the other teams in our division are flying high over us so far with team management.

WR/RS Ted Ginn Jr, had 21 receptions combined in 2011 and 2012

WR Domenik Hixon, had 43 receptions combined in 2011 and 2012

OL Travelle Wharton, 30+ years old and coming off a torn ACL

DT Colin Cole, 30+ years old and didn't play in NFL in 2012

LB Chase Blackburn, who had just been cut by a team who is notoriously thin at LB position

CB Drayton Florence, who couldn't hang onto the Lions who are notoriously thin at CB position (<--- first FA we signed, on day three)

S Quintin Mikell, 30+ year old safety

S Mike Mitchell, who was never a starter with the Oakland Raiders of all teams

Also managed to re-sign Dwan Edwards and Captain Munnerlyn who were -->||<-- this close to signing with other teams if you remember.

Then picked up Melvin White (starting CB), Robert Lester (part-time starter at S), and Wes Horton (solid rotational DE) as undrafted free agents.

But not before hitting the draft out of the park with a future starting LB and the anchors of our interior DL for the next decade.

Our staff is good at evaluating talent and even better at evaluating talent that fits our scheme.

12-4 with a stranglehold of cap hell. It isn't magic it is just smart decisions. We will have them again this off season.

Almost every one of those guys were good, cap efficient signings who contributed to a 12 and 4 team...

OG Geoff Hangartner, was making too much, brought him back halfway through the season anyway

LB James Anderson, saved us money, not as good as Davis/Beason/Kuechly

CB Chris Gamble, saved us a poo ton of money

CB DJ Moore, wasn't doing too hot with us

S Haruki Nakamura, horrible terrible garbage player

the moves i've seen the Saints making remind me of this crackhead i used to know... Bucs are doing good, i just hope the Ravens get Smitty before TB does. Falcons? they've made a couple good moves but my gut tells me their time in the light is over. the next 5 years will be owned by Carolina and Tampa Bay
