Carolina Panthers agree to terms with Cam Newton.
OneBadCat replied to Zod's topic in Carolina Panthers
Just stole this from another forum -
Maybe a sprinkle of it but I dont think its necessary. Let's see what Cam can do in the current offense.
-
I respect him for bringing Cam back and that he makes sure this FO is active and trying to get better. He does seem a little temperamental though.

Because the fumble was a nothing burger. He tried to change his direction with the ball. He's 6'5. He couldn't just fall on the ball. Secondly it was one play. How come you don't consider Delhomme's 5 INT game not equally as selfish? Clearly he could have pulled himself from the game. Clearly he didn't care about forcing throws. That game was bullsht anyway. You can't deny that Cam was headhunted the entire game. That Cotchery made the catch. That Denver was offsides on our two missed FG's. Any of those plays going the other way would have changed the game. -
But Joe Brady is still the offensive coordinator

We really don't need to Cam to be all zone read though. That's where we got into trouble in the first place. I'd like to see Cam simply take over Darnolds responsibility and see how much better the offense can run. -
I'm ecstatic to have Cam back. He should have never been cut and he deserved a lot better from this franchise. I really hope it works out. Cam could be really good with these weapons.

I think Tepper made the move out of inexperience. Rhule could have gone either way it sounded like. Marty Hurney wanted to move on from Cam. Joe Brady was a Bridgewater cuck so he wanted his guy. Sounds like it was an all around mistake to me. -

Hope he balls out and we lock him up for 3 years. -

As much as I'd like to see it, it would be a bad PR move. Plus its no guarantee that Luke should get back to where he was. He's lost a lot of muscle. -
I do wonder though. What are the odds that Cam could make Darnold a better QB? Sam is clearly a dude that lacks confidence.
-
I'd prefer not to play him this week so he can have the best preparation possible. But surely to god they can have Cam run at least some of the stuff Darnold's been doing the past few weeks.

Cam in 2015 and 2018 yes is better than Wilson, Matt Ryan, Drew Brees. The only other players I would take would be Rodgers, Brady, and Mahomes. Cam wasn't a dink and dunk stat padder like Drew Brees or Ryan. And we didn't run our offense to let him be that kind of player anyway. We ran the ball on first down more than nearly all teams in the league when Ron was here. If our running game wasn't working we were constantly forcing Cam into 3rd and longs and high pressure miracle throws. Not all too different from the Delhomme days when Jake could force it to Steve. Newton was also the catalyst for the running game getting Stewart, D Will, and Tolbert in favorable match up. When we brought Turner in Cam showed he pad his numbers and his completion percentage. Too much emphasis is being put on the straight numbers. Last year showed us it doesn't matter if your QB can check down if he's not a clutch player and chokes with the game on the line. Cam doesn't have to play QB a certain way to prove anything to anyone. And you really can't blame Cam for running for the short gains, when he knows he himself is a conversion machine and he can't trust the likes of Devin Funchess, Ted Ginn, and Kaelen Clay to catch simple passes.
-
I think your idea of a QB is narrow and you really don't understand Cam's impact and how the offense was ran with him.
-
Let the hate flow through you.
-
If we had him the last 3-4 games I'd say yes. Hard to say if it would be enough to climb back into a playoff spot.
-
Cam at 70% is still drastically better than Darnold. I would agree the offensive line is an issue but I don't think we will running Cam like a battering ram like Rivera did. We will be asking to him to do just a bit more than Darnold did, and honestly that should be enough to win some games.
-
According to you. Basically. "That's not how I would play QB so it doesn't count." You can't knock Cam for using his talents. If Matt Ryan could run like Cam he wouldn't have the same passing numbers either.
-
You gotta believe DJ x2 , CMC, and Burns would love it too.
-
Man I really hope to hear Cam's, "Ready" again in a Panther uniform.

For those who think the REFS rig the game

It's proof enough that the NFL doesn't care about a quality product and a fairer game. Whether the incompetent ref is blowing calls on purpose vs stupidity is irrelevant to the outcome on the field. If the game isn't called fairly it is still essentially cheating. What doesn't help is the good ole boy system in the NFL that caters to authority. Old ass part timers on a power trip don't like it when you yell at them for getting a call wrong. Or how bout when the refs throw make up flags for screwing up the previous play? How about when added the PI challenge?? That was a great idea that was ruined essentially because the officials boycotted the rules and refused to overturn blatantly wrong calls. They don't like being called out for being wrong. That ref in the CHI game was flagrantly being a childish asshole all because he wears a striped jersey. He should be suspended. The game sucks because: A. They aren't trained well enough. B. Essential penalties can't be challenged. C. They are arrogant POS'.
