We now know he was the right pick. He's confirmed to have good elbows

Tapper also said Marty Hurney was one of the best evaluators of college talent in the league and even specifically stated that he "didn't want to lose him" before firing him around a year later. I've come to a pretty clear understanding that the public speaking version of David Tepper rarely knows what he's talking about, quite commonly says things without thinking and is pretty frequently full of sh-t.

I get a sense this is gonna be a recuring theme

Not buying the "good to great" characterization, but it's a plan
Mr. Scot replied to top dawg's topic in Carolina Panthers
Yeeeeahh...no. Matt Rhule's history suggested to everyone that he'd get a little better in the second year, even better in the third year, and so on. One of the guys who was said to be expecting that second year Improvement was David Tepper. And per reports, he wound up embarrassed and disappointed by last year's results. Truth be told though, Rhule's resume' doesn't actually predict a championship timeline because well...he's never won one. -
Glad to help

The first one's not exactly a mystery, though even less so given that they put his picture in the tweet. This happens so much that Rhule has virtually become the face of the NFL Hot Seat. What's a little surprising is that the article only lists three names total, with the others also having some level of familiarity to us here on The Huddle. Number Two is our old buddy Ron Rivera, currently of the embattled Washington Commanders. Seems a tad early in my mind to be putting him there, but given the organization he's part of I suppose it can be understood.. The third is Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy, perhaps more properly referred to as the assistant head coach since Jerry Jones is always the true head coach...and GM... and...whatever. Not that working for Jerry Jones is ever a very secure position, but these days there's loads of speculation that McCarthy is just keeping the seat warm for Sean Payton. As to Rhule, the article acknowledges that he has a history of guiding college programs to better standing but calls rebuilding the Panthers "a much harder task". Excerpt: He has a 10-23 record in his first two years with the team. Some of the blame can fall on major injuries and certain personnel decisions, but Rhule is still responsible for winning games at the end of the day. Rhule has also dealt with an endless carousel of quarterbacks during his tenure paired, and Christian McCaffrey only playing in 10 games the past two years doesn’t help either. A healthy McCaffrey and consistent quarterback play could have Rhule back on stable ground in no time or another year filled with injuries and losses could put Rhule on the hot seat this season. Truthfully, I find it a little disingenuous to blame some of Rhule's issues on "certain personnel decisions" when it's well known that he has final say on those. Land the "carousel of quarterbacks? Yeah...also pretty much him

If we managed to trade for someone like Davante Adams or Cooper Kupp, would you tell them they need to earn playing time over Robbie Anderson and Terrace Marshall? Making rookies earn their spot is "100% NFL", though even in that case there are frequently exceptions for highly drafted players. Making veterans you signed or traded for feel like they have to begin at the bottom and work to win a starting job over someone they were brought in to replace is kinda silly, especially when it's in a system neither of them has played in before. Granted that as long as it's just drills, it's not necessarily a big deal...yet. But part of the point of having a training camp is so that the guys you expect to be starters can gain chemistry with each other. That means reps...

KC Chiefs hosting Carlos Dunlap for visit
Mr. Scot replied to TheSpecialJuan's topic in Carolina Panthers
Losing out to the Chiefs wouldn't be that depressing to me, honestly. -
You'll have to excuse me. I've recently read other posts from people unfamiliar with roster updates, so...

And over in Detroit...

Meanwhile in Pittsburgh...

Except when it came to bad haircuts...

Hadn't heard of that one. Yeah that's kinda dumb. No rationale for it. Not like Bozeman's a rookie or Elflein is already established in the system. Frankly, it sounds like something a college coach would do
-
Potentially just a tad exaggerated given that it's only a drill, but I do see what he means.

I do disagree somewhat with making Ekwonu start at the bottom. Hell, I'm pretty sure Jordan Gross took some early LT starter reps even though he didn't end up playing there his rookie season. Mind you, he got his ass handed to him by Julius Peppers, but hey that's how it works in the pros.

That'd be a little tricky with Abdullah being a Raider
-
I'd be one of the last people you'll ever find defending Matt Rhule, but rolling with Darnold first isn't exactly surprising. Small though the margin may be, he is still the one with the most reps in this offense so far. My understanding is they'll flip it and have Mayfield running with the starters next time.

Well, there's an effective strategy for stopping people from calling you a sh-tty owner. I'm sure we'll all be saying much nicer things about him very soon
