Bryce Young is a problem — what would you do if you were Dan Morgan?
SCO96 replied to OldhamA's topic in Carolina Panthers
I'm surprised so many of you believe that Bryce has trade value. I don't think that many teams in the NFL are looking at him and saying he'd fill a major void in our roster. He's not going to start on another team in the league. I don't even think too that many teams would want him for a backup. If the Panthers are wise they'll refuse to pick up his 5th year option at the end of the season. So, 2026 should be his last season with the team. Why would a team pick up the salary of a subpar QB in 2026, when they can get him at a much more reasonable deal in 2027 (probably as a backup and not a starter of course)? -

We already have a bad vet on the team. They will let Young crash and burn one more game before he's benched again and will ride Andy for as long as they can until the season is over. If Andy goes down then I'm not sure what they do. -

This pic would be better if it showed XL dropping the torch as they hand it to him like he does half the passes thrown his way -
What to do: Start scouting the QBs hard in the draft - if you don't like any of them, don't reach for a QB, trade down to let another team reach for a QB and rebuild the defense. If there is a QB you like, take him (we should have a top 5, maybe top 3 pick at the end of the year). If we don't draft a QB, let Bryce tank again the following year for another top 5 pick and repeat above before letting Bryce walk (if we can get a 5th rounder or better, trade him I guess). We are so many pieces away from a Superbowl team right now - what I don't want to see is us desperate for a QB and draft another awful QB high in the draft.

Unfortunately, and given the backup situation, there is no choice but to play him either to the trade deadline or all year i do not think Dalton could last a season there aren’t QBs, serviceable QBs, sitting around waiting for a call that know the offense the time to do something was at season’s end if they felt he was fool’s gold that said 1. I’d start him and try to salvage something he can do to get to the trade deadline 2.ie Get him to perform as best possible and trade him at the deadline. San Fran may need a backup It is better for him and better for the franchise 3. Accept that Dalton starts for at least 4 games 4 look at practice squads, free agency everywhere and bring in a younger player and bring him up to speed while Dalton plays Run the ball short passes 5. Roll around in the poo they created until season’s end 6. Draft a qb in 2026 sad thing, even if he performs better, his floor is his ceiling

At least we didn't trade away multiple 1st and 2nd round picks for our defense to suck like we did for Bryce to suck... Bryce is the reason we have been awful since week 1 of 2023 and will probably be awful for at least another 2 seasons after he is gone. And not sure why people keep saying BC plays better than Icky... Sure, BC is probably a slightly better pass protector than Icky, but people fail to realize Icky is one of the best run-blocking tackles in the league. Want to know why Chuba ran for so many yards last year? A big reason is because of Icky. Want to know why Chuba didn't do much running the ball last week? A big reason is because of Icky (and Bryce being so bad Jacksonville wasn't worried about the pass)...

You have to find a way to minimize his cap hit when you know he is not the long term option. Even if his level of play picks up, there will be a day when a very large grown ass man hurts him very badly. How well would he be able to come back from a major injury? Roll with him this season (for now) and trade him in the offseason. I’d rather take a 7th rounder than the potential cap hit from releasing him. Servicable vets are let go every season. Pick one up and draft someone who at least has measurables for the position. Don’t expect anything success wise until the 2027 season.

A bad vet would still help the other players and would be a hell of an improvement in quality. Not ideal but an improvement for everyone -

Stuck with him. Lousy season coming. Again. -
Hmmm.... why could we be mad?? Maybe because we drafted Bryce #1 in 2023 and he still sucks + have tried to draft and sign every high value free agent on offense to help Bryce out. Want to know why our defense sucks... We spent a crap ton of cap space on Hunt & Lewis because Bryce can't see over the oline while drafting mostly offensive players in the draft the past 2 years. I think most of our fan base would struggle to name a player on our defense besides DB and Horn. And the sad thing is... Our defense somehow outperformed our offense week 1, despite having little talent and a ton of new parts. I will give you 1 thing though... We should be less mad at Bryce and more mad at Tepper/the front office that thought Bryce was worthy of the #1 pick.

If I were Dan, I would give him a few more games then if performance didn’t improve, he would be benched. I would trade him before the deadline to prevent pivot back to him and start Dalton. When/if Dalton ran out of gas I would start a young guy and see what that does. I would want to make the storyline all season that we will be in the QB market and progress was inhibited by the previous GM’s pick that we tried to make successful but it was not possible.

Do not pick up the 5th year option which means 2026 would be his last season with the team unless he suddenly begins to ball out for the next two seasons (highly unlikely). He'd be free to walk after 2026 unless we decided to TAG him for 2027 (again, highly unlikely). Bryce isn't the type of player who could leave this team and leave you with the feeling "we are going to regret letting a player of his caliber go". Draft a QB within the within the 1st two rounds of the 2026 draft no matter what happens from here out. -

I bet we could of gotten a 3rd or even a 2nd then. Now it will be almost nothing and he'll probably have to be cut. -

I think you play Young as long as you can, he will get us a top pick. Players and fans will be pissed off but Morgan really put us in a bad place and there’s not a lot of options. Absolutely trade Young after the season. Morgan should be let go too for creating this clusterfug. - Today

Why is everyone focused on BY while the real problem is ignored
Shotgun replied to cranky's topic in Carolina Panthers
The O averaged 10 points per game last year and that includes “good” Bryce. The D is awful but when the O is this bad nothing else matters. The best D in the league gave up 17 per game so even if we had a great defense, we just can’t score enough. Sad considering how much we’ve put into the offense.
