Agreed. Howell is a film junkie and everyone is down on him for no good reasons after 2021 season. Go get him and we’ve had a heck of an off-season.

A homer take would be hoping he’s drafted with #6. It’s not homerism wanting to acquire picks and select Howell where he’s being projected by most evaluators. I see the opposite happening though. ABCers with ridiculous takes like 4th Rd or 0% chance of success. That’s homerism.

He’s not a rook anymore. A second year QB that has been less successful than Trubisky in similar situations. Everyone ragged on Mitch while many here covet Fields. I don’t get it.

They were the same garbage last year. Yes, I’d rather only be locked into subpar QB play for 1 year instead of 3. Why would you prefer the opposite? Hope that Fields improves? Yea, we did that with Darnold.

I am. I prefer to be in our current situation than in one where we’re locked into Fields for 3 more years without Horn. At least there is light at the end of the tunnel with Darnold’s last year under contract here. Fields, to date, is another Darnold and I’m glad we’re not locked into that longer term.

I’ll wait for all of your objective reasons Fields is a better NFL QB than Darnold, and why we would be better off with him for the next 3+ years instead of Darnold for 1 more.

Truth is we’re probably better off with Darnold than Fields. The only thing better with Fields thus far is more excitement bc we’d cling to the hope he could improve. Reality is he looks to be a mediocre or worse NFL QB and we would waste 3+ more years holding onto that hope of improvement. At least we know we need to move on from Darnold. Here’s to finding someone to replace him that puts up numbers twice as good as Fields last year.

Fields is 23 y.o. and Darnold is 24. Fields looks terrible and we all would be ticked we passed on Horn if Fields played like that for us last year.

You’re still wishing for that after Fields’s rookie campaign? I’ll pass until he shows he’s actually a better QB than Darnold. They were pretty comparable (trash) last year.

Give me Jimmy G and here’s why…. If he’s our next QB, it’s likely because he was cut by SF and we’ve signed him for the year or we’ve swapped Darnold for him. That wouldn’t tie us down to someone we’re unsure of or mortgage our future by trading picks. We can still go BPA at #6 and he’d be a nicel bridge to our next (hopeful franchise) QB in ‘23. San Howell in a trade back scenario would be my next pick.

Go back one year and he was QB1 to many. All he did last year was prove he's more of a threat with his legs than previously thought. So....we can get the QB everyone thought was the best of this crop a year ago for a discount because his team struggled last year. Not because he did. Sounds great to me. Everyone yelled "UNC Homers" when we suggested Trubisky would be the best play before last year. Well look how it played out.

I see no way SF cuts Jimmy G. They could pretty easily swap him for Darnold and save cap space on their end. Why cut him outright when you can save money?

My opinion on our choices of replacements… Ioannidis = Jones Horn = Gilmore (considering future contributions here) Luvu/Haynes < Reddick 2022 OL >>> 2021 OL 2022 RB > 2021 RB 2022 S > 2021 S 2022 LB >> 2021 LB (safety acquisition allowing Chinn to play here some) We can’t afford to upgrade every position every year when aging studs don’t factor into future plans. Not upgrading on Reddick/Gilmore is easily offset by the improvements in other position groups which we couldn’t afford if we resigned them all. I feel we’ve chosen correctly to give opportunities to our talented young players, and used free agency to build up groups that have little to no talented young players.

I wish we had gone with my wish before last year and signed Trubisky. The argument for Mitch was more about the money it would take to acquire him and how cheap he would be. Turns out, we could have had Mitch in 2021, 2022, and 2023 for about the same price we're paying Darnold just in 2022. Which would you rather have done? At the very least, we would have had one of the NFL's best backup QBs. I think he'll do well as a Steeler. Trubisky's total cap hit over '21, '22, & '23: $16,785,000 + Zero Draft Picks Darnold's cap hit in '22: $18,858,000 + 2nd,4th,& 6th Rd Picks Ouch
