Not really. Maybe it might finally wake this team up to the fact we should constantly be trying to develop a QB2 into a possible QB1. I've never understood the mentality of this is our number 1 guy and if he gets hurt the season is over. There should always be legitimate QB competition. Getting better should always be the focus. What harm is there in bringing in another guy who might be a better fit for the system? If BY gets hurt, stinks up the field, or just gets beat flat out in the QB race, being better prepared than a geriatric (NFL standars) red rocket is not a bad thing.

I heard yall wanted Bryce to bulk up this offseason
SmokinwithWilly replied to thebdawg's topic in Carolina Panthers
That's all that really matters. Either he's a NFL starting caliber QB or he's not. If he is, great. If not, move on. -
There's only one real solution. Give the team to me.

ProFootballFocus Panthers offseason grade
SmokinwithWilly replied to TheSpecialJuan's topic in Carolina Panthers
Either he’s our guy or he leads us to a high draft pick to try again. Don’t really care at this point as long as we can finally figure out how to win consistently. -
If Cousins leads them to an nfcs berth because of our terrible division, they may not have an opportunity to get another Penix if he’s the kind of QB they want. 1-2 years to get used to NFL speed and develop the way rookie QBs should doesn’t hurt his value or long term plan. I’m not a fan of his injury history, but who are we to judge. We’ve been a revolving door of terrible QB play since 2018. That said. fug the Falcons.

Mingo stat. Lost yards on uncatchable balls

My first thought was at that angle he jumped up because he didn't want to blow both hamstrings trying to awkwardly catch a ball that far behind him. -
I think most of us realize that the NFL has moved to an offense first league. It's what the owners and Vegas want. Whether running or passing is your primary focus, you have to be able to exploit the heavily slanted favoritism towards high powered, high scoring offenses. The days of being able to score 17 and win consistently are long gone. NFL is going to favor the teams that drive the "entertainment" value of the league as well as the betting side.

Panthers ranked as NFL's 2nd-worst roster
SmokinwithWilly replied to TheSpecialJuan's topic in Carolina Panthers
Hard to say for certain whether or not our roster is improved, but i can say for certain, our coaching staff couldn't be much worse than Rhule and Reich. 2 wins isn't a very high bar. -
What we have here is a picture of the landscape of football against the landscape of the field painted with numbers that we've drawn up with a certain number of players who create the image that we see in our offensive landscape.

He's a great fit for that system. He may not have all the talent of the others, but he also doesn't fold under pressure like many of them have.

BREAKING: Panthers signing Rashad Penny
SmokinwithWilly replied to TheSpecialJuan's topic in Carolina Panthers
Only if Penny makes it through TC uninjured. -
So you're saying Tepper and Fitts were a little short sighted?

Jets footage on the trade back from 65

From what I remember it was strategic to lower cap costs since that was pre rookie salary cap. -
Grades are in; how did Panthers do in this years draft

Thomas is never getting cut. He'll be getting a social security check from the Panthers. -
Still think we should have gone center over RB. The weakest position on the line is the shortest route to the QB. We could survive without a new RB. We wont survive if we still dont know if BY is a franchise QB. All offseason was excuse after excuse about the oline not giving enough time and now we’re banking on a guy with 2 major lower body injuries in 2 years, a guy that’s never played center coming off injury, and a c/g that made Michael Jordan look competent. Add in the back up plan is 4 FA centers or a cast off that couldn’t make a roster. What could possibly go wrong? Being certain BY is our franchise QB is more important than a 1 contract RB?.

It also speaks volumes to the impact of a strong offensive line. The Cowboys used to devote a lot of draft picks to their line and every back they had ran over everyone until they left. Demarco Murray cones foremost to mind. Sanders ran behind one of the best lines in Philly. Sweat came in and picked up right where he left off. I love having a great RB, but you have to keep investing in your offensive line to be able to use them to their full potential.

It's not hindsight for another 3 years. We always talk about how we could have done better. It's a way to put your money where your mouth is.
