I'd offer him a decent salary on a 3 year deal that's front loaded, or a 1 year deal that's higher $$ wise because he's likely more important to us than anyone else this coming year. Doesn't keep us from drafting an OT either way IMO, and we cover our asses in FA and see where the draft/Ickey's rehab lands.
-
Yep. BUT, even if Canales does become stagnant, I'd argue he did his job...of turning this back into a decent job instead of one only a WR coach would take. Obviously the owner and front office may play more of a role in that aspect, but we're back to showing potential coaches we're not a total clown show.

It will this year and maybe next year. Icky's injury may force the Panthers to do something that fixes the obscenely lopsided cap allocation to the OL: use a premium draft pick (rounds 1-3) on an OT this year and next year. And it has serendipitously prevented the team from adding yet another obscene contract to the OL cap allocation. I really hope Icky is able to successfully rehab and play again for the team, but it may be as a G and not an OT.

Hard to say. People keep talking about how Tepper has a trigger finger, but it isn't a Tepper thing. Look at how many HCs currently have lasted 3+ years. It ain't a whole lot. It is very difficult to make it to a 4th year with 3 straight losing records. If that were to happen again, I could see him being let go. But I don't think he's necessarily on the "hot seat", as in I don't see any way he's fired midseason, and those are the types of HCs I would consider on the hot seat.

I definitely wouldn’t overpay. He’s an okay fill in, in my opinion he looked better at RT when filling in than LT but if he is willing to come back at a fair deal you absolutely have to. I wouldn’t count on him anything other than depth, he has proven throughout his career he can’t be depended on to be a full time starter. The plus is that he already knows our system.
-
Dave Canales has been HC for his current team longer than half of the league. So, when you look at it that way, it is stable situation.
-
Honestly, he's worth keeping and he's a known quantity, possibly one on the upswing. And isn't he capable of swinging to either tackle position? Given that, I'd make him a good but moderate offer. We may need him at either spot as a starter during the season, and probably at LT for the start. That's not going to be easier to fill than making use of the guy already on our roster who knows and has played alongside the other linemen. And his performance in games here was passable or better. Do we still draft someone for Tackle? Oh yeah. Always be building the line.

We have to start winning, no excuses. I wouldn't slot us in at 11-6, but that would borderline be amazing considering our record in conjunction with the inconsistency, blowout losses and the way that we played the last month of the season. There was way too much Jekyll and Hyde last season to make me believe that the supposed "stability" isn't built on anything but sand. I'll be extremely happy to be wrong.

Team could improve slightly yet the record could decline. I want to think we’ll be better, but my optimism was never high and it is dulled by Icky’s loss. I think if we properly address LOT, it takes away an important potential upgrade elsewhere. Playing together as one can still improve, individuals can still improve, but some will also decline. Maybe I should ask those who expect a three game W-L improvement: why? What will be the cause for that?
-
And we have a tough schedule, so I'm not exactly holding my breath.
-
Well, I wouldn't expect Luke Kuechly to be negative. I'll begin to buy the positivity when I see the results of free agency and the draft, but I won't actually buy in until I see steady improvement from a win-loss perspective during the 2026 season. Bryce Young and coaching on both sides of the ball will play a huge part in regards to that bottom line.
-
The sheer fact that for 1.5 out of 2 seasons he’s been head coach the team hasn’t been an outright embarrassment is an improvement over the previous 2 head coaches David Tepper picked
-
I honestly might be willing to overpay Yosh a little to keep him. Versatility to play LT or RT (even though he is a much better RT in my opinion) while also having great durability, as he has either missed very few or zero games due to injury in his career. That is the type of depth that is very underrated

Kuechly on the state of the Panthers

I mean... I'm about as distrusting of Canales as you will find, but he has at least had the team improve record wise each season. I think if he gets rid of the rah rah rah mentality and gets an OC that he will let call plays, I'll be more of a fan -
You lost all credibility being a blowhard.

Mike Kaye: LB Devin Lloyd could be a realistic possibility

Because it doesnt make sense tagging middle linebackers when the formula takes in to account the salaries of OLBs -

Logan Jones at 100+ is steal of the draft. super athletic and super feisty. great C. wanted foster last time, but jones imo is right there with him,. maybe a bit better depending on scheme.

Yeah, taking the stable thing too far can be just as bad as no stability. We will find out this season for sure.
