  1. If the feeling was that Richardson wouldn’t make it to our spot and ALL the other ones are gone, I think they would trade up a few spots to get him. I don’t think we will not draft a QB in the 1st round, no matter what happens this season. I don’t see Hooker going 1st round due to scheme/age, maybe second-third round.
  2. Lol this division is so bad right now that it may be impossible to tank it now since Brady finally has given in to Father Time.
  3. Nope, they were just that bad. Fired Marvin Lewis and hired Zac Taylor. Dalton was terrible and they started 0-11 that year. That was when everyone thought Chase Young would be the #1 pick. Burrow wasn’t talked about at that point as the hands down #1 pick until after LSU beat Clemson in the NC game if memory serves me correct.
  4. Levis is running a variation of the McVay/Shanahan offense. His OC's for the past two years come from the Rams and 49ers (Liam Cohen, Rich Scangarello). Him and Young (Bill O'Brien) have NFL guys calling plays out of NFL playbooks.
  5. I think about the 2002 and 2011 and realized we went opposite directions in terms of the draft and got to the same result. In the '02 draft, it was David Carr (the franchise, can't miss QB prospect that happens every draft season) that went at 1 and we had to choose to get either Peppers (BPA) or Joey Harrington (need & the number 2 QB prospect). That time, we went best player available and took Peppers 1st, Foster in the 2nd, Will Witherspoon in the 3rd, and Dante Wesley in the 4th. Two years later, we were in the Super Bowl, and all those picks mentioned were a factor in getting there. In 2011, we went with need instead of perceived BPA Cam instead of Von Miller, 4 years later, we were in the Super Bowl. No player outside of Cam drafted in 2011 by us was a factor, but Cam was a supernova that year. We don't have to tank to get the best players in a draft if we do the scouting and make the right picks (staying put, moving up, moving down, that's the part TBD based off the rest of the year). The CMC trade is a good thing overall, now we just have to nail the picks we have in the upcoming draft, regardless of the spot. Pick a direction with the new coach and get what you need to make their vision reality.
  6. We can get to 50+ million in cap space if necessary so we could play in FA in the offseason with the new coach, plus the picks.
  7. Miami and Mike Gesicki come on down lol
  8. Agreed. It should've been burnt to the ground the moment they decided to move on from Cam after 2019.
  9. This, unfortunately is true for the moment. We have no true stars for the first time in a long time.
  10. I hate Paul Finebaum, and I hate Madden. Been older a lot longer than I’ve been younger. I know emotions are high for a lot of people tonight who love CMC and didn’t want to see him go/wanted more in draft compensation. To be honest, part of me wishes we had kept him at least one more season. This trade was probably the most we were ever going to get from him at this stage of his career. My phone has been blowing up from 49ers fans who are PISSED because they gave up those pics for McCaffrey when they need offensive and defensive lineman. Same thing being said for their message boards and Twitter/FB/Instagram pages. It may not feel like it, but we fleeced them all thing considered. I know everyone will agree it’s gonna suck to watch this team for the rest of the season (and it was already bad with McAdoo’s BS offense).
  11. Yeah most of the NFL world is shocked we got as much as we did.
  12. You love him as a player. I do too. However, why would we continue to waste his prime when we were not going to be good for at least 2 years? A QB at one was not going to bring back the old McCaffery, and make the offense top 5-10. The best thing you can do sometimes to something you respect is to let them go. (I honestly think that's why it was SF.) We may never see a Christian McCaffery here again. In todays game however, we don't need to invest that type of money in the RB position ever again. The history of this franchise is rife with bandaid fixes, trying to milk the talent of one player to the detriment of the team long-term (Cam Newton and never getting an O-Line and WR's), long-term thinking that we're one player away (2003-2009), one coach away (Firing Rivera for Rhule). We got two SB trips out of these practices, but its also why we never had consecutive winning seasons because we always seem to be overpaying at the wrong positions. This team needed to be torn down and rebuilt for long term purposes. It sucks to lose him, but I'm actually glad that we got more draft capital than I was expecting to get and he gets to go play somewhere where he wants to be.
  13. You speak of McCaffery as if he is a HOF player. He is not. He is a great player who is injury prone and has already lost half a step due to his injuries. Why would we want Trey Lance? That's adding cap when we're trying to shed it for the future. This trade doesn't guarantee that the 49ers are going to be the top of the division. They may still miss out on the playoffs.
  14. Fooling themselves. Finally tearing it down to the bolts like it should've been years ago once Cam was leaving.
  15. Who was going to give it? We can wish all we want, but if a contending team saw him as the true missing piece, they would've coughed the 1st up a long time ago to get him, either in the offseason or early on this year with their offense struggling. I think people got delusional, CMC is great but is oft injured. The 49ers basically opted out of the 2023 NFL Draft, to our benefit. How is that a loss? Holding onto him for the sake of holding on to him because no one would give us a first is a fireable offense as well. That is the sunk cost fallacy that a lot of people seem to have on the board tonight. This trade makes us better in the long term. They're tanking the season, and to make us look good for future coaches, we need draft capital and young players. We had one but not the other. Now with one trade, we have both. It's not over either, there will be more moves.
  16. Brown is improving and still young, so I’d keep him unless someone is sending us a first this year. CMC same deal. We do FA and the draft right this offseason, and a lot of things can change quickly.
  17. There is no similarities between Cam and Herndon Hooker in college except the fact that they are black QB’s. Herndon’s situation actually is more similar to Weinke and Weeden in that they are older QB’s beating up on 18-21 year old kids. There is NO way that we should consider Hooker at all with our 1st round pick. He’s a 3rd-4th pick based on his body of work, skill set, and other factors (age, scheme versatility, mechanics, footwork, tools, ceiling). Levis, Young, or Stroud are the only choices if we are looking QB at the top of the draft (and I’m on the fence about Levis, because he will be 24 before his rookie year).
  18. LSU historically has not been a QB factory, favoring a more ground and pound approach on the field. Known more for the RB’s that they have put into the league, they do have notable QB’s like HOF Y.A. Tittle, Bert Jones, lesser known NFL backup QB’s like Matt Flynn, Zach Mettenburger, Danny Etling and a few others who were in the league for a cup of coffee. Recently, they had success with Joe Burrow, who went there from Ohio State, and had 3 NFL WR’s (Jefferson, Chase, TMJ) running the Saints playbook that Joe Brady brought from NO and Steve Esminger calling the plays. Struggled since Burrow left, not able to play at the same level, currently under Brian Kelly, who is not known as a QB guru or developer.
  19. It’s not about scouting the helmet. That school has never put a QB in the league that was actually true starter material (Fields is not a starter, the Bears would’ve already benched him if they didn’t fear the backlash). It would be irresponsible to not pay attention to the history with that school and it’s QB products in the NFL. Dwayne Haskins had every bit of arm talent and tools that Stroud is currently displaying, threw 50 TD’s one season, and never panned out once he had to go into a pro scheme(RIP). Neither did JT Barrett, Cardale Jones, Braxton Miller, etc. They run a wide open system that looks great for numbers because all the top WR’s go there to play so its big windows and speed everywhere. They out talent everyone in the BIG 10 at the skill positions and that’s why the QB’s look good. Not saying it isn’t possible that he can be good, but I would trade down a few spots with someone that wants him, and get Levis/Young and additional picks.
  20. It matters because the system that Ryan Day runs makes QB’s look better than they are. They are notorious for busting. I don’t think there’s ever been a successful NFL QB from Ohio St. in the NFL
  21. Hurts seems on a good path, Tua was trending up this year with some weapons but got hurt, but that’s also why I have reservations about Bryce due to size. Before that, it was Stone Age football so not much to look at.
  22. If Tomlin and the Steelers part ways this offseason, book him a trip to Charlotte.
  23. I’m wary of all OSU QB’s. They look like world beaters in college and crash out in the NFL. I would honestly look in a different direction or trade down just a little bit to someone that falls in love with Stroud to recoup draft capital and take a different QB.
