I think they're the most likely options. If either is signed then a QB will definitely be drafted this season.

Poll: What do you want Panthers to do for QB?
Navy_football replied to NAS's topic in Carolina Panthers
I voted to get Carr and draft BPA. I want to draft BPA and get a vet QB - doesn't have to be Carr. -
I see what you did there.
-
I agree. But that's what any team would offer, right? Unless some team with multiple firsts this year wanted to move up. Not sure about that, but generally speaking teams offer future first and second round picks. The Panthers would have had a ton of them.
-
Any 1sts the team could offer would be this year's and then future ones. We could have given up the 9th pick, our second, the Ram's second, and the Ram's first next season. And still would have had a second this year, and a first next year, and 2 firsts in 2024. Along with our franchise QB (we'd hope).
-
So 4 firsts and a second?! Being sarcastic... Burns was never worth what the Rams were willing to give up for him. But those 2 firsts and a second would've made it possible to move up and still have significant draft capital left over. The team drastically overvalued their guy.
-
That would make sense, since the Bears have enough cap to sign him long term. If Burns is worth 2 (1sts) and a 2nd, then we'd only need to give up the 9th pick and Burns to make it happen - right?
-
It'll take a lot more than 2 (1sts), a second and a fifth to move up to #1. A lot more. The Bears likely wouldn't move back as far as #9 anyway. They've gotta be targetting Carter or Anderson, so can't drop out of top 5. If CJ or Young somehow falls to around 4 or 5, then make a move. Still need another pass rusher, TE and ILB. Can't give up a whole draft hoping that a Mahomes is gonna be the prize. Rather solidify 2-4 other glaring holes and work with a vet QB for now. Not ideal, but makes more sense. Anything short of a Mahomes-level QB would be a fail. Too many deficiencies to overcome for a just good QB.
-
I think trade down and grab Maher and a stud WR. Zay may slip because of his size, but he's gonna be a baller. Use some of those CMC picks to come back and get him or Quentin if necessary.
-
Reich shouldn't feel the need to reach for a QB. If Stroud or Young falls in his lap, then pull the trigger. Otherwise go with guys more likely to help the team. Honestly would rather take the next Kuechly, Olsen, or Smitty than a project at QB.
-
Either way you're getting a project QB. Get a super star at a position of need (that actually helps a QB), maintain draft capital, and acquire more upgrades at positions of need.
-
This! If there was a Cam, Luck, Lawrence in this draft I'd be all for it. Giving up important capital just to say you picked a QB high in the draft is not smart to me. Still doesn't solve the problems we have at WR, Center, ILB, TE, Pass rusher, etc.
-
Opportunity cost is a real thing. Giving up all kinds of draft capital to acquire a huge project at QB, when Quentin Johnston is just sitting there at 9 for the taking.

Athletic mock from today Top 6 picks
Navy_football replied to raleigh-panther's topic in Carolina Panthers
I get the sentiment but Hurney was mostly gold with those first picks. Unfortunately everything after that was a$$. I'd hire Hurney for the 1st round, then kick him out of the building for the rest of the draft. -
Even after Cam won league MVP in 2015, it never occurred to Ron/Hurney that we could be an offense-first team. See 2016 draft. First 4 picks were a scramble to replace CB. Not to upgrade the reason they actually lost the SB.

So who are the safe choices? Give me 3 or 4 to investigate please.

Bruh?!! It's too late to run my blood pressure up like this!

Chris Harris was so underrated here. One of my oldest jerseys.

Tepper admits to mistake in hiring Matt Rhule
Navy_football replied to Mr. Scot's topic in Carolina Panthers
Agree. I like the idea that we have an owner that doesn't mind spending for coaching. He fell for the okey doke, but he's learning. I'd rather strike out swinging for the fences than softly hitting in to a 6-4-3. -
2 firsts and a second...

Byron Bell was UNDRAFTED. Nate Chandler was an UNDRAFTED Defensive Tackle. Became a starting RT in the NFL after playing the position for less than 1 year. How does someone do something for less than a year and is allowed to compete against the best in the world at what they do? And he wasn't a good enough athlete to even be drafted. They did Cam so dirty. Should have just drafted Von Miller or JJ Watt if they were gonna ignore the offense.
