I was never clear to me that Frank put that staff together. One of the problems with that season. In other news, people don’t forget the fans in Pittsburgh were chanting Fire Tomlin. It wasn’t good. He has his share of pride and the organization was walking a fine line to keep him and have that popping up next year.
-
He did but he didn’t dictate Rhule having that hybrid 3-3-5 with Snow. That was Snow’s system. I think we just run a 3-4 now because Frank did and he hired Evero who runs that system.
-
I think wherever Mike McCarthy goes, Jonathan Cooley goes. Capers was McCarthys coordinator for 9 seasons. None of his other DCs ever really worked out except Quinn who is in Washington now. McCarthy can’t have Evero but he can get his understudy. That would still be a 3rd round pick this year
-
Robert Hunt is a top 10 RG when he's healthy.
-
I think we will know. Neither Dan nor Dave came from heavy 3-4 defenses in their background. If we go 3-4 defensive coordinator again, I believe you have your answer.
-
I think Tepper forced Rivera into a 3-4 when he took over, can't really tell how much influence he's pushing nowadays since he's layed low the last couple years
-
Serious question. If by some chance Evero leaves, does anyone have any clues whether Morgan and Canales would hire a D.C. based on his preference for the 3-4 defense? Would they hire someone who would want to use the traditional 4 man front?
-
Carrying the team with his arm when other stuff isn’t working, hasn’t shown up. Needs to and if it doesn’t I hope the team doesn’t settle.

you're assuming he wasn't made an offer he couldn't refuse

Mike Kaye’s take: 2026 NFL free agency predictions
PanthersNCSU replied to TheSpecialJuan's topic in Carolina Panthers
I'm fine with Kaye, the young beat writer is the one I can't stand. If you ever want to stab yourself in the ears, listen to the Processing Blue podcast, where neither have charisma, but the young guy works in a lot of "Yo's" and says cool kid things like "mad crazy" and "that's tight".- 78 replies

If any of the things were true about Brian Flores, I would add him. Edit: Brian Daboll, as well. What a raging cVnt that guy was.
-
lol watch him coach there like 15 years and win 2 super bowls and like 9 division titles.
-
It's gonna be an interesting one to see that search. One has to assume they will go young coach again. Likely defensive, so Minter, Weaver, Evero all fit that mold. It could be that Evero is a better HC than he is a DC but I question how someone who seems so poor at talent evaluation and has a very flawed defensive strategy will excel at that. Hey, hopefully we find out. I know it could certainly get worse on that side of the ball for us but I suppose luckily it can't actually get that much worse than being dead last and below average. As many changes as we can make to our coaching staff, all the better.

His brother did not want him in the AFC--he said that--so if that was a factor, maybe we dodged a bullet. Funny, but an old college teammate who played in the NFL asked me recently, "Name 5 coaches in the NFL you would love to play for" which caused me to think for a while. Based on my learning style and what little I know of the NFL coaches, I responded: 1. John Harbaugh, 2. Mike Vrabel, 3. Mike Tomlin, 4. Demeco Ryans, and 5. Andy Reid. He asked the same question about coaches I would not like to play for, and all I could come up with is 1. Jim Harbaugh and 2. Josh McDaniels. Not sure about the others, but I would have put Bill Bellichick on the list. I heard that the did not like Kevin Stephanski for reasons I do not like in a coach.
-
The game has changed so much that running is an asset and not discouraged any more. It used to be all arm, pocket, you don’t want the backyard stuff. Because those guys are generally not great as pocket passers. So yeah I think ratings should account for it.
-
Like who? We have had far more leave and not pan out than vice versa.
-
My point is they are not going to make a bad hire, in all likelihood. Evero may or may not be a serious candidate for them. Like it or not, many teams interview certain coaches to check the rooney rule box. But if he is a serious candidate and they do hire him it means there's something there we probably don't see. I HATE Evero's scheme and playcalling decisions, but that doesn't mean he couldn't be a good/great HC. They are ultimately 2 different jobs, especially if as HC he let his DC call the plays. Maybe you're right about Tomlin but I don't get that vibe personally. I doubt they'd have fired him this year, maybe he saw writing on the wall for the following year but based on comments from Steelers ownership I think they were happy with him having them competitive every year, even with the playoff losing. I mean all Tomlin really needed to break through in the playoffs IMO was a QB. Harbaugh got fired (mutual*) because they couldn't break through again despite having a probably future HoF QB and multiple time MVP. I think Tomlin wanted a break and a change himself. I think he'll go back to coaching in a year or 2, but isn't waiting for the right opportunity just actually wants a break and a less stressful media job for now to kinda reset. Also wonder if he was getting frustrated at how the Steelers' FO kept approaching the QB position recently.
-
Green Bay may very well open up after next season. I agree, I think he will likely choose a spot with a settled QB situation. He thrived with that in Pittsburgh but he had to scrap hard to make do with the parade of misfit QB's since Roethlisberger retired.

Mike Kaye’s take: 2026 NFL free agency predictions

Idk, Moehrig plays close to the line and blitzes well pretty often. He had 14 TFL’s and 3 sacks. China is on his third team in three years, and I don’t know if he lit up the world for the Raiders. Don’t know if we can say he’s going to hold back every interesting player.- 78 replies

1 step closer to hiring Raheem Morris as DC
-
QBR as an idea to incorporate rushing effectiveness was a good concept. Without being able to see behind the curtain, it's hard to know if it is accomplishing that or not. I would say Nate Silver's QBERT has the potential to be a much better metric than QBR. At least his methodology is transparent, anyway.

thanks I get restructuring Horn and brown as they should be here for a long time but man at some point you got to bite the bullet with moton
-
I'm not Evero's No. 1 fan, but this place has a storied history of celebrating people leaving, then those people go out and perform better than they did here (sometimes beating this team along the way). We'll see what happens. I'd be a bit surprised if he got a HC gig but there's also a history of teams making head-scratching hires in that role. Thankfully, Tepper's not one of them.
-
As respected as he is, I am not sure a defensive guy can thrive unless he can find himself a QB. Which he has not been able to do for quite a while. So he needs a job that has one in place. Green Bay might have been a good place for him if it had opened. I wonder if Buffalo is tired of McD, if that might not be a good place for him too.

Serious question: does anyone like Mike Kaye? Doesn’t really seem like he brings much to the table.- 78 replies
