All-22 Review of the first team offense vs. Houston
WUnderhill replied to Icege's topic in Carolina Panthers
I agree if viewing the preseason through that lens of testing and taking risks when the games don’t matter. Are we doing that or treating these like real games to assess decisions that might be made in real games? My guess is somewhere in between. I wish we had a reporter who would ask questions like that instead of stupid stuff. Like asking Legette over and over about whether his off-season boxing training made him fight. Or how about, hey coach, how do you balance having Idzik calling preseason plays vs using these games as dress rehearsals? Does the fact that you call the plays in the joint practice just like you will in the regular season mean that you are relying on the joint practices to evaluate where your team is at for the regular season more than the preseason games? We have such bad reporters and we’re always guessing at everything. -

“Covered like a wet blanket” “Subpar QB with subpar throw letting all pro db break up the pass” Some definite unbiased educated opinions from the game thread. Must have been a Texans fan. -

I’ve been a Panthers fan long enough to know no matter how obvious it looks, the refs can always find a way to screw us. I’m not losing any sleep over it, but if we’re nitpicking I’d say from my perspective that one might feel better as a throw away. Then again, I also understand swinging for the fences if you think there’s no risk. I’d be curious what conversations the coaches and Bryce have about that one behind closed doors, though I’m sure we’ll never know considering how inconsequential it is. -
He didn’t want to come here, unfortunately. I actually like Canales as a head coach. I think his skills as a play caller/designer have always been overblown. I think he could be a great head coach though if he got better coordinators and gave up control of the playbook/playcalling. Idzik ain’t it, but we kind of always knew that. Unfortunately, really good OCs get hired as HCs really quickly in today’s NFL so it is hard to sustain.

We interact with other fans here, not the team. What does assessing the team have anything to do with any of this. It’s just blaming an outside source for people’s attitudes and behaviors. Idk about you but I’m in control of my own.

All-22 Review of the first team offense vs. Houston

Fair. Still, unless Bryce somehow knew without a shadow of a doubt what the call was, seems risky. -
We need an airing of grievances, like at Festivus. And for all the “just report posts to the mods” I’ll just say my most recent argument was with a mod who was the first one to bring in personal attacks and make it not about football. And I think the last time Igor actually responded to one of these requests to take care of the forum he was pretty apathetic towards the whole idea. So I don’t think upper management cares all that much, which I think is the problem op is having/trying to point out. I will say, I’m not a fan of over modding.

I gotta be honest I don’t love the throwing a really risky ball when the flag comes out during the middle of the play like that. I get it when it is defensive offsides and you get it at the snap and you basically know for sure what the call is. Just seems on this particular play that there was some risk that the flag may not have been for what he thought, or maybe another flag comes in for an offsetting penalty. -
Preseason Panthers v Texans official game day thread

Sounds like a lot of cope. Why don’t you just create another thread for everybody who doesn’t like your shtick? There’s certainly nothing in between disagreeing with super smart edumacated football savant linville gorge and “all sunshine and rainbows”. As we all know, the only educated opinions are yours, and you certainly bear no blame for bringing down the discourse by immediately launching into character attacks instead of just talking like a normal human. Reddit mod level. -

Lol, YOU brought up the QB. All I said was calling that a “contested” catch was letting the TE off the hook for the obvious drop and you start going on about subpar qb this and all pro db that. Jeez if you’re going to try to take this snooty approach of attacking the person and not the argument you should at least try to avoid such obvious lies. Gee I wonder why this place is such a shitshow with mods like this. “That should have been a catch and the TE dropped it” - “Durr cope cope you not educate me know football” -

Placed better than hitting him in stride in the hands…lol. And you talk about the all-pro db thing over and over again like that matters. Does his award last season make the coverage on that play different somehow? We’re looking at a play. Your opinion of the QB, DB, and TE outside of that play does not matter. Did the ball hit the TE in the hands? Yes. Do we expect the TE to make those catches? Yes. Was the coverage good on that play? Maybe average. You’re the only person talking about that coverage like it was something super impressive. Not a hard hit, no restriction of the TEs ability to make the catch. Just a very basic hip tackle after a should be catch. If there’s anything psychological that caused JT to drop that ball because of the db, then that is again on the TE. Why bend over backwards to make that particular play about the QB somehow? Makes no sense. Unless… -

I thought first team was gonna be in for 3 series? That is disappointing. -

Lol when talking bullshit always be sure to say the other person is coping. That wasn’t a pass break up and trying to put any blame on the QB for that particular play is the height of stupidity. -

You need to watch the replay again you are literally making stuff up. That was a very basic catch across the middle and it rarely gets easier than that. DB did not restrict JT at all from making the catch it hit him in the hands and he butter fingered it. -

“Contested” is a very generous term to use for that drop. -

Can’t believe Bryce Young threw it right into Sanders hands and forced him to drop it. What a bum. -
Steve Smith the #8 receiving yds all time, #3 all purpose among WRs, #9 including RBs, #33 TDs, was just recently passed up for HOF in favor of Andre Johnson who trails him in every category, and our own fans will side with the trash media on it just because Smith wasn’t always nice. Every receiver in front of him who is HOF eligible is in. Not a lot of respect there. If you are remembering Cam getting a ton of respect I really wish I had lived in that world. Cam wasn’t even appreciated among our own fan base. A large reason for our lack of respect is our own fans and media. We have been more successful than any other newer franchise not named the Ravens and I remember years ago (before the Tepper losing era) having to argue with our own “fans” on the huddle claiming we were a less respectable franchise than the Jets. Our own local reporters and radio personalities admit that they don’t like the Panthers publicly because it is acceptable. Our own local paper hated Cam and it was acceptable. I’m not saying we should be respected after losing for 7 straight seasons. But until our fans stop kowtowing, self flagellating, and trashing our own team and players because it is the socially accepted norm (and it has been well before Tepper and Bryce Young), I don’t think winning is going to be the cure it is claimed to be.
-
Luke Kuechly is about the only player I can think of that has gotten the respect he deserves/deserved nationally. Otherwise…“Worst 5-0 team of all time…6-0…10-0…etc.” They gave Tennessee Karen air time on espn just to drag Cam. No comeback player award for TD. Peppers wasn’t respected to the level he deserved until he went to Chicago. We had a Super Bowl fixed before our eyes and nobody cared except Panther fans. The league forced our owner out over way less than Robert Kraft and other owners. We were forced to pay a DE on the franchise tag to not play for a whole season while the league kept him and us in limbo and that little rule was never applied that way again. This whole board banded together to vote on a stinking uniform contest just over the blatant disrespect by the media. They like us when we’re the plucky upstarts, that’s about it. I’m not so optimistic that winning has anything to do with the “respect”, or lack thereof, we get.
-
This is a popular take around here, but truth is we didn’t get much respect when we were a good team either.
-
Well yeah but just because it can happen anywhere doesn’t mean I’m going to take them someplace where it is basically 100% going to happen when it is avoidable. And to be clear, it’s not just the language that keeps me from taking them to NFL games, it’s that plus the drunkenness, fighting, etc. We go to baseball games and other sporting events all the time, it’s just unfortunately NFL games that tend to be the worst. Once they’re teenagers we’ll probably go. Edit to add: took one of my kids to get a donut a couple days ago and had to listen to some dude cussing up a storm with his co-workers in the donut shop. It happens. Sucks but it happens. Less and less common decency and respect around these days. I can’t imagine being an adult and being vulgar around a 6 yr old in a donut shop.

Lol hearing those Texans fans is pretty cringey. Gotta love that lady yelling “What the f-“ right after we see a kid’s head in the shot. Not that this behavior is limited to Texans fans, which is why I don’t take my kids to NFL games.

Sporting News: Belichick could be out at UNC before Week 1
WUnderhill replied to Mr. Scot's topic in Huddle Lounge
Only a few more days for these media hacks’ slander to come true. I wonder why they haven’t brought this back up. Could it be they were just butthurt over Belichick ending interviews and not treating them like god’s gift to humanity? Don’t let these self righteous little divas get away with constantly throwing bullshit around and relying on everybody to just forget. -
Did they do that on sports science or mythbusters or something? I’d watch that.
-
Can you imagine somebody gets to where they can kick 80 yarders and we’ve got teams starting on the 35 now. Get the ball at the 35, run, run, run, fg.
