Big Ben on drafting a QB and roster building

Weird how he's survived getting tackled by all those 300 pound DBs out there. -

Tez Johnson is 154 lbs, plays WR and he isn't getting hurt. The size thing is MASSIVELY overplayed as an issue. It's all the other horseshit that is the issue. -

Pickles was a 2nd round pick. Bryce was 1st overall. At some point you expected to see something, anything for any period of time that showed why he was a 1st overall pick. I never saw it. The top QB in the draft is expected to elevate the players around him. Clausen didnt have that same level of expectation. Also have to remember that Bradford got a record rookie contract that year too. Can you imagine if we had given Bryce a comparable contract? We'd probably be paying close to 40m a season or more. We'd be doing more than screaming if Clausen and Bryce had been drafted in the same era. -

Bryce wouldn't be able to play in 2010 just because you could still hit qbs back then, and fall on them with your weight. Clausen could run the same offense Bryce is running today. Pat White was basically the same size as Bryce and https://www.tiktok.com/@iamspeedkillz/video/7561280897169755405 -

Both were hard to watch. No doubt. I just know that when watching Clausen I was actively screaming at the TV for his inept play. Bryce, I more felt bad for? Different feelings of frustration.

Give me a choice between the two right now? I'm taking Bryce. It's not false. And it is objective. I'm sorry your "reality" doesn't allow you to see that. -
I’m just not impressed with these hires/openings

Yeah, I suppose so. I mean....he wasn't even a good coach at Boston College. -

You're not impressed with the openings? Like the teams themselves? "Bills? Doesn't impress me." -
Works good on the dancing lion too in the DLC, just tried it

We gotta start swinging at some point. We need a rookie QB body in camp that could actually have potential. If he works out, fine. If not, swing again next year. We need to keep at it until we have a definite QB1 and a serious conversation piece at QB2.

I guess we’ll see. I liked what I read about him. It is a tough situation down there right now so I guess I don’t expect a ton. -

no, you said that Bryce is better than CJ right now. That their trend lines have already crossed. That is demonstrably false if you are bound to the limitations of objective reality. -

Rookie year? Yeah. They could be in the same conversation. Both were terrible to the point of deserving to never have stepped foot on the field at all that year. -
You watched that abomination that was Bryce Young in 2023? I gave him 10%. Make it 20% if it makes you feel better. Horrible is horrible. If either one was a piece of food you would spit them both out.
-
Cam is an exponentially better football player. No question. But saying Bryce is in the same conversation as Clausen? Go back and watch Jimmy again bro. Not even close.
-
I guess. Can’t dispute the roster that’s for sure. I would say that Bryce pretty much = Clausen plus 10% as far as that goes. With Cam being exponentially better than Both.

There isn't a right way. You take advantage of the opportunities you have. Finding the right mix is almost an art form or luck. Right situation, right GM, right coach, right players. With as much money as the NFL has, if there was a way to build a successful team every team would be trying to build the same way. Ben is just leaning into his bias because that was how it worked with him and he had great success. -
All my feelings towards Dan hinges on whether they extend Bryce or not

I am doing all my drafts under the assumption that Morgan backs the truck up for Hendrickson or Phillips. This is the latest. Traded back with SF and picked up #58 overall and a 2027 5th.

Stroud is who I thought he would be. He is a robot. He will make automatic, open throws, but he will crumble under pressure and in contested situations. People always used the Georgia game as an example of what "he could be". That was the outlier. That's not who he is regularly. The Panthers chose right. Was the choice good enough? This next year will tell us. And before the Bryce bashers say "yeah lets see how he does in year 11... Meh meh meh..." The fact is that this is an ascending roster with expectations going into next season. Bryce has to show up and show out. If he doesnt? 2027 is a good year to need a QB in the draft.

Need Melo to play full minutes. Folks on here give him crap (understood) but he’s a gamechanger when healthy and on the court. Not a bad game. -
Allar is actually a great gamble on Day 3.

You like Halfley?? He is basically dimestore Greg Schiano. That's one of the worst hires I have seen in a long time. -
Say what you want about easier paths or whatever, but Cam did have some of the most prolific players in Panthers history on his offense in 2011. Jordan Gross, Ryan Kalil, Steve Smith, Greg Olsen, DeAngelo Williams, Jonathan Stewart Bryce had... Taylor Moton? So... Yeah. And this isnt a knock on Cam at all. He elevated this team. It's a knock on Jimmy Clausen. Dude was balls.
