  1. If there is a QB there that you like you take the QB -- We were set up so PERFECT this past off-season, two top QB's fall to us at #8, we could have the rookie and Darnold compete and let the best man win as AT THE TIME, Darnold was only 4M on the books, and a rookie would come with a 4 year deal & 5th year option. So even if Darnold won the job in camp, the rookie would be there to learn / develop and be ready to start in 2022. Instead, we paid Darnold 18M+ and are in a position where we will need to pony up to either trade for a QB (Watson), or trade up via the draft.
  2. They understand assignment, this is a maintain the draft position signing. This OL is shot, and lost TWO STARTERS to IR. We're going nowhere.
  3. I'll give you QB, but how could the OL be better if there were no better options in FA?
  4. Name better FA acquisitions that were had at the OL position this offseason, people have already done the work the OL FA market in the ''affordable'' range was not good AT ALL. I'm not giving a pass on the QB's see the 1st paragraph, as far as the OL they signed who was available in a week free agency. People expecting some magical turn around after the way things ended with Rivera, Luke retiring, Olsen being released followed by Cam are disillusioned. It took them ONE year to fix the defense, and only Burns / Jackson are the real carry overs from Rivera / Hurney. We're halfway into year two, it hasn't even BEEN two years yet. I'm not a Rhule apologizer, but I can acknowledge the good / bad and remain objective / realistic. Their history projects to have this team in respectable shape heading into year 3. In my opinion they tried to skip / accelerate the QB development pieces by choosing younger, yet worse options than Cam.
  5. Darnold looks worse each week, therefore the team does. I don't see how any intelligent person can look at the assembled roster and say this is not a good roster. QB / OL aside, this is a very good roster, and even the OL had 2 of the 5 spots settled until Paradis went down. They tired to address OL via trade no one was interested, if you go back and look there weren't many better options on the market over Erving / Elf. Then they opted not to reach in the draft and took a sure thing in Horn. I think they failed with the BLIND LOYALTY to Sam as they tried to create a PRESSURE free environment, but the QB is the player with the MOST pressure to succeed, so if he can't handle in house expectations, how could he handle them on gameday. Since then we have seen the result.
  6. I mean what did you honestly expect in a year and a half? Even ARI with Murray, if you want to look at CLE and Baker etc. all took 2-3 seasons, and we are even worse off at QB...
  7. I think you can resolve that with making a move at QB, keep in mind Reddick signed here KNOWING Darnold's NFL history as did everyone else. As long as the staff doesn't QUADRUPLE down on Darnold we will be moving on and building a better offense; whether it's via draft / trade / free agency. Reddick is playing off of Brian, and last year played off of Jones, I don't see him as a primary guy, but he is excellent in his role and I think we will be compensating him as such with a good contract.
  8. I want to start off by saying Rhule has screwed the pooch multiple times on the quarterback decisions. Cam >> Teddy >> Darnold >> Passing on Fields, or even Jones. Each decision has been a lesson in regression, we went from a recently injured former NFL MVP, to a former end of the 1st round pick turned back up due to injury, to a former #3 overall bust. The Teddy decision wasn't as bad as it just involved money, the Darnold decision is 2x as poor as it tied up 3 picks, and nearly 20M in guaranteed salary. To be fair we recouped most of those picks as we brought in 11 rookies, and the missing 3rd is tied to CJ Henderson, a piece that gives us some flexibility when making cornerback extension decisions (Gilmore, & Jackson). Ok, that QB piece may not have helped with the ledge stepping so look at this: In the 2020 season we had early on what looked like one of the worst defenses in the NFL, I think most would agree around the 3/4 mark of the season (around the GB game) you saw the young defense start to take shape after an unprecedented draft where we took nothing but defensive players. Fast forward to 2021 with that class supplanted by key FA acquisitions / time to grow we have one of the better defenses in the NFL on paper and in the stat sheets. Now currently in 2021, we are a laughing stock at the Quarterback position, and our OL is in shambles. However; a few things, we still have 7 picks, and we have the cap to not only retain our pending FA's but we have some cap available to attack OL in free agency. I fully anticipate to see 4-6 new OL heading into the 2022 season added via FA / draft. Quarterback is a bigger question, I think we end up with a veteran, I do not think Sam makes it after this season ends, he will get his 18.8M, or maybe there's some loophole to split the dead money that Sumir can find. I can't see a team pulling a DEN and actually trading anything for Sam, I'd be surprised if he signed anywhere once released. He's just a bad NFL QB. Maybe we try for Watson again, as the skill positions on offense are in place, and the defense is set up, and cap space of 90M+ is available to address the OL if we swing for the fences on him (legal matters pending). The point is, even though he's failed at addressing the QB / OL -- the defense was turned around overnight, I think a similar makeover is coming for the OL / QB. I mean as BAD as Sam is, we eeked out 4 wins, and I think if we're honest, we all know if T2G was still here, or hell even Cam we're probably a 6-3 team versus 4-5. Stay patient, and #KeepPounding I don't think we're that far off from being a playoff contending team.
  9. The Rhule / Hurney and the Rhule / Fitterer drafts both look to be promising classes. Don't let the frustration misguide you. Right now we're all pissed because: 1) Darnold is horrible 2) The OL is in bad shape If you look at how they attacked the defensive shortcomings, I'm inclined to believe the offense will receive similar attention as we have the cap space to do so. Rookies on the OL are also hit or miss, I'd rather see us spend some on proven veteran acquisitions / supplement the depth with a couple of draft picks so they can develop.
  10. This, its my team, gonna be my team, through Clausen and now through this. But it may be off the DVR
  11. Bets are off, hit Mac low and often fug that poo
  12. Telling the truth as a former HOF caliber player as a sports commentator is a dick move...it's some soft ass ppl out here.
  13. If we got a LT, we could move Erving inside to LG, or RG, he's played both if memory serves. I'm of the mind to keep our defense as is, IF we can't retain Donte, we're looking at -- Gilmore / Horn outside, and Bouye as the nickel as he is on a 2 year deal, Henderson as additional outside depth, Pride returning, and Keith Taylor, with Hartsfield as the CB / S piece. We could definitely survive trading or losing Jackson, though I think they want to keep him, he has played well under Rhule's staff.
  14. If you watched Shaq's presser he didn't come across as though he was 100%
  15. An off-season and 7 games, versus 3 years of bad habits....Sam looked good early but he wasn't being hit / pressured too much. As soon as he started to take a few hits / sacks it was a slow decent ala Carr in HOU, I think Sam is shell-shocked and there is nothing to salvage, I think he is what he is, and the answer to that is ''not good''.
  16. Good, gimme that higher pick, we could use a top five selection.
  17. I will fault them for the QB decisions, I think that is obvious; IMO they tried to skip the develop franchise QB part using rookie QB success rates long term as the catalyst (50% bust rate). However with that same logic they should have known where Darnold stood, the NFL isn't ''another man's trash, is another man's treasure league''. People forget, Tannehill was good before Gase and even earned the extension, he regressed with Gase, too many people made the assumption Sam was the same, Sam was really never good. The OL acquisitions, well when you look at the OL FA landscape this past off-season it was BARREN. I can only hold them accountable so much in that regard given the lack of available quality guys. They chased traits thinking they could coach it up, same with Darnold. It hasn't worked.
  18. TL;DR -- We are on schedule __________________________________________________________________________________________________ The 3-0 start had us all hype, happy, excited, and to me that is what has made the last 4 games more painful than they should be. However, most seasoned and realistic fans could see in the off-season / post Darnold trade / post draft that we were probably a 6-9 win team. We were coming off a 5-11 year and had just traded for a HUGE question mark at QB. With that in mind let's look at some changes considering we are 1 season and 7 games into the rebuild...more so on the offense... QB - Teddy Bridgewater >>> Sam Darnold -- This is a net negative IMO, Darnold has more talent, but he's a worse QB (TBF and I'm not a TB fan / apologist -- we probably beat PHI / MIN / NYG with Teddy - Darnold has proven to be inept at reading coverage) HB - CMC & Mike Davis >>> CMC is on IR, Chuba is not matching Davis' production but I can give him a bit of a pass as a 4th round rookie behind a bad OL who has still flashed on occasion; he just needs to work on his brick hands at the moment, as big as Freeman is, his pass pro is lacking but he is a competent runner. FB - Alex Armah >>> Giovanni Ricci -- Armah is the better pure blocker, Ricci is more versatile -- We should have kept Armah WR - DJ, Robbie, Curtis >>> DJ, Robbie - DJ has been for the most part what we were expecting, Robbie is ''trying'' too hard to live up to the money by pressing to make plays, and Darnold's terribly inconsistent accuracy isn't helping his receivers. TMJ due to Darnold's ineptitude has been limited & recently concussed, and Shi Smith just played his first 2 games of the season in weeks 6 & 7. TE - Ian Thomas, Chris Manhertz >>> Ian Thomas, Tommy Tremble -- I think we're clearly better here, Tommy already has a couple TD's on his young resume, his athleticism shows regularly. To me Joe Brady needs to call more plays to get them involved with CMC absent, and the attention on DJ / Robbie. Darnold needs to look to them more. OL - Okung (Trent Scott), Schofield (Chris Sneed) >> With Erving, & Elflein you could almost call it a wash due to how many games Okung missed, with Elflein out guys like Daley have been exposed so much so that we are down to the 3rd stringer in Jordan, Miller seems worse than last year as most of us were okay with his return. Paradis, and Moton are the only consistency we have, Christensen is a rookie and learning, and Brown is now on IR. Overall I think in time this will come together, we just have to improve the Guard play on both sides. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________ I think it is safe to say the defense is much better, a complete turnaround, gone is the 3-3-5 and in comes a more traditional 3-4 alignment from our base, and most of the guys from last year remain (Burns / Brown / Gross-Matos / Shaq / Jackson / Chinn / Burris) FA Additions: DaQuan Jones, Morgan Fox, Haason Reddick Trade acquisitions: Stephon Gilmore, C.J. Henderson ________________________________________________________________________________________________________ I know this 4 game skid, and potentially one longer than that are beyond frustrating and take most of us back to 2007 - 2010, where we faltered around a bit back as we attempted to replace Delhomme -- Moore, Clausen, Pike, St. Pierre to now attempting to replace Cam with Bridgewater, and Darnold to date. I write this to say, honestly what was been done with the defense through a season was / is impressive, and with an active body at GM, it is likely we will continue to improve the roster as free agency and cap space for the first time in a long time will afford us some opportunities to upgrade the offensive line in free agency with more proven targets. I know a lot of you are concerned with our draft capitol, but we still have: 1st / 4th (HOU) / 5th (JAX) / 5th / 6th / 6th (LVR) / 7th (TEN) That is still 7 total picks, it is still to be determined if we stand pat with our first or look to trade down (my money is on trading down), if so we will make up for missing picks, but do not forget that ''we ADDED 11 rookies this past draft'', so we are not hurting in the youth / depth departments aside from a couple positions, the likely-hood of a rookie 2nd or 3rd rounder starting is low; they're usually contributors year one aside from the gems that fall (like Chinn). Point is, we have options, and we have a GM that seems capable, this was never supposed to be ''our season / time''. The expectation was always some steady improvement in S1 / S2 of the rebuild with us being in position to make some credible noise in S3. I do believe we are on pace for that, so keep your heads up, and #KeepPounding
  19. Don't blame Rivera, blame this staff, we should have rested starters the last few weeks, I don't believe in that pointless wins bs ''winning culture'' bro this is your job you're paid millions; if you need a win for motivation you're in the wrong place. It does nothing, same crap when we got that pointless win versus NO in 17' and we dropped 9 spots to 16, and we got lucky Burns was still there.
