So you are saying that drafting a QB is completely pointless in the success of a QB? Got it!
-
Kris Jenkins could rush the passer racking up sacks and shut down the inside run. He anchored a DL that prided itself on stopping the run. This DL has no DT anchor. The defense gets gashed up the middle all the time. Gives up yards and first downs. 3rd and long rushing 1st downs has been ridiculous this season with the RB going right up the gut after the opposing OL take advantage of getting Brown out of position. Brown is far from being Kris Jenkins. He is far from even getting an all pro vote. When your team loses you look for anything as an improvement. Even if it is bad for a championship team. Glad to see Brown going from bust to serviceable this season. Will he hold up? I hope so, or he is back to bust level. Anyone with eyes still knows he is inconsistent and a huge target for opposing offenses running the ball. Is he even on the same level as Buckner? I don't think so.

Jones: Tepper now looking for "a young offensive mind"

Mark Brunell is the reason Ben Johnson has looked good. The team that gets Ben Johnson will be disappointed. -
Sean Payton Says Carolina job is Attractive
CPantherKing replied to chknwing's topic in Carolina Panthers
Well, who else said that about available QBs until a better QB comes around? I have been right according to Sean Payton about QBs. Teddy would never be a starter. He is a career backup who can come in and win. Jimmy G can be the starter and win in the playoffs. -
Simple checklist... Can defense consistently get turnovers, tackles for loss, and stops on 3rd down? No. Can the QB produce at least 30% GWD? No. Can the receivers produce 5 big plays per game and catch 60% of their passes? No. Can the OL allow the QB and RB to be patient behind the LoS and develop plays to control the clock? No. Has the HC been able to put their players in close games and make the calls to win more than 50% of those close games? No. That's the. Checklist to be a champion. Coaches like McVay and Bill Walsh prepared their players for championship situations, put their team in a game winning position, and made the key calls/direction to tap into that preparation while making it simple on star players. The catch where Montana throws the ball to Clark for the game winning TD was prepared and Walsh told Montana exactly where and how to throw it before they huddled up to call the play. If players are better than the other team, then they blow them out like a college game. If it's a close game and the game comes down to the final drive, then the play calling and preparation have a greater impact than the even level of talent on the field.

49ers HC Kyle Shanahan on facing Panthers
CPantherKing replied to TheSpecialJuan's topic in Carolina Panthers
So, what you are saying Kyle is if the 49ers simply protect the ball, then they win the game? I agree! Seems like you are just going to copycat the other 4 coaches game plans and reinforce to your team not to be like Jameis Winston and the Saints with a comedy of errors. We'll see you open up the playbook in the last 4 to 8 minutes of the game if trailing, and control 25 minutes of the second half. Brilliant! Expect a low offensive scoring game from the 49ers. Expect the 49ers defense to go for turnovers all day long while following CMC around and taking him away as an option. Tip drills, sack fumbles, jump on the ball when a Panther simply puts it on the ground. That sum up your game plan Kyle? -
His hitch steps are horrible. Result: this throws his timing off with his receivers. He steps to the side and opens his hip to shoulder his throws down field. Result: floated deep balls 5 or more feet off target. He straight legs his throws on the front foot. Result: no knee bend will lead to a flat floated ball. This is lazy footwork from a short QB. Take away his first read. If you are a DL, jump in 1 second if he looks your way for the quick pass that Baker seems to take 80% of the time. There are several drills that can help all of this. Too bad he is unaware of them after all these years in football.
-
CMC, Zylstra, Arnold, and Abdullah were the most reliable route runners and hands on the team last season. CMC is the only one that remains.
-
No doubt in my mind Mark Brunell will be the OC when Ben Johnson gets a HC shot.
-
So, can't get the ball back and can't control the clock. Sounds like Matt Rhule Ball to me.
-
The TEs are who I thought they would be. The problem is Rhule/Fitt and their attempt to force a square peg into a round hole with Thomas. This team would have Hunter Henry, Dan Arnold, and Jelani Woods at TE right now (Also, Andrew Booth CB and Desmond Ridder) if I got my way in the draft. Instead, we got Vernon Butler, CJ Henderson, Tommy Tremble and Sam Darnold while wasting space and time with Thomas and Sullivan. The moves for this team have been disappointing.
-
I saw this coming since 2013 with Gettleman, and I knew Rhule was going to continue the tailspin. This has been in the works since Gettleman chipped away at the team that was built for 2013 and won in spite of him in 2015. A ton of leadership and talent on that team (Gross, Kaill, Wharton, Olsen, Smitty, Cam, DWill, JStew, Tolbert, Johnson, Luke, TD, Anderson, Addison, Captain, Norman, Blackburn, Beason, and Mitchell) was widdled down by 2017. Gone too were Beane and McDermott. In came the new ownership who followed up the Gettleman fiasco with this Rhule implosion. The years of Gettleman and Rhule have left this team with nothing to stand on now. The Panthers had the foundation for a dynasty of 10 to 20 years of success. Yes, it may have been hot and cold until McDermott and Beane took over, but the pieces were all in place. Shows you how 2 really bad decisions on leadership with Gettleman and Rhule can put a team into a 10 to 20 year tailspin. The Panthers do have the pieces in place for a miracle turn around, but they will need one of the best coach/gm combos to pull it off.
-
See, Matt Rhule can't even game plan for a trip to McD... McD Employee: "May I take your order?" Matt Rhule: "1 second! 1 second!"... "Sweet and Sour"... "Dayum it!"

GM: Rob McCartney. He has done a great job at finding talent and organizing the drafts for the Bucs. He fits with Leftwich and can make for an instant culture change. HC: Byron Leftwich. He can set a winning team culture and give players everything they need to elevate their play. He also knows how to work with all types of personalities and get the most out of everyone while knowing how to coach to his teams strengths. OC: Mark Brunell. The real reason for the Lions offensive success. I see a lot of Bill Walsh qualities in this one. I'd plan on elevating him to HC at some point and trading Leftwich. Same thing I wanted to do with McDermott. A team would have traded for Rivera. DC: Johnny Holland. Went from helping to build the Packers in the 90s to finding and developing Demeco Ryans as a player, leader, and now coach. He doesn't take the credit, but you can always see Ryans leaning on Holland.

Whelp he is here for another week.

Rivera was allowed to win 5 games before Tepper fired him. So, Rhule will be fired after he wins his 5th game in 2025. -
There is only one single hope for this team and Matt Rhule's NFL coaching career - the miracle season formula. Vermeil did it with the Rams in 1999. This should have been the strategy used since the offseason. There is nothing to lose now, so time to get started and go all in. The Panthers will need to go to a spread offense and take 50% of their pass attempts down the field with the game plan of running up the score and allowing the speed of their defense to get after the opposing teams QB. The Panthers have one of the best pass catching RBs in the NFL who can change a game in the open field with CMC. They have the H-Back with good hands in Ricci. They have capable TEs to exploit the underneath seams in a deep zone for 30 more targets and 20 catches this season in Thomas and Tremble. They have the WR to scheme open as the 1b/#2 WR in DJ Moore. They have the #3 WR to stretch the field vertically and pull the safeties across the field deep in Robby Anderson. You need a young unknown QB who can sling it from the pocket and shows little to no fear while staying calm. You need a back up RB that can hold onto the ball and spell CMC just enough for 40 more touches in the season. You need a young unknown WR with the ability to make plays and has great hands that can be featured as a #1a and be paired with a #1b as the #2 WR that most defenses will scheme for while letting the unknown receiver find one on one match-ups. You need a vet #4 WR/TE with hands and route running ability that will allow them to get open by exploiting the deep pockets of the zone. I wanted Desmond Ridder, Treylon Burks (1a WR), Ameer Abdullah, and Jarvis Landry (#4 WR) in the offseason to fill these miracle season roles. If I had to go out and fill these roles immediately with the possibility of results, I would go get Aqeel Glass QB, Dai'Jean Dixon 1a WR, David Johnson #2 RB, and Brandon Zylstra #4 WR. (Glass and Dixon have good chemistry and Dixon is a reliable receiver with big hands and playmaking ability.) What would you do as GM to fill these 4 voids and take this drop to your knees hail mary shot at blowing the top off the NFL in the 2022 season? You have nothing to lose and EVERYTHING to gain!
-
Darnold when he had Arnold? Baker doesn't have Arnold. I think you missed that whole receiving TE factor. Thomas and Tremble are not even close to Arnold. Remember when coaches thought Tremble was ready to replace Arnold as the starter? Darnold was targeting Arnold 4 times a game in his 3-0 start. Then came the Arnold trade. Darnold went from a 60% passer to a 40% passer. I'm sure Baker would like to have a receiving TE. Ian Thomas was never it and the front office should feel the pain for that decision. BTW, they both stink. They won't consistently win close games in the 4th quarter when the team falls behind.
-
There are free agent undrafted players from this past draft that are better than Baker, Hubbard, Shi, and Thomas.
-
No Darnold. Just start cycling through undrafted QBs until you find one that can consistently win on plays at the NFL level. give them 3 games each. Not looking for wins. Looking for the ability to win and command a team while coming prepared on Sunday to work the opposing defense. Aqeel Glass, Jack Coan, Kaleb Eleby, Chris Oladokun, Cole Kelley, Chase Garbers, EJ Perry, Carson Strong... Line em up!
-
When will you all start taking my advice? lol Tired of sitting through years of Gettleman and Rhule while I have to watch Beane and McDermott leave. Shut the door on Rhule now! Imagine having Gettleman as GM and Rhule as HC?

Anyone want to post Rhule's updated record when scoring 17 or fewer points in a game? Then explain to me why he keeps up with his game plan to slow play the opposing team and try to win it in the 4th quarter with a QB who will rarely produce a GWD? Opposing coaches are just going to keep rolling out this same game plan until he proves he can be effective in winning a close defensive game in the 4th quarter. -

Tepper's expertise is bankrupting a business and figuring out how to turn it into capital. It shows here as the Panthers owner. -

Nothing is wrong with the Broncos. Derek Carr is going to pull out 3 of every 10 games the Raiders coaches, defense and running game collapse in. The Raiders will have at least 5 wins in the season because they have Derek Carr even if the rest of the team can never control or counter another team in the NFL. -

I keep pointing it out until someone realizes how easy it is to spot a QB who can win in the NFL. Baker is an 18% game winning QB Darnold is an 11% game winning QB Bridgewater is a 19% game winning QB These skills are set in from HS to college reps. They convert to the NFL and will always be lower than what they did in college. 30% is the minimum I will consider. If the QB is on a bad team, I expect 40%. Not that hard to find a QB that can win. Other than that is is coaching and system.
