Yeah Steve loves to make hot takes. If he says something bland he's not really doing his job. Here is one of his comments about Baker: “He [Mayfield] wears his emotions on his sleeve, I do too,” Smith said. “I was an emotional player. But the difference between Baker and I is one, I won triple crown—I led the league in something besides crying.” I really don't want to see Baker out there crying unless we win a SB. Someone pass that along to him.

That is fantastic news about CJ! He looks like a number 1 CB, and if he can figure the game out then our secondary could be the best in the NFL. Add that to Watson being suspended and week one is looking like a win!

Yeah he's got that quick release nice and tight. I just hope he has the deep ball accuracy.

Jaycee Horn to Active-PUP List
pantherj replied to OnlyPantherFaninMaine's topic in Carolina Panthers
I'm hoping CJ has the mental side of the game down now because he has the physical talent to sub in for Horn. I just hope Horn doesn't break the other foot, or re-injure the broken foot, or injury anything, or get COVID, or a bad hang nail. Basically I'm worried. -
Washed up Julio is nothing to worry about.

I watched some fan footage of Smith last summer going against the Fin's DBs and he didn't get separation. I don't have high hopes for Shi.

I think Deonte Brown will end up being cut unless he has transformed himself quiet a lot.

I hate that Sam is taking up a roster spot, but we're on the hook for a lot of money because of Fitt's idiotic blunder. I can't envision Sam beating out Baker for the starting spot, but at the same time if he does then I think that's it for Rhule and Fitt. Too many mistakes for them too keep their jobs. They ran this ship straight into the rocks.

Baker Mayfield and Scott Fitterer presser today at noon.
pantherj replied to Zod's topic in Carolina Panthers
I think Baker will maker a few funny comments. He seems like a jokester. -
We have enough talent to have a winning season if Baker plays really well. If not, then we're looking at 6-7 wins imo. We'll know in the first 3 games how the season is going to go. We need to start 3-0.

It's funny thinking about Teddy's ending here. I remember in the weeks leading up the end of the season Rhule had been harping on how none of his players were allowed to reach the ball out at the goal line. He had been telling players and the media that we don't do that. Then the last game of the season (I think the last) Teddy stuck the ball out at the goal line and I think he fumbled on 3rd down. I'm sure Rhule was ready to strangle him.

Who is the lady on the right?

That sign isn't going to stop mistakes from being made, but it will certainly humiliate the multimillionaire grown men who have to go over and touch it.

Basically the HC and GM have to land a top tier QB or prospect. Otherwise you're team, no matter what you do with the scheme or overall talent, will be either lower tier or a bottom feeder. I don't care about outlier teams that had a good season with a lower tier QB. Sustained success comes from having a highly talented QB. Fitt and Rhule failed with Teddy, Sam, and Cam. We now have Baker and at some point Rhule and Fitt will be dumped for bringing in QBs who are not good enough for sustained success. Teddy was good enough to allow us to beat bottom tier teams, and miracle out a win here or there against a better team. Not anywhere near good enough to expect playoff wins no matter what we did in team building. The crazy thing was that we all expected just that before he even started for us. With Sam I had no positive expectations whatsoever. I expected him to fail, and he did exactly that. How is it that Huddlers knew better than our GM and HC? Our expectations played out, and their expectations were WAY off. Not even close. Fitt and Rhule will be fired in a few years imo. They can't find QBs.

I want coaches who have proven their talent at the NFL level. College OCs can go to a big school and have track stars outrun DBs and look like geniuses. College HCs can make a great sales pitch and recruit above what the school should be able to get, but that doesn't translate to the NFL.

I knew when Robby was out there telling the team we needed to run some hitch and go routes because the opposing defense was sitting our routes and we did nothing but run the same poop add nausea Joe was a problem. He didn't adjust the offense, we just ran the same poop the whole game. One CMC went down it was over. Yes Sam is terrible, but Joe doesn't adjust.
-
Our offense will be play action pass to try and free up targets for Mayfield to make easier throws. That will work just fine given our talent level UNLESS CMC is injured. If we lose CMC then it's a poop show until he returns.

On the surface I am thrilled with our secondary. Physically we have two number 1 CBs, and a number 2 CB. We have not had this much talent at CB since we had Lucas and Gamble, at least on the surface. If Horn and Henderson play up to their talent level, then we'll be able to be very aggressive on defense. And then we have DJax playing wherever (slot) and Chinn at Safety. Yikes we've got a lot of talent in the secondary. Doesn't matter at all though for 2022 because we don't have a top QB. Teams will eat up our secondary because we'll throw too many picks and they'll run our defense to death. 2023 we'll draft a top QB and then we'll be in business.

The cameras might catch the QB coach drinking hard liqueur on the job.
