Monday Panthers Practice - Pads go on today!
Ricky Spanish replied to Zod's topic in Carolina Panthers
I'm not kidding when I say Bluey is one of my favorite shows. I both laugh and tear up while watching it. It is so damn good. Bandit is who all dads should aspire to be. -

This is partly my fault, I'll own it, but no more Musk/twitter/x talk from now on -
Cam said it himself: https://www.foxsports.com/stories/nfl/cam-newton-says-half-the-time-he-calls-plays-wrong-and-teammates-correct-him That came out when Cam won MVP. He just had that Brett Favre football savant poo going on where he didn't need to know every detail.

He's not though. At the risk of de-railing this thread, He hasn't built anything, he just buys his way into getting credit. He didn't make paypal, someone else did, he didn't design anything for tesla, two other guys did, his vegas tunnel is a shitshow that is pointless and stupid, and then he bought twitter, ran it into the ground, and is trying to rebrand it as 'X' for some edgelord 14 year old reason. His father owned an emerald mine so he didn't even get started on his own. He is worse than Steve Jobs in terms of taking credit for other people's work. ***As of Page 4, Musk talk is over, sorry you missed your chance. Stay on the TC update rails.***- 197 replies

I'm really hoping he steps it up this year but I'm not holding my breath. He had wilks as a DB Coach last year and did not improve, so I don't know if this staff will be able to unlock his potential either. Then again, the scheme could be a better fit, but we'll see.

Patricia was a terrible coach and a dickhead to everyone. He still had a better win percentage than Rhule did. .314 to Rhule's .289

I lived in McKinney (suburb of Dallas) when I was a kid in the 90s during their peak as a franchise. We moved down there from Maryland where my entire family were Redskins fans. I did not fit in. We didn't have wear your favorite sports team day, we had wear your cowboys gear day. They didn't read us children's books, they read us books about Cowboys players when they were children. There were so many kids in the area named after players/the area I knew like 4 kids named Dallas alone. I apparently met Roger Staubach at some event while decked out in Redskins gear that my dad put me in on purpose. They wouldn't take a picture with me next to him. It's a Cult down there.

To those who wanted us to hire Sean Payton...
Ricky Spanish replied to Mr. Scot's topic in Carolina Panthers
It's crazy how similar he is to Mike McCarthy when the narrative surrounding both is completely different: McCarthy: 16 years HC 1 Super Bowl with Generational QB 155-97-2 Record (.614) 11-10 Playoffs (.524) Payton: 15 Years HC 1 Super Bowl with Generational QB 152-89 Record (.631) 9-8 Playoffs (.529)- 54 replies

That trade for Okung was about as lose lose as you can get. He never really lived up to that second contract he got with us, declined each year after he got paid.

Did we get hoodwinked on Miles Sanders
Ricky Spanish replied to TheBigKat's topic in Carolina Panthers
At absolute worst, it's a minor overpay. Not even worth complaining about. Cmcs contract was worth complaining about. DeAngelo williams contract was worth complaining about. Robbie Anderson's was worth complaining about. Charles Johnson's was worth complaining about. -
Interesting that they have Shenault as #3 over TMJ.
-
This entire discourse reminds me of Charles Johnson back in 09/10 or whenever that contract happened. He got a contract that reset the entire pass rusher market and he wasn't as good as Burns is at this point in their careers respectively. He didn't quite live up to that contract but he was never a true liability while he was making that money. I expect something similar to happen with Burns contract-wise, but I think Burns takes it up another notch in his play simply because he's been hamstrung by scheme in his recent years. We'll see.

I had the same thoughts, but I'm willing to give this guy some grace. He put out an hour and a half breakdown of our team broken down by coaching staff, departures, additions, and position group and the most egregious mistakes were saying Wilks went to Denver, Campen was a new addition, and our backup guard was a backup tackle. The Ickey Eval is just a difference of opinion. He does this for 31 other teams. Mistakes will happen, and even the ones he made weren't even that bad. Talking heads on networks spout out far more dumb takes about NFL teams than this in a fraction of the time. Our team will rise or fall based on how Bryce plays. We have a lot of solid but not great players right now, which is why we are ranked where we are, but overall I think we have the best all around team in the division.

He also brought in Michael Oher who was fantastic for us but his brain got scrambled so he had to retire. That lead to Matt Kalil, which lead to his ultimate demise as GM. Also Norwell. Dude brought in guys but his northern demeanor did not mesh well with our southern business. I know people are clowning on those who supported him and I won't pretend that I wasn't one of them - but I still believe that Gettleman was a better overall GM than Hurney. Hurney did literally only one thing well, and that was draft first round talent. Gettleman was hamstrung at the beginning of his tenure by Hurney (and Richardson's) horrible cap management and boneheaded decisions. He did well his first few drafts, then completely tanked 2016, then knocked 2017's out of the park, but by that time he seemed to have burned every bridge in the building so he was shitcanned. Is he necessarily a GOOD GM? No. But he was better than Hurney. The fact he had as many winning seasons and more playoff appearances in 5 years as Hurney did in 15 shows he was more competent. He was a prick though. No arguments there.

He's talked about it before. Cam Came in as a young guy and was kind of handed the reigns of the franchise, whereas Steve felt he had to work his ass off to earn that. He also talked about how they were just at completely different points in their lives, Cam was a young single 20's guy, Steve was an Early 30's guy with a family so there wasn't a lot of overlap in terms of interest.

Didn't even really get into his best shittalking moments. "Ice up son" "Put my momma out there and I'll beat her like a drum too" "If I see him on the street I'll bust him in the fuging mouth" So on and so forth.
