This is starting to get nasty with coach wilks.
DaveThePanther2008 replied to ncguy2184's topic in Carolina Panthers
Not to mention that the New Orleans win at the end of the season wasn't something you'd be happy with. It basically came down to who could lose the game the most and not win it. -
If someone were to trade a 1st for Fields than that GM needs to be fired. I've been up and down on Fields but he has shown flashes. If they are ready to draft Young and let Fields, go than they are saying he's not an NFL caliber QB and IMO not worthy of a 1st round pick to trade with. If the Bears were truly ready to move on from Fields than our 49er 2nd round pick would be all I would offer. Reich is a QB guru so if anyone can make him a star QB than it's Reich. Like many of you, i don't want to do the retread on a QB anymore. We've done that the last 3 seasons and we are 0 for 3.

We've had the defensive minded coaches since our inception, minus Rhule who IMO was neither. Tepper has always said he wanted an offensive minded head coach. Wilks did a good job making this team competitive but as I said after the Pittsburgh game Wilks was done. IMO Tepper wanted to beat his old team and Wilks fell flat on his face. Pittsburgh was primed to be beat. Wilks and McAdoo had a terrible game plan and did nothing at halftime to adjust. IMO this had to burn Tepper's ass some. Losing to Tampa put Tepper's mindset that he wasn't the guy for the future. I think the final nail was Reich had names and was prepared during his interview. His plan was more advanced than Wilks. QB has been our Achilles heel since Cam got hurt. Why would Tepper want to go with a defensive minded coach that has very little experience developing a QB. Luck, Rivers and Wentz had some of their best numbers when they were with Reich. Remember Luck won comeback player of the year under Reich. I saw on YouTube how Irsay screwed up by blaming Reich, but the issues were far more internal than just the 3-5-1 record. I get that the NFL needs to do more to get minorities as their head coaches, but an owner should not have to sacrifice his goals to appease the NFL. If Wilks were offensive-minded he would have been our next head coach. I feel bad for Wilks and I really liked him but I have zero issues with going with Reich. IMO it had zero to do with race. Wilks's lawyer wants to make this about race. Sadly, that's the world we live in. Everything is about race, nothing to do with qualifications. -
Chances are none of these QBs will be Franchise QBs. A few might be serviceable but none of them have Lawrence, Herbert and Burrows skill levels. Those are Franchise QBs. These guys in this draft just happen to be the best available, That's it.
-
Doesn't make them Franchise QBs. Hell, Zack Wilson went No. 2 and Trey Lance #3 and are they franchise QBs. Just because they are predicted to go early doesn't make them Franchise QBs. Just means teams are desperate for a QB.
-
Hey @GOAT whatcha hating for. You honestly think one of these QBs in this draft is a Franchise QB? If you think so, I got land south of Key West I'll sell you real cheap.
-
He said franchise QB. I don't see one in this class. We might get a serviceable one for a couple of years but someone who'll lead us for the next 10 or 15 years. Highly doubt it. I didn't say we weren't drafting a QB though, I think it is highly possible. Just depends on how the cards fall on draft night.
-
There isn't one in this draft class.

Reich is third on my list behind Steichen and Payton. I was listening to a PODCAST yesterday saying it was Steichen job to lose. I hope we hold out until the Eagles are out of the playoffs. I do believe that if Wilks is retained, we will definitely have a new OC. I cringe at the thought of McAdoo being our OC in 2023.

New Coach Thread 2: Electric Boogaloo
DaveThePanther2008 replied to Ricky Spanish's topic in Carolina Panthers
Wrong If a new head coach believes that he can make a 3rd round QB his starter than it would definitely be something we would consider in hiring a head coach. Payton would definitely be a good one for Corral and I believe Steichen would also do well with him. -

Unlike you I don't focus on one thing, yours being drafting a QB in round one just to say we have a round one QB. Corral has to be in the discussion with our new HC. Whether they believe he has skills to be a starting QB or not. If you have a HC that believes Corral has what it takes than it gives the franchise the opportunity to use our picks on other positions of needs. Steichen, Payton and Reich are great with QBs. Any of these coaches, two are my favorites to win the job, can take a young QB and develop him. Do I want Corral to succeed, absolutely. Do I think getting a coach that can work with him is the right move, yes. Yours is drafted a QB at all cost. -
Other Thoughts About Our First Pick
DaveThePanther2008 replied to RumHam's topic in Carolina Panthers
I think the new head coach may be a QB whisperer for Corral. As much as a nice DE would be good for us. I would love for us to give our QB a good option outside of Moore. -

I think our best move is Steichen but Payton being 2nd. Steichen will have a full set of draft picks and I think that will be key in the decision. I think if we hire Payton it is going to be based on whether he thinks Corral will be his QB. If Payton thinks he can work Corral into our starting QB than we will trade this years pick to New Orleans. New Orleans will not be happy if he comes to Carolina and I don't think they'll accept our 2024 pick. They'll want 2023 but if we could somehow give up next year's pick than that makes hiring Payton much more realistic. I prefer Steichen. -
I'm not much on these mock drafts either. 99% of the time they might get one pick right.
-
Well according to Daniel Jeremiah we are halfway to your hopes. Daniel Jeremiah 2023 NFL mock draft 1.0: Texans, Ravens among four teams selecting quarterbacks

Lance has has far more opportunities to succeed than Corral and from what I saw, rain, shine, snow or whatever, he look terrible. Playing scared and running like he was in college again. There was little poise and pocket awareness. His throws were PJ Walkeresk. There wasn't one thing other than his ability to run that would scream he'll succeed in this league. I said a couple months ago bust but I've come around to trending towards being a bust. I'll gladly eat crow if I am wrong but I doubt I will be. I'm not high on Corral, I just get irritated at those that give him zero chance. I believe he's as good as any of these kids coming out of the draft this year. You can argue one or two might be a bit better but not by much. Stroud can play but as many OSU QBs have proven, it's the system and not the QB. His question marks are as much a concern as any issue with Corral. Young size is a concern and he seem to be far more fragile than RGIII was. And we saw how that derailed his career. Little capital? We traded away our 2023 3rd pick and our 4th round pick in 2022 so we could get him. If we weren't so sure about him why would trade away picks to get him. You discount a 3rd round pick as some late round pick. 3rd round picks are potential starters. So let's not play it off as some pick we couldn't have used elsewhere. I've said all along that whoever we hire as a coach and whoever is in our QB room. Corral will be given an opportunity to win the job. Most of the Corral haters and "WE GOTTA HAVE A FIRST ROUND QB" fans give him zero chance.

My biggest take on this is how those that support Lance and his performance, whether you believe like I do it was Abysmal or as you say just too raw. Those that support him are the same ones that trash Corral. Lance has some halo around him and gets a pass for his injury but Corral injury is chronic and he is made of glass. Lance gets a pass for having more rushing yards than passing yards with BS excuses like he played in a Monsoon when the weather was 69 degrees with 15mph winds hardly a monsoon. But Corral is a bust and wasted pick because he looked bad in his first preseason game and mediocre in his 2nd preseason game before coming out with an injury. Lance gets a pass after spending the entire preseason working with the first and second string offenses to be prepared for the starting gig while Corral got scraps from a coach that had zero interest in trying to develop him as a QB. What it boils down to is those that trash Corral are the ones that believe we have to have a first round QB. It doesn't matter whether he's any good or not. He just has to be a first rounder. There are 3 or 4 teams ahead of us that most likely will take Stroud and Young and probably Levis. It's ludicrous to want to waste a pick on a QB just to say we have our 1st round QB. This offseason evaluation period on QBs has to include Corral's abilities as well as those we are considering in the draft. I don't think any of the QBs in this draft scream FRANCHISE QB. If we draft one than we better believe he is. The Lance lovers and protectors will scream Corral isn't in the same class. I say BS.
-
Trey Lance has had a complete season to learn from one of the best offensive minds in the league. When given the opportunity to show something he looked abysmal. The Niners whole season changed when he went down. Corral got two preseason games from a coach that gave him absolutely nothing to work with. This includes no valuable Reps the entire training camp and preseason and an offensive line that couldn't beat a mediocre college team. Yet many of you would trade away more valuable picks instead of giving Corral a chance. Only morons would trade away picks for a QB that is trending towards one of the all time greatest busts. (value wise)
-
I say there is a slim chance we get one of the desirable QBs in this draft. Not to say they are the answer to our problem. Many of them have major question marks and none of them scream franchise QBs. All with as many or more Question marks as Corral. Those of you that are so hellbent on drafting one of these QB at any cost are pushing us further behind by wasting a pick on a QB when we have other needs and can get a quality pick on a position of need. Corral is only bad in your eyes because you want one of these QBs. I say they aren't that much better, if at all.

We're not trading up for either of these guys. BANK ON IT. AR in the 2nd round.

Act as GM if we win the division….
DaveThePanther2008 replied to WarPanthers89's topic in Carolina Panthers
In 2014 the Panthers went into the playoffs with a 7-8-1 record and won a playoff game. In 2015 we went 15-1 and went to the Super Bowl. The playoff experience may have given the 2015 team the belief they were that good. So yeah backing into the Playoffs can mean something. It's not insignificant. -
So the Titans giving up on Malik Willis already?
DaveThePanther2008 replied to GoobyPls's topic in Carolina Panthers
I love all the excuses for Willis. These same excuses are coming from the Corral is garbage folks. Same guys that wanted Willis in the first round. Of Course, he needs more time, LOTS MORE TIME. There is a difference in guys like Allen that showed flashes and then stupidity. Hell he still does it. Willis, from what I have seen is WAY WAY WAY over his head.
