I was just wondering about this yesterday because by my count (including unsigned draft picks + UDFAs) we were at 95 players.

PFF made it up just to make Bryce look better. Crazy right? Also I can’t believe you said he played “better.” Careful and you might let a compliment slip…. (kidding)

re: PFF having Bryce Young as the best deep passer in week 12 Link to original article Excerpt from the article: PFF's passing-by-depth report for week 12 NFL Pro's Film Room Play 1 - Completion to XL running a deep crosser despite multiple penalties by KC on the play Film Room Playlist NFL Pro.mp4 Play 2 - Completion to JT with the pass rush closing in Film Room Playlist NFL Pro-01.mp4 Play 3 - Hits David Moore in the hands while taking a shot from new Panthers' DL Ter'shawn Wharton for what would've been a TD Film Room Playlist NFL Pro-02.mp4 Play 4 - This is the first play that folks could attempt to pin on Bryce if not for one detail... this was 3rd & 10 with 9sec left in Q2 (as seen in the screenshot showing the list of plays). Bryce had to air mail it out of the back of the end zone so that there was still time to attempt a field goal before halftime. Film Room Playlist NFL Pro-03.mp4 Play 5 - Bryce places this ball where only David Moore can get it (spoiler: Moore does not get it). I've included the other angle as I was confident that some would try to hyperfocus on this play as why PFF was wrong in their evaluation. It's worth noting though that this wasn't a drop Film Room Playlist NFL Pro-04.mp4 Film Room Playlist NFL Pro-05.mp4 Play 6 - Sideline shot to XL but he drops it. Again, both angles included to avoid bad faith misrepresentation. Film Room Playlist NFL Pro-06.mp4 Film Room Playlist NFL Pro-07.mp4

Never even heard of a "big time throw" stat till bryce started playing better last year.

Not at all just trying to understand their data

Panthers start making cuts to roster

You serious Clark? Stacked? We have a second year 4th rounder who showed some flashes as a rookie. A #2 who is primarily a blocker who has under 800 career receiving yards through four seasons, and now we've added a 5th round rookie to the mix. I mean, there's potential there. There's reason for cautious optimism. But stacked? Definitely far from stacked. I mean, let's be honest... how many starting TEs across the league wouldn't immediately be penciled in as the starter on this roster? -
So where are you at here? PFF is fabricating stats to make Bryce look better??
-
don't know if he's going to beat out tremble or sanders. won't need to. we can cycle them in and out on the regular. all three are going to be getting a lot of snaps.
-
i had high hopes for Jordan Matthews. oh well. we're good. Granger...interesting idea. doubt it would have worked. no real reason to give it a try either. TE room is stacked, imo.

Panthers start making cuts to roster

The #Panthers are releasing TE Jordan Matthews, per league sources. He joins TE Colin Granger (injury related) as part of the post-draft cuts, as @josephperson first reported. Matthews story is still pretty incredible considering the trajectory of his career: charlotteobserver.com/sports/nfl/car… https://x.com/mike_e_kaye/status/1920495196023738783?s=46&t=xeIgh_-Vr2aKxBkBJdfnKA -

Bryces ypa was roughly 6.5 ish, which would be bottom 3rd of the nfl. Again averaging 200 yards 60% so something most certainly isnt adding up with Pff stats
-
If progress is being acknowledged then there must be data that supports said progress. However, when those stats are cited, they're dismissed as "cherry picked" or "too subjective." That contradiction is doing a loooot of heavy lifting. Nobody is claiming that Bryce is a top-five QB in the NFL. The argument is that post-benching, he showed real growth and some of that performance was in the top-10 range of various measures. Instead of engaging with that nuance, there's shifting of the goalposts and selective skepticism. The tape is being rejected. The stats are being rejected. Even when the methodology is explained, it's still rejected unless it paints BY9 in a negative light. Nobody seemed bothered by the Turnover-Worthy Play % stat, yet Big-Time Throw % is sending folks into a spiral. Funny how the only "arbitrary" stat under fire is the one suggesting Bryce might actually be improving.
-
I also like to look at QBs listed in that statistical category. For example Josh Allen being at the top of "Big Time Throws" would help give some validity to it IMO.
-
Except PFF stats always have subjectivity as one part of the equation. The whole point of moneyball was it was 100% objective.
-
Could be, but that would seem weird for big time "throw." I'd think that would fall under some sort of under pressure rating. Turning a sack into a incompletion could get you half a point for pressure rating for example. There are definitely some gray areas. I wonder if anyone on here has premium and if it touches on that.

XL makes a list of sophomore breakout candidates
DeAngelo Beason replied to Captain Morgan's topic in Carolina Panthers
The drops were tough, but my main takeaway from last season was just how he was getting very open, very consistently. I really think rookie jitters got the best of him on the drops. I believe he's going to show out. - Today

Horn and Hunter have that ‘it’ feel to me. Either Skyrizzi or Rimvoq. 100%. -
the "positive play" could be referencing not taking a sack.
-
It is shocking to me how folks can't find a simple definition but think that they can define what is acceptable:
-
its vaguely worded at best, maybe if someone had premium it would help
