Higgins or Higgins? I’d rather draft Jayden Higgins in the 2nd, if he’s still there, than trade for Tee. They are nearly identical in height, weight, wingspan, and hand size. Comparing Jayden’s combine to Tee’s pro day, Jayden seems to be the faster and more explosive athlete. He’s also known as a savvy route runner. Plus, we wouldn’t have to pay him near $30mil per year for a while. Tee’s Pro Day:

Demani’s name was flashing in camp last season. Seemed he was getting INTs more than other members of our secondary. Maybe, and hopefully, it wasn’t a fluke.

Panthers agree to 1-year deal with RB Rico Dowdle
ECHornet replied to UNCrules2187's topic in Carolina Panthers
I like this signing. Cheap too unless he has a huge year for us, which in that case we’ll all like it. For those who don’t like it, try and view the $ as potentially a draft pick. Dowdle on a one year, incentivized deal is an attractive trade option for a contender who loses their starting RB to injury. -
He’ll be 30 then. I doubt his market will increase substantially. I love the deal for us. Wish we had locked him in for 3 years at that rate.

The 2024 receiving yards for Ertz would equal ~84% of Tremble’s career yards. Tremble has a ways to go to be that level of ‘meh.’ At least the deal sounds better than on initial reports, as expected. Here’s hoping Tremble hits his incentives.
-
This is my hope. Maybe it seems better once the details come out. Right now, it sounds stupid.
-
That’s ridiculous. I’d much rather have DK if that report is true.

If Wonnum is an OLB in our system, then Stewart could be as well.
-
If we’re going to move Brown to NT, then I see it more. Graham will get swallowed up at NT. He’s under 300lb and only put up 24 reps on bench. Many LBs have done better than that.
-
Give me Stewart over Graham all day. I’ve watched Graham’s highlights, and there are a couple DTs in this draft I’d take over him. Compare hit tape to Derrick Brown’s or Jalen Carter’s college tape. Those guys jump off the film as top 10 interior DL plus had the measurables to boot.
-
Milton seems like more of a pass rushing threat than Brown imo. Brown is a monster at 6’5, 320+. I view him as primarily a run stopper and the stats support that. I just don’t understand why we don’t put him at NT and sure up the middle of our DL.

I posted this article in a couple threads, but I thought it might help some warm up to the idea of drafting Stewart with our first pick. https://www.sbnation.com/2025/2/20/24368685/shemar-stewart-nfl-draft-profile-texas-am So Stewart played at a beefed up 290lb and lined up at 4i for Texas A&M this year. He pretty easily (one offseason) leaned up to 267lb for the combine. People obviously point to his lack of production, and it shouldn’t be ignored. But what would his stats look like if he had played at 270lb as a traditional 4-3 DE or a power rushing OLB this year? Plus, for a team as lacking on the defensive line as we are, I love Stewart’s versatility. He can operate as a strong side OLB on rushing downs and move in to DE on passing downs. Wonnum and Clowney are both under contract one more year here. We need a plan, and I think we could do a lot worse than Stewart.

Silly they don’t establish EDGE as a position. It’s crazy that off ball LBs and EDGE rushers cost the same to franchise tag.
-
Why can’t Derrick Brown play DT?
-
Check this article on Stewart out: https://www.sbnation.com/2025/2/20/24368685/shemar-stewart-nfl-draft-profile-texas-am Sheds some light on why his stats may have suffered while highlighting what makes him a potential elite player in the NFL.
-
I disagree on Stewart. I’d be happy if he’s a Panther. This article does a great job of showing (with photos/video) why Stewart didn’t have elite production, but his explosiveness on the edge will collapse pockets… https://www.sbnation.com/2025/2/20/24368685/shemar-stewart-nfl-draft-profile-texas-am

Contracts are way different and affect the values.

Mayer easily clears Tremble imo. We likely can’t resign Tremble for less than we would be paying Mayer after a trade. Win win in my opinion. Sanders/Mayer TE room is easily our best since Greg.
-
Here’s what we’d be on the hook for the next two years: We won’t find much cheaper options. He’s a pretty perfect compliment to Sanders. He’d be what Ian Thomas was supposed to be all these years. I’m for it. I’d give up a 5th and 6th for him. Those are likely fringe roster spots anyway.
-
He’s on a rookie deal for two more years. Mayer would be a great pairing with Sanders. Mayer is 23yo. We’re rebuilding. It makes a lot of sense.
-
We only have 1 rostered for 2025 that is above practice squad level.
-
He might not go that high bc he quit on his team at halftime. That was him, right? I also love him as a prospect. Wish we could have landed him with our 2nd round pick, but that’s probably out the window now.
-
IF the Panthers front office feels Bryce is the future, of course it makes sense to lock him in for longer and cheaper. IF Bryce’s camp is concerned about his first 1&1/3 years of play making his future uncertain, it could make sense for them to lock in more guaranteed millions.
-
That’s what makes the hypothetical a gamble. Could win big. Could lose big. Personally, I think it’d be worth it to lock him in longer now and get the discount of projecting his growth. He’s 23. In confident by the time he’s 25, we’ll all be on board with him sticking around.

Just getting a read for who thinks he has it and who doesn’t.
