As do fans of those teams. I hope we can shake this desperation mindset.

If... AR drops to 9, do you take him then?
stratocatter replied to musicman's topic in Carolina Panthers
I have to say, it is only necessary to move up to the 1st overall if a generational can't miss barely any downside guy is there. A clear consensus. I don't see that guy in this draft. I don't think Chicago sees that guy, or the pick would not be for sale. Nearly all my negativity towards trading up stems from this: you probably don't have to go too far back to find a draft where the 4th rated, 5th rated, or lower, turned out to be the best QB pick. For me, the 9th pick is an acceptable risk for where the roster is and could be with 2 seconds this year and 1sts every year. If he isn't there, get your next highest rated QB wherever you have to. Higher, lower, however it falls, you are taking your next best rated QB. Plan on doing that the next year too. Until you have something special. It will come. If these coaches are as advertised they will get production out of an average QB, and average is the floor. -
Okay, "years of folks questioning.... based on nothing.... "? What does that even mean? I think you are trying to say that people questioned his commitment based on... a feeling? I'm not sure. When you saw him state that he wasn't changing things though he was competing with a new teammate for his job, you go from what is maybe an innocous comment so similar to what many athletes say about their preparation. That it is a routine, and they don't change it for something like that. Anyhow, it goes straight to indictment time. Your words here: He openly admitted he did not bother to change anything about how he prepared when he was competing with Baker Mayfield in camp last year. Have you not seen people make these comments many times over in thje past? It is kind of a cliche answer from players. And, Openly? Didn't Bother? THE NERVE OF THE GUY!!!!! He just shockingly admitted that he has a preparation routine and didn't change it, as if it is him saying, nah fug it I don't give a damn. I can't take you seriously with all that window dressing. That just isn't the real story. Go ahead and throw out some insults, ignore me, whatever works for you.

I don’t see anybody claiming Darnold is “bound for greatness”. I am going to suggest that you are interpreting his comments beyond their context and using that in your sales pitch for your opinions. So okay, fine. I see it that way. May not be correct, but the fact that Darnold or any athlete may have stuck to his same routine isn’t necessarily an accurate barometer of his competitiveness inside the lines. And again, so we do not leave this buried, I have not seen anyone suggest he is bound for greatness. Laughing as I consider that you are claiming that. It is a humorous thought. Show me who said that and I will mock them lol.

I'd be good with anything that allows us to have 1st round picks in the future too. You have to still build the team, you need the picks. So dead set against selling out for a kid that is not recognized as the second coming at QB. Which is apparently the goal of half the fans.
-
To say they had him ride the running game, yep. correct. True. He was asked to make some throws. He made some real nice ones. He missed some too.

That’s unfair. And is an effort to demean the intellect of people who don’t agree with YOU. And it is intellectually disingenuous to ignore unequal situations to make your weak ass argument. Why should people have to spend time to correct you? Just come correct in the first place. Be honest in your sales pitch’s and arguments at least. Lamar will cost a fortune Both in picks And salary. It is literally the worst deal going if that is the cost.

Rumor: The Prodigal Son And The Road Home
stratocatter replied to rippadonn's topic in Carolina Panthers
I think giving credit to a coach for a QBs success is fine, but why would Daboll be the only coach qualified to use him properly? I actually don’t mind thinking about Jones. I don’t know enough about the guy really but why shouldn’t people look at it? Maybe that 45 million asking price? Maybe they are skeptical because he may have had a single good year out of 4? Though, maybe the light bulb is coming on. Id rather sign Sam at this point to be honest but open to having my mind changed. We can still draft a QB. Still will have Corral if that matters. -
On the plus side he can hide really well at that height. They won’t be able to find him to sack him. But really, I think about all those Mayfield batted passes, and envision the same thing. The Russell Wilson trajectory, because he has to get it over the big guys. And I remember watching Flutie. I see that as t(e issue more than him being carted off or something. And I sure hope that isn’t the menu 17 times a year.

Maybe he will be providing a positive addition to my bookmarks soon. Almost anything would be more substantial than spouting the company line.

Robbie Anderson is now Chosen Anderson
stratocatter replied to TheBigKat's topic in Carolina Panthers
I saw someone complaining he dropped a lot of passes. Shocked to hear it. He's a guy that might be fun to twist one up with but I wouldn't have him on my football team. -
That's interesting. I am hoping they can identify talent that isn't appreciated by fans, because there is a category of successful QBs that were overlooked/underrated when ranking prospects. Mostly because these long odds high stakes highly speculative guessing gambles people are focusing on, are not making me optimistic. I am down to hoping these new decision makers are smarter than Mac and Bone and all you pie in the sky posters here that want to give it all up for a shiny new trendy toy.

We needed someone with enough pedigree to keep Tepper out of the kitchen when he gets that OCD stare. Tepper will listen to him, at least early in the process. So let’s hope.

I don’t really like being put in a “crowd”. But if I must be in one, then let it be called the “we have some common sense” crowd. These trade ups where you pretend you won’t need that 1st rounder the next two or three years, giving paying that for never played in tne NFL quarterbacks…. who are they? They are not spoken of in the same terms as Maye, Williams, and guys from the past that people Knew were going to be really good pros. They are low percentage long shot ridiculous gambles that rarely payoff. If people want to be the old Saints, the old Bengals, Browns, keep rolling that way. Man there are a couple of guys who could have good careers maybe, if they don’t go to a team barren of resources to invest in making a better team around them.

If the ‘wind’ is behind New Orleans and Carr, Panthers probably could have had Carr if they really wanted. If the wind is behind Crappy teams that get these top two or three QBs, there is One of them I would sweat. Stroud. AR may be a worry but not for two or three years. Good luck to the team that rolls with Young that high. Not one of them is a sure thing. Panthes need to play the Panthers’ game, not a reactive game. I think they are, with this lukewarm courtesy meeting interest level re Carr. I am really really against giving up all the draft picks to move up, but if they believe so strongly in it, like, if that is their plan, okay I will give it another look.
-
Looking at that money, I am cooler on it a but Carr plus keeping all our picks was the way to go. If not Carr then, next. Can’t help it. #9 all by its little self should get a QB. Honestly if I am gonna ridiculously overspend just to have something right now, I’d rather reach like hell with #9 than toss that and the most substantial part of our drafts in ‘24 and ‘25 to move 8 damned spots.

top dawg, you know QBs do not play each other. Straw man. I think Mr fuzz is pretty straight on it. For me, I’d elaborate to include Lamar isn’t getting any younger, and when you factor in the style of play (that is what he is basing his pitch on, it’s his game). The style is risky, and worse: the effect seems to be cumulative, it compounds the issue the farther into the career you go. Or can, and the issue is total hits, you know, how long can a player go before a breakdown or a decline maybe I should say. When these numbers mount up they start to matter. Games, hits, pulls, strains, tears, concussions, whatever other metric you want to use. Miles. If he retracts a part of his game that contributed to his value, the team will be paying more and probably a lot more, for less. Some kind of less. TBD. But also to be expected. At some point in that contract he is liable to no longer be the guy he is today or may be next year. You know what I am saying? We watched Cam. 20 million a year and That roster spot, we were lucky. Now it is 45 million. Guaranteed too. Were I Baltimore I would franchise, franchise, release before I would sign the deal he is demanding. Or let someone give me the picks and financial flexibility to get the next QB and reset the clock. If I were owner I would try to reason with him, and ask him not to back me into a corner. edit to add: I wrote from a Baltimore viewpoint, same goes for us, scepter we can’t franchise him obviously. I am bout to beg people to reclaim their senses and get out of this desperation ‘at all costs’ mentality that’s going around. Read a list of busted top ten picks or something.
-
So the Ravens will be screwed by not signing him to the deal he hopes to get, saving all that money, and then taking their two picks someone gives them? Add that to this year’s 1st they can replace him with the 1st overall pick on a 5 year rooking deal. I’d not feel too screwed. I’d feel screwed if an injury prone player successfully held me hostage for a fully guaranteed king’s ransome.

I feel the flooding the QB room too, you have the right evaluators you can get some good stuff for the coaches to work with.

Panthers founder Jerry Richardson passes away at 86
stratocatter replied to mcsmoak's topic in Carolina Panthers
RIP JR sir. Sail on. He treated me great in my only interaction with him and I was a nobody. That is what I know for sure. Along with the whole ‘got the NFL for people who were in NFL no man’s land’ thing. People born before like, probably around 1980, remember those times. I think I was over 40 years old before we actually had a team. Been an NFL fan my entire life really, since like 1960 when JR played and I was Baltimore Colts fan because my cousins moved there and… Johnny U. Crap I was watching the ‘Heidi’ game when they flipped the switch. Raiders I think? Long time. Chiefs maybe. AFC or AFL at the time, definitely. Believe me, the only good thing about not having a home team is you could be a front runner lol if your current team pissed you off enough. Quit ‘em. Nobody cares. Your friends don’t care. You can’t do that with a home team. Which we all have now. And to me that is JR’s legacy. Especially right now at this time. Anyway that is an attempt to explain why a lot of people want to give JR at least the love for things he did that benefitted us. Regarding his alleged wickedness, details would be nice. If he was a bad guy he might be trying to explain all that around now, somewhere. I realize there were settlements, but also realize those lawyer people will often advise the innocent that it is cheaper to settle. JR was old, rich as hell, had been dealing with serious health issues, he didn’t need any more trouble. So without proof it is simply what it is. Granted it is a slick trick for the accusers (NDA type settlements). But, maybe for the offenders at times, depending on what really happened. ‘round we go again. I just need actual real verified details before I banish the guy and wash my hands. Like Ray Rice in the elevator style evidence, of something. One real thing that would get you sued or maybe prosecuted. If you don’t have video, maybe some sworn testimony, all legal and binding. That sort of thing. We have standards for stuff like that, or we did I guess. That sort of protection goes for all of you as well. Not just a rich guy who founded a franchise. You get the benefit of the doubt without proof too. Always. And if you are guilty, well, again I quote John Fox….. So thanks again JR a lot of people appreciated you a lot. Hope you were not that guy.
