The decision making from the broncos and panthers has been pretty bad the past few years. Not sure it’s a great sign that we are both after the same guy.

Feels like the Watson race all over again.

Yeah, from what I heard Daboll did the heavy lifting developing Allen. Allen has not progressed under Dorsey.

If he wasn’t on our staff, would we want to interview him? Nope.

Trading for Sean Payton vs Settling for Steve Wilks
Tbe replied to Sean Payton's Vicodin's topic in Carolina Panthers
If Wilks wasn’t the interim coach, we wouldn’t even give him an interview.- 57 replies

We need a guy who can develop a young QB. That’s not who Wilks is.
-
I can see both sides of it. Denver has money, a great defense, and a Super Bowl winning QB that needs a better system. We have an ok defense, a great OL, a weak division, cap space, and the ability for him to get any QB he wants (similar to when he took the saints job). I think he wants money PLUS legacy. He wants another ring to cement himself as one of the best and he wants a team that will get him there soon. If you believe the rumors that he had a falling out with Saints ownership, then maybe he wants to be in this division.
-
Then Payton knows he got all he can out of Denver and accepts their job. He knows how bad Tepper wants him so it’s a good play to TRY and get a bidding war going between those two teams.
-
He can come back Friday and say ‘Tepper offered this much. Can you match it?’ Basic job salary negotiation.

Roman Harper thinks Sean Payton could be our next HC now
Tbe replied to ncfan's topic in Carolina Panthers
I kinda think the same thing. That or he’s using Tepper to get more from Denver. If he doesn’t come here, you know everything they discussed in the interview will go straight to Loomis. -
I still think Denver is the play and Payton is just using Tepper to drive up his salary asking price.
-
They didn’t just turn us down.

It’s hard to believe, but there is soooooo much smoke here. Candidates pulling out left and right. DC candidates are already being interviewed. Something is afoot. -
Payton has been linked to Tepper since training camp. Remember people asking Rhule about it?

Lol at the extra ‘completely’ for Rhule. -

Here’s the deal. Payton is going to coach another 5 years max. If he comes here, he is going to bet the future on a championship. All or nothing. Just the way Tepper likes it. -
1/17 Athletic/Brugler Mock: Panthers Trade Up
Tbe replied to Bear Hands's topic in Carolina Panthers
Bryce is 13 lbs lighter than Murray was and 20 lbs lighter than Baker was on draft night. Bryce is taller than those guys but much more ‘slight in frame’. That’s where the injury fears come from. Matt Corral is 6’1” and 212lbs. Bryce is 6” and 195. Since most college w/h stats are inflated, he’s probably around his high school listing of 5’11 185 Not saying he will fall, but I wouldn’t be surprised if he does. -

Good chance Young falls because of his size. -
It would be the McCaffrey load of picks correct? Makes you wonder if this was a reason for the trade.
-
Yep.
-
The guy is guaranteed to go in the first. So it’s $5 mil to stay or 10-30 mil to get drafted.
-
Top 5 draft pick contracts are $30 to $37m with 20-25m signing bonuses. NIL isn’t touching that yet.
-
Very true. However, it’s easy to avoid a team you don’t like. Just blow the interview. Give bad answers, insult the coach, talk about how much you like massages, or standing outside schools watching kids play. It’s not hard.

Only one playoff team in the NFC had/has a 1st round draft choice at QB.
Tbe replied to SCO96's topic in Carolina Panthers
This is the 3rd thread on this exact topic. Finding an Elite player in the draft is a lot of luck BUT the odds are much higher when you draft first round talent. The data on that is clear as day. Guys drafted in the first TYPICALLY have higher levels of arm talent and better game film. Hence why teams gave them a first round grade in the first place. Are there guys who would be great if given a chance like Purdy? Absolutely, but the overwhelming majority of 7th round QBs would get their coaches fired. There is no magic formula. Get the guy you think has IT regardless of the round.
