  1. Of course they matter and they paid off but you're not always going to have a franchise QB land in you lap. Detroit let Stafford go because he had no chance of winning there. Watson wanted out of Houston and 230 million guaranteed is insane. Brady picked his spot and got another ring. When you don't have a franchise QB are you supposed to just tank until you do? No you have to find a competent replacement until you get lucky enough to land one. No one knows what a rookie is going to bring. Last year everyone had Mac Jones as the lowest rated QB and probably had the best season of all the rookies. In the meantime you build your team to succeed with the best talent around your QB and hope they are good enough to win with them and a good defense.
  2. I've said this before. You can't run an offense with the line that we had before. Darnold is probably not the answer but when you put ANY QB behind that line he wasn't going to do well. Just look at the 2021 Super Bowl. KC was without both LT and got expose by TB. Their line was abysmal in the Super Bowl and they got destroyed even with Mahomes. Pickett and any QB in this draft has question marks on whether they will succeed in the NFL. While I am not again drafting one. That QB, whoever he may be, will have a much better chance at surviving with a competent line. To prove you wrong, Mark Rypien, Nick Foles, Jim McMahon, Joe Flacco, Brad Johnson, Jeff Hostetler, Doug Williams and Trent Dilfer. All of these players were not franchise QBs but won a Super Bowl because they had a good cast around them. PROVE ME WRONG
  3. The only problem you have with that philosophy is that you might not be in a position to get that pick unless you trade away multiple 1st round picks.
  4. How many coaches have survived because they had good staff or a great QB. It can go both ways you can survive because you stay out of the way and let your coaches coach or you have that franchise QB that makes you look better than what you are.
  5. Had he done nothing he should have been fired this year. I think all the Vet coaches save his @SS. Fitterer/Morgan have done a good job in addressing our offensive weakness. Now there is no excuse as to why we can't at least have a respectable season.
  6. He's on the hook either way but if he let's McAdoo do what he was hired for he actually might get another season. If he gets in the way he'll sink his own boat.
  7. Some want to point out that Cam went 0-fer as a starting QB. Behind that line I'm not surprised. Somehow we survived 15-1 with Remmer at tackle. I would almost argue that this is a better line than 2015. Cam's arm may not be 100% what it was 7 years ago but the situations he was in since he was release hasn't really be fair to him. This line would be the benchmark of what he really can do.
  8. Rhule IMO will have no excuses this year. We've addressed the offensive line to where we should, at minimum, be competent. We have one of the best offensive line coaches in the league. We have plenty of talent at the skilled positions on offense. Our defense appears to be shaping up and we have a good coaching staff on defense. Whatever they decide for QB is on Rhule and he'll have to live with that decision. Whether a Vet FA or Darnold or a rookie, it will be on him. I think if he lets McAdoo do his job and stays out of the play calling he might survive. If he mettles and cost us games it's all on him.
  9. I assume you are saying we are going to trade down and get a 2nd round pick out of it. That would put us at 51. I don't think Ridder gets that low. I've heard he's had some good workouts. Maybe.
  10. Cam with the way the offensive line is shaping up would be better than any QB on the roster. He's most likely better than any rookie and free agent we might bring in. This is also a chance for Cam to show he's really better than what everyone thinks he is. Cam still has mobility in the pocket and with a bit more time to throw he might just surprise some of you. He may be washed up but I'm betting he'd be good with this line.
  11. IMO if we could get Minshew with the current talent on this roster. We could compete. If Rhule lets our OC run the offense we could make some noise. TB ran with a ton of veterans on a "last ride" mentality. I'm not sure all those aging vets are going to age with Brady. They'll be tough because Brady is there but the tooth is getting long in TB. N.O. is going to be a huge question mark. As much as I hate to say it. Payton was an offensive genius and he's gone. It is not a forgone conclusion that his replacement is going to be as good as he was regardless of the talent that remains. Everyone knows Winston is good for 2 or 3 loses a year.
  12. I liked the video and we're going to have to do some serious manipulation to get him.
  13. A little bit of Cam in the 2nd clip. He looks nice but not worthy of 6 and too late for our 4th.
  14. I'm not one that knows the value difference from 6 to 15 and a 4th but if the value is higher say a 3rd or second I'd be all onboard with it. I think it comes down to what they value him as.
  15. Trade 6 for Philly's 15 and Minshew. That's just as valuable as a 4th round pick and they have chance to get a top tier piece. We drop down and still have a good chance of getting a LT or maybe Linderbaum.
  16. The tipping point for me, as well as the Panthers, was fully guaranteeing his contract. There are too many reasons why that is a bad idea and I'm glad Tepper wasn't desperate enough to give in. I'm also super happy he didn't end up in Atl or N.O. Would have hated to play him twice a year. I wish him luck and hope he pushes Cleveland over the hump.
  17. Minshew IMO is the best choice. Cheap and if he doesn't pan out he would be a free agent next year. NO additional money owed and we can TRY to get a quarterback next season but that isn't a guarantee.
  18. Too bad we can't find him a better role. He was clutch most of the time.
  19. 3.6 yards per carry isn't great but considering we had no passing game and a porous offensive line. I'd say that wasn't bad. I'd like to see him behind a competent offensive line.
  20. This signing has me believing we are going to get Watson and CMC will be part of the deal. Hubbard and Foreman could be a nice duo for us. Either that or we have another taker for CMC, Maybe another first and we package that with one more 1st rounder next year.. Thoughts?
  21. Well let's hope that he plays well enough that at least someone signs him next year as a free agent and we get a compensation pick.
  22. 95% of me believes he's done at least as a starting QB. Might have a career as a backup. That said. No one, and I mean no one would have succeeded behind our offensive line. I will give him that 5% as a maybe he can thrive behind a good offensive line. i don't think so, but IMO there is a small chance he can be a starting QB.
  23. Good God the 3 picks is hard to swallow but giving up our best two defenders really hurts. Question for the Cap guys. We don't add much to the salary cap off of Burns and Chinn? I mean that is more money we can bring in replacements for these guys.
  24. i have recently read that no picks were going to be involved. I find that hard to believe unless they want players on our squad right now. I think it would be foolish to give up all our talent and leave the QB without anyone to work with, plus Watson would void the trade if we had no assets. I would say that CMC could be involved because we have Hubbard and I believe with a better line he can be a frontline RB. Anderson or Moore or possibly TMJ could be another asset we could part with since we have Smith sitting in the wings. Defensively possibly Shaq and maybe YGM or Brown but since we let most of our FA walk I am not sure who else we could let go.
