2021 Carolina Panther's draft picks
Waldo replied to DaveThePanther2008's topic in Carolina Panthers
There wasn't one of those QBs in this draft tho and I am thrilled they didn't force it. Also LT is next after QB. If Ickey hits that is a huge hit for us. Much more than a CB, WR or DE. IDK, when it's bad take what you can ehen you can. Hurney taught us all that. We need those kinds of drafts but we also need a staff able to use them to their maximum. Not feeling that here anyways. I honestly can't talk about the top for the Panthets at the moment, just doesn't seem realistic on any level. I'm expecting 6 wins this year regardless what else we do. I would be thrilled for a great draft but we also have other problems. -
2021 Carolina Panther's draft picks
Waldo replied to DaveThePanther2008's topic in Carolina Panthers
After thinking about it I realized that I had already discounted this draft on the waste of the Sam trade last year. I was looking at it as something from the ashes with Ickey, especially with the Pickett talk all offseason. The win for me was getting a starter in this draft when we could have had none at all. Good time in Panther land lol. Just brutal -
Win-win for me. If he bust then we get closer to firing Rhule, if he does decent we got a good backup and if he balls out we got a starting QB. If fine with all that. I have tampered expectations gor Corral and I'm expecting the middle one. It wouldn't take much to be a more playable QB than Sam. Maybe that still gets Rhule fired and that is where I am happy to put my hope into right now.

2021 Carolina Panther's draft picks
Waldo replied to DaveThePanther2008's topic in Carolina Panthers
Naw. It would be muddied if Ickey hits but we busted on Sam's wasted picks and Corral isn't good enough to be at least a backup. That is the floor for Corral, can he at least be a backup? A franchise LT and a backup QB isn't bad with a busted 2nd+. Add in Henderson and it's all over the place, not good but also not horrendous. I think you are placing the desperation of the Panthers situation onto the draft. If we had a shot at a high chance franchise QB I could more agree with you but with what was on the table it's wouldn't be a complete failure if Corral busts out. I just can't ask a 3rd round QB to be more than a backup but I will be thrilled with anything beyond that. -
2021 Carolina Panther's draft picks

1st part absolutely. Their just isn't a discussion without the injury angle. Not close. Yeah it wasn't as good as some of the hype we heard around here but that is the same old same old around here. I think at least 1 steps up with the potential that is there. No idea who at this point. My hope/desperation is on Teremble. I'm not saying jack about Horn...no jinxes from me. I can't put too much on Corral yet. Doesn't seem fair...yet. Just run the damn ball and everything else at least gets easier on that side this year. I just have low expectations again this year. Slight improvements but the weaknesses will be on display again. -
Sigh. (It hurts when you see it pointed out like that)

2021 Carolina Panther's draft picks

Meh, some promise but at this point not looking great. Outside of Horn it's very blah overall and he needs ro stay healthy this year. I'm glad we didn't do quantity over quality again this year. Will BC make a big jump? I hope so. Can Tremble beat out Thomas who has done so little with his potential to date? Hubbard is set up for a chance to improve with a run heavy offense and the inevitable at that position. Marshall even show up this year? I hope so. Not a great draft so far. Still has time but there is a lot that needs to happen for it to not be a 'not good' one. If you factor in when CMC goes to IR it is kind of true in a fall into it in a backwards way. -
I would hate to be the defender coming up on him from the secondary. He doesn't look to let those guys slide bye lol
-
I love that he can take on big guys in the trenches or hit LBers and DBs on the run. Ickey / Motton bookends is a strong combo. There will be holding calls and false starts as with any rookie but damn it's going to be fun watching him wreck grown men.

There certainly is a nice overflow into the hospitality industry, hotels and some recoup of tax money in the process but it's not like most of those jobs are more than seasonal, part time and low wages that are directly tied to the Panther's game day experience. IDK what the correct formula would be to entice business but without being a deals that is just robbing the taxpayers. Hey maybe a sweet deal with some profit kickback to the tax system...lol JK that would never happen. Too bad the cities can't get an investment angle on these deals.
-
I agree and it is certainly not a done deal overall but it's hard to listen to him talk about a new stadium and he still hasn't got his HQ done as a fan. It's absolutely better for Tepper because it's just more leverage to pull out of the area if sides don't start doing what he needs. If Rock Hill facilities were open then we would be talking where in the local area and not still possible relocation overall. I 100% agree on the last part, no illusions. Just not a fan of publicly overspending to the wealthiest, I get and can support deal sweeteners as a basic part of business but fug beyond that. Too many needy people out there to keep helping those that are way beyond helping themselves. That poo is just wealth consolidation in the form of corporate welfare.

Chris Simms - Matt Corral is the top QB of the draft class

https://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2022/05/07/pete-carroll-drew-lock-would-have-been-the-first-quarterback-picked-in-this-years-draft/ I'm looking forward to seeing him this year but I am not going to get overhyped or fanatical about it all. It's just not fair to put that on the kid at this point. I am very excited to not be thinking about Sam or PJ. Either way, everything else is a bonus to me at this point. -
Play Ickey at LT you say...

Hopefully the run game on the offense will be the best addition to the defense this year. The D looks solid and has a lot of potential but it could also not live up to last years unit with the gains vs losses in personnel. We will see. Lots of young guys that could step up.

Correct team structure has started. Now what?
Waldo replied to lightsout's topic in Carolina Panthers
It is so much of a better spot than we could have done with a Watson trade or even Picket in the 1st. It is a really good spot to build from, IMO the best option of the 3 by far. There has been some additions and some subtractions, in the end I think we gained long term but I don't know if the D will be as good or better than last year. That would require more than 1 player to improve a lot from where they were last year. That is just what I see, lots of upside but not production...yet. Happy to see what happens. No more blah vet QBs or old and injured prone LTs (or Erving who was just plain bad). Huge step forward. -
I never wanted Watson and I am super excited about Ickey and look forward to seeing Corral this year at some point.
