It’s becomes tiresome when you spend time on a post, ask questions, and then the reply changes the topic. We went from defining “retread” to arguing something I’m not arguing. I’m on the “improve the QB position” train, regardless of trade/sign/draft. I wanted to point out that “retread” is a blanket statement of negativity towards (in particular) quarterbacks from other teams. And that it’s a poor form to apply the term to both a Sam Darnold and a Carr as if they are the same thing.

“Umm yes he’s the QB” doesn’t cut it. It’s too simple. Team game. And why doesn’t he fit with this roster? A Stafford comparison isn’t silly. Stafford went from disfunction to a team with an offensive plan and he thrived. We may not be as talented as that Rams team, but we have been competitive with absolute liabilities at QB. We have a staff that will know how to run an offense, and we are a playoff team with a competent QB, especially in our trash division. Winning a Super Bowl is hard, so you don’t have to call him Stafford, but Stafford lite is a realistic scenario.

People keep saying “he has 2 winning seasons out of 9”, but can you confidently say that’s his fault?

What’s your definition of “retread”? Additionally, how is the term used in context on this board? (Was “retread” used by Ram fans when they were winning games with Stafford for example) These must be defined in order for a “truth” statement to be arrived at. If we assumed “his team decided to move on” is your definition, then would you consider any free agent or trade acquisition as a “retread”? Even players who you personally like? Or is it, as I assume, a term reserved to talk about players from other teams in a negative light.

S2 Cognitive test points to NFL Success
Wundrbread33 replied to Ricky Spanish's topic in Carolina Panthers
Wonder how good Purdy is at Fortnite. That aside I think it’s incomplete if it’s just a one off test. Probably not an oversight, as doing a 45 minute test 5-10 times is quite the demand for the participants. Very interesting though and thanks for sharing. First thing that popped in my head were those vision reaction tests during eye exams. -
Unless Tremble has turned a corner, or Ricci (who can actually get open and catch) gets more burn…then yes. FA and draft one.

That’s the problem with calling every QB who changes teams a “retread” like they are all the same.

S2 Cognitive test points to NFL Success
Wundrbread33 replied to Ricky Spanish's topic in Carolina Panthers
So is this a reaction time test to visual stimuli? If so, were the subjects tested multiple times on different days or just once? You really need an average score over many testing sessions to gauge each subjects performance. However a test calculating speed while making the correct decision with multiple stimuli in play is a hell of a lot better and relevant than a wonderlic. -
I thought that was the joke.

Todd McShay seems to really like Anthony Richardson
Wundrbread33 replied to Dorian Gray's topic in Carolina Panthers
I agree Jb. Take a chance at coaching the most physically gifted QB prospect. Stay asset rich. Even trading up to 5 or so for their preferred QB I could get on board with, even though what you proposed is still too rich for my blood (I get that’s what it may cost though, especially with a bidding war). I do lean more conservative regarding trades though. I think between Richardson and Corral, you have two guys with NFL traits, Corral possibly more refined at this point, Richardson with a higher ceiling/better frame and surely this staff could develop the future between those two. -
Do we have the personnel to Run a 3-4?

This staff signing/trading for a QB, and Rhule signing/trading for a QB shouldn’t been seen in the same light.

You can draft a QB without giving most of the premium picks of his rookie contract away while doing so. There are more options than “risk it for the biscuit” and “hide in your house” fear. Like mountain climbing is dangerous. You can free climb that mountain (trade up to 1). You can also take action to minimize risk with safety equipment. Free climbing is great for those who don’t slip.

Panthers met with Hooker per report
Wundrbread33 replied to raleigh-panther's topic in Carolina Panthers
Hooker and Corral both have the physical ability to be NFL QB’s. Would just need one of them to have what it takes between the ears. If the option is trade 3 1sts to move up, vs Hooker in the 2nd while adding more premium draft talent to the roster, I’m going option two all day. -
Reich: "It will be a Base 3-4 Scheme"
Wundrbread33 replied to Bear Hands's topic in Carolina Panthers
I’m really not too worried about Chinn. He plays heavy handed with shocking power for his weight. Explosive. That’s what makes him special. His position on paper doesn’t matter so much unless he is forced that way every play. He should be all over. He could line up some plays at edge, inside, or deep safety. Let’s hope we are creative with him. -
I’d rather franchise tag Sam Darnold than give Jones a multi-year $45 mil per. Yikes.

QB options sorted in preference tiers
Wundrbread33 replied to JawnyBlaze's topic in Carolina Panthers
I’m on mobile and this has become a lot of word salad. I agree with some thing you are saying, but the things I mentioned that you can evaluate specifically in the QB, are just base threshold stuff. Like bare minimum things you need your QB to do if the lights are on mentally. These things ensure that the limiting factor isn’t physical. These things DO NOT mean they will be successful. Just that they should be considered. That’s what I meant by that just to clarify. Your opinion is that Stroud is a low risk prospect, very low risk it seems. My opinion is information is way too incomplete to say that confidently. His team is the best on Saturday. We haven’t seen nearly enough adversity/him being uncomfortable back there like he will be on Sundays. He may be fine and there is a lot to like. There seems to be a strong indication that if he has the pocket and talent to throw to, he can perform in ideal situations. That’s a start. I think where we differ, is the amount we are willing to risk to get him based on our opinion of his overall talent level. Im not crying at all if we go into the season with a vet/Stroud/Corral in that QB room. I might cry if we can’t add 1st round talent for the duration of his rookie contract though. -
QB options sorted in preference tiers
Wundrbread33 replied to JawnyBlaze's topic in Carolina Panthers
Well I couldn’t disagree more. This is common thinking with QB’s. It’s understandable too. They are the star, they touch the ball every play, and they are the most watched player because of it. They take all the blame for losses. They get all the glory when things go well. But although they are the most important, much of the blame they catch and the glory they get is an illusion, because… This is the king of team sports. It’s impossible to clearly evaluate a QB in a vacuum. And that’s just regarding on field performance. It’s even harder to predict how their off field lives will impact their career. Much of it is making sure they have enough arm strength to make NFL throws, how accurate are they in a clean pocket/under pressure/on the move. Do they have mobility if you value it. Do they show discipline and leadership. Then you get one and try to surround them with the coaching/pieces to help them succeed. And then they still could suck. Happens all the time. -
QB options sorted in preference tiers

Film would be different because they are different human beings in different situations. Is Stroud/Young’s film so much better to warrant the cost of trading up? I don’t think so. You do. It’s cool. College stats are essentially meaningless. The bad stats like turnovers have some correlation to the league, but who cares about TD’s? It looks nice but scrubs in good offenses put up stats. The concern with Corral (understandably so) is his rehab on the lis franc, and the style of offense in college, and I think his deep accuracy is a question mark regarding consistency. But athleticism, arm strength, short/mid accuracy, release, elusiveness, foot speed, etc…well…I don’t see Stroud and Young as clear talent upgrades. Young is noticeably smaller than Corral. Stroud is a little bigger (thicker). But of course a lot of these guys have physical traits to be NFL QB’s at this point, and the make or break thing is their mental game. And that’s the thing that no one here, and no one in the front office can fully answer. That is just a wait and see and hope thing. -

I think so too. Much more creative. Elusive. Very natural instincts. He does some special things. He seems like a QB1 in a slot corners body. Really the only clear downside to him.
