  2. not even if that team in New Orleans disbands before the first game. Saw one 2026 mock that had them drafting first next year.
  3. Right, so basically what I said in my first post about this last night. Tepper needs to use that big wallet of his in one of the few ways it can be used in the NFL given the cap. Give Scourton a bigger signing bonus but not a fully guaranteed deal. Everyone wins in that scenario as if Scourton is smart and hires good money people, he'll take that bigger signing bonus and use it to make more money in the end over the next 4 years than if he just had his fully guaranteed deal and a smaller signing bonus.
  4. It is all confusing and layered. SB is the cash you get very soon within weeks or in simple terms, its what you get to sign the paper work. Players and agents can agree on contract but what to "wait" to sign......teams don't like that cause you can "Carlos Boozer" yourself. In order to get that ink dry, while keeping the contract the same, portion it as a bonus to "sign" and get the funds with ________ . * But Ive seen worded contracts that split the SB or a 20% to a later date. The beans counters can fill in the details about why certain dates are better and save the team money.. Theres tricks to the trade and accounting is full of them. Ugh another big layer, is SB can be used to manipulate cap and players. Ill try to give a example that makes enough sense. Believe it or not having a owner like Tepper is a cheat code for this. He has cash in hand, where as Mark Davis had problem making pay roll and had to move the team to Vegas....... Tepper can give you 100,000,000 SB right now and the team can spread out the cap hit. Another owner doesn't have or want to give the player 100,000,000 in cash, but offered the same guaranteed contract in roster bonuses fully guaranteed over the next few years........ Which one do you want??? Everyone wants the money now, not before another inflation waves hits in 2 years. So it does 'pay" to have a owner like tepper that's able to have real cash on hand, while it also works GREAT for cap help. Heres a good video, if you can stand coked up pat and mask look-a-like AJ
  5. I don't know. CMC is like others and may have lip serviced that line of " I had no plan or wanted to leave Carolina" I think he even said he bought a house too and wanted this to be home. Here's what I heard- In a way Panthers org gave him a test and he didn't "fight" back. They approached CMC and told him they wanted to put him on IR since the "season" was over or out of playoff reach. CMC didn't fight it one lick and agreed. They secretly wanted him to kept playing or want to, but there was no kickback. I honestly don't know if its real or not, 5th hand information type deal doing on. Yes he had bruises and pains, but was able to play...... but went along with Panthers staff. Odd to be playing games with star players, but whatever.... Plus the staff doctors found out about his tendinitis and there was nothing to fix it. Even with him missing time, it was the best move to trade him before he got inflamed constantly. Lastly, its mostly time a combo of stuff, Fitterererere did not sign him to be the highest paid RB. That was classic Marty "give me a" herniay doing. GMs have different values on roster spots and rumor was Fitterererer was one that didn't want to pay RBs. For all his faults, he's right about that......
  6. I think google is confusing signing bonus with guaranteed money. If you get a guarantee of say $10 million, it doesn’t matter if the signing bonus is $5 or $8 million, it’s the $10 million number that affects the cap, as the signing bonus is always just a portion of the guaranteed money anyways. And again, I’ll admit I’m not 100% sure about it, but I’m pretty sure it is the case.

  8. Only thing I heard was Plummer improved since last year and is liked by offense staff. *But not enough for them to give a 2 year deal to Dalton. He's probably a lock for PS, I mean that's not a bad NFL job by any means.
  9. https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/player/_/id/97858/mike-green *no number on the guaranteed....I'm sooo sick of typing that word.... I just read a couple of pieces stating Collins deal is for 88% or 90%, so sportac maybe wrong with their numbers. Maybe rushed....... If its 90% that's a 10-11% increase within one year, that is a massive change if its the real number.
  10. Last years 43rd pick- max Melton got 7mill out of 8.8mill guaranteed. Rough number that's 79% of the contract guaranteed, Alfred Collins got 90%......but I just looked at the numbers its only 8.3 out of 10.3. Its more like 80% is guaranteed, which is nearly the same as last years Melton's contract. It's normal from past years, glad this mess is nearly over. Honestly I'm shocked 49er got Collins to sign, others 2nd rounders have signed too. I mean for panther fan reason I hope Tyler stands firm and the goes into the season unsigned....... But this super helps Panthers with Nic at 51. Broncos signed havey at 60 2day as well, others have signed too. Mike green just signed too.
  11. 1.5 hour from Myrtle beach and Coastal Carolina. Great football and elite college baseball
  12. Yea the bonuses are typically the guaranteed portion of the contract and for cap accounting purposes are spread over the life of the deal. I think everything else is basically a game check that has to be earned by being on the roster etc.
  13. Ask yourself this How many players but up big numbers in contract years vs those guaranteed years.
  14. I'm not cap expert, but I asked Google if a larger signing bonus affect an NFL cap, and here is the answer: Yes, a larger signing bonus affects the NFL cap, but its impact is spread out. While the player receives the full bonus upfront, the team prorates it evenly over the life of the contract, up to a maximum of five years, for salary cap accounting purposes. This helps teams manage their cap space in the present by pushing some of the cap hit into future years. I said "larger," but any size bonus can be applied. A player gets their money up front indeed, but the team still has to pay for it over time.
  15. If they enforce it as laxly as they do the C&R and Aggressive driving laws then nothing will change.
  16. Yeah they are and I say that with a dear family friend thats a vet We recently went through a patch with a vet oncologist. Talk about greedy... They regularly leveraged the soft pressure of "Well I cant tell you what to do but I wouldnt spare any expense if it was my dog" when talking about a $10k radiation treatment for our beagle.
  17. Yeah many NBA players are streaky now. We've had plenty of those here. For Kon it's too early to say but based on what I've seen and his interviews I think if he wants to be really good or great and to get to the highest level he will. Of course that's the story of many of our players over the years. The talent is there. The desire to be great wasn't. We'll see if these new rookie additions have that in them. Hopefully. But it is the Hornets after all. The skepticism is valid. As far as Gordon Hayward. I can say without a doubt that he never wanted to be good or great. He was one of the many newer generations of players that have the prerequisite talent and want the money and allure of being an athlete but do not care one way or another if they win or lose.
  18. Not if just giving a bigger signing bonus but the same guaranteed number, as that’s still part of the guaranteed money that they can space out for future cap hits. Guaranteeing more money is what affects the cap space. The amount of a signing bonus is only about how big of a check the owner has to cut once it’s signed (at least I’m 99% sure that’s the case)
  19. There's a spectrum like in all things. But honestly by and large vets aren't making the type of money most people assume they are. Most of them have a poo ton of student loans and running a clinic isn't cheap with the rent, utilities, staffing, etc.
  20. My reaction when I see opposing fans chalk up Carolina as a free win for them in the upcoming season
  21. Cap accounting and actual cash paid are not the same thing. The league could figure it out if they wanted to.
  22. That's a much fairer point worth exploring as opposed to seemingly blaming him for producing more than what a team would usually want from a 34yr old WR. It also allows us to look at who was available then as well: The same season AT was brought in the team experimented with DJ Chark as the X. Would they have been better forgoing both players and signing Nuk for $13M/2yrs? Maybe... but I don't think that exactly changes anything about the final results at the end of the season. In fact, looking at who was signed (and for how much) makes the AT deal look even better in hindsight. $8.3M avg for a dependable, veteran slot... especially when also looking at this most recent free agency: Yea, the previous front offices whiffed horribly on building the WR room. Marty Hurney and Scott Fitterer did horrible jobs there. However, this is a different GM, HC, OC, etc. The HC + OC are WR coaches. If there's a time for the team to go young and develop, it's now imo.
  23. Wonder if this gets any movement on Shough's deal like @Basbear mentioned earlier.
