Dillon Johnson showed a combination of speed, power and explosiveness we haven't seen at the RB spot since Stew. Never went down on first contact, decisive in his cuts and turned several 2 yard losses into 3-5 yard games. More importantly, he wanted to be out there. Looked like he actually gave a poo and wasn't just going through the motions during garbage time of the 4th quarter. I would not think twice at putting him on the 53 especially if Brooks starts the season on IR.

Dillon Johnson should make the 53

0% chance he's on the 53. Maybe PS. When he gets outplayed by Lutton in the 4th again even that's going to be unlikely.

Panthers Practice August 12: Compliment Sandwich Edition
SteveSmithTD89 replied to Ricky Spanish's topic in Carolina Panthers
This will be the most enjoyable thread of the year based on the first Mod edit. Corbett concerns me more than Bryce at this point. Dionte Johnson looks like he's going to eat in this offense this year. -
Oh no... who could have ever seen this coming.

Bryce Young won't play in preseason opener
SteveSmithTD89 replied to Carolina Panthers's topic in Carolina Panthers
I'm fine with it preseason week 1. Bryce handing the ball off 3 times and then sitting hardly constitutes "game action" to me. Now, if this continues all preseason it's a problem. Preseason can't "matter" as Canales has said several times and have Bryce and others not suit up as a healthy scratches. I expect at least one game (whichever they deem the regular season warmup) where he plays *at least* a half if not more. That said, it's August 7th, not September 1st. I'm perfectly fine withholding judgement at this time and revisiting after a few more weeks. If the narrative is the same and we don't see Bryce in the preseason I'll grab my pitchforks with the rest of you but seems silly to do so at this juncture for this reason. -
Bryce Young won't play in preseason opener
SteveSmithTD89 replied to Carolina Panthers's topic in Carolina Panthers
This would have some merit... if it wasn't Jack Plummer starting at QB for us. I've been vocal I wanted Stroud over Bryce and dont consider myself a defender of his by any stretch but if you sincerely believe Plummer gives this staff a better opportunity to assess the roster than Bryce does I've got a bridge to sell you. Tomorrow is going to be rough on offense. -
As a Louisville fan, let me ease your concerns, he won't.

5 in the 2 year span you'd originally referenced. The 40+ yarder was part of the ATL fiasco 2 years ago. Last year he made 86% of his FGs and 85% of his XPs. That's good for 22nd and dead last in the NFL respectively. You can say Kicker hasn't been a weakness but it sure as hell hasn't been a strength. Now dude wants to hold out for more money? Good luck on your next venture. Theres a reason he was passed around the league before he landed here.

Don't forget the 5 missed Extra Points. (2nd most in the NFL last year btw)

Aaron Rodgers was sitting behind Brett Favre. He also wasn't on my list. JaMarcus Russell not being able to beat out Josh McCown and Jake Locker not being able to beat out 36 year old Matt Hasselbeck are apples to oranges man. Clausen was atrocious. Up there with Tony Pike, Brian St Pierre and Will Grier where you just knew we had zero chance every single week. I dont feel that way about BY just yet. Like I said originally, dude was bad last year and if he doesn't get substantially better won't be starting this time next year, he at least flashed though. The GB game, the drive in the rain against the Falcons, the drive to ice the Texans. I never saw anything close to that with Clausen. Anyway, we may just agree to disagree man. Have a great day.

I'd argue that not being able to beat out an incumbent starter despite being drafted in the first round could also be quantified as a "bad" rookie season. Still, 12 of those guys played more than 10 games as a rookie. Again, Im not saying hes a world beater here, in fact I'd wager he's more likely than not to be another name on this long list of 1st round busts, but I also don't think he's even close to being the worst rookie QB since 2000. Brandon Weeden - 15 games Josh Rosen 14 games Paxton Lynch - 5 games Kenny Pickett - 13 games Trey Lance - 6 games, starts David Carr- 16 games Joey Harrington - 14 games Patrick Ramsey - 9 games Kyle Boler - 11 games JP Losman - 4 games, no starts Matt Leinart - 12 games JaMarcus Russell - 4 games, 1 start Brady Quinn - 1 game, no starts Josh Freemen - 10 games EJ Manuel - 10 games Jake Locker- 5 games, no starts Johnny Manziel - 5 games, 2 starts Sam Darnold - 13 games Dwayne Haskins - 9 games Zac Wilson - 13 games Mac Jones - 17 games (probably shouldn't be on here, actually had a solid rookie year)

Brandon Weeden Josh Rosen Paxton Lynch Kenny Pickett Trey Lance David Carr Joey Harrington Patrick Ramsey Kyle Boler JP Losman Matt Leinart JaMarcus Russell Brady Quinn Josh Freemen EJ Manuel Jake Locker Johnny Manziel Sam Darnold Dwayne Haskins Zac Wilson Mac Jones Theres 20. That's just the first rounders. Open that up to the 2nd,3rd and 4th rounds the list gets tremendously larger. Hopefully Bryce turns it around in a big way this year but I'm not expecting much. I'd imagine he ends up going down as another name on this list. Here's to hoping I'm wrong.

That's such a hyperbolic statement too. Bryce was straight ass cheeks for probably 93% of last season (and I'm probably being generous) but I could still give you a dozen QBs drafted in the first round since 2000 that were far, far worse than he was. Hell, Pickles was a 2nd rounder, so if the threshold is any round then I honestly don't think BY even cracks the top 5 of *our* worst drafted QBs since 2000.
-
100% would not have been drafted lmao. Dude was terrible. He only got picked up in the portal because Brohm was hired late in the cycle and he knew the offense. He would not, and should not have been drafted. Louisville often times won in spite of him. He has prototypical size. Thats it. Bryce Young has a stronger arm than Jack Plummer.
-
Was so hard to watch. Team often managed to win in spite of him. Hes good for a half dozen missed deep balls, untimely turnovers and at least 1 wide open missed receiver in the end zone per game.
-
Ugh I just can't escape the nightmare that is Jack Plummer. Random fact I can share as a Cards fan this is the 3rd Louisville QB we've had on our roster. Stefan LeFors Hunter Cantwell Jack Plummer He is 1000% the worst of the 3 too.

The Real Reason This Trade is So Bad
SteveSmithTD89 replied to tukafan21's topic in Carolina Panthers
As lackluster as this trade is.... I still make this trade before/instead of the "haul" we got for CMC. This isnt revisionist history. I was very vocal about that. Hated it then. Hate it even more now. Best of luck to Burns in the future but I'm not broken up about losing him. The only upsetting thing about today was Luvu not being re-signed. -
BREAKING: Giants looking to trade for Brian Burns
SteveSmithTD89 replied to TheSpecialJuan's topic in Carolina Panthers
150 for 5? fug that lol 2nd and a 5th? Also fug that. That Rams deal was absurd to pass on then, its more absurd now. Factor in the peanuts we traded the OPOY for and all I gotta say is I hope Fitterrer steps in a puddle wearing a sock every day the rest of his life.- 543 replies

Indifferent. I've been burnt too many times by this franchise. Said I was done after the CMC trade and yet I still stuck around and watched every game. The run at the end of the season gave me a semblance of hope. Trading up to number 1 led to being a prisoner of the moment and relit that little flame of optimism. I spent most of last March-August wearing rose colored homer glasses and huffing copium living in a world I that turned out to be nothing more than delusions. "All Star staff" "Super Processor" "Steph Curry of the NFL" "Doesn't need a number 1 WR because he's a distributor" I've learned over the last 2 years my connection to this team is much more sentimental and emotional due to memories with my dad over the past 20 years rather than any player, coach, GM or even owner. Those memories I'll cherish forever so I'll always be a Carolina Panthers fan, but my days of blind optimism are long gone. They haven't earned that back and frankly don't deserve it. Hope the hire works out. Won't be surprised if it doesn't.

Has to be here for 2 years before we'd get the comp pick. Part of why they're blocking lateral moves for him I'm sure. Hell be retained as DC for whoever we hire if he doesn't get the job.
