Makes sense for both leagues, IMO. There's just not enough interest - to say nothing of decent players - to support two spring leagues.

Generally I'd agree, but getting a known quantity for a 3rd round pick is a pretty safe move if it's actually on the table. Unlike giving up a 3rd rounder for C.J. Henderson, who hadn't shown much in Jacksonville and we acquired based on untapped potential. I'm not as big a Jerry Juedy fan as some here, but he's a solid player and 3rd round picks are pretty overrated in terms of your chances of actually drafting an impact player.

If we can't run the ball any better than last week it'll look something like this: 73/123, 443 yards, 1TD, 1 INT

For a 3rd? Absolutely.

NFL executives give Bryce Young early grade

Michael Vick in his prime couldn't escape all the pressures Bryce has dealt with. -
NFL executives give Bryce Young early grade

These assessments match my own almost exactly. It's refreshing to read some actual logical and well thought out takes on Bryce for once instead of "he's small and can't throw 5 yards! BUST!!!" after 2 games. -
That's my point; those picks can be great players, good players, or busts. Either way you have to hit on your picks outside the 1st round to be successful. If we still had our 1st rounder next year and ended up drafting a stud with it that's great, but if we keep missing on all these picks outside the 1st round it likely won't matter much in the long run.

I agree in a sense. I hate today's dink-and-dunk approach, but that cuts both ways. Back in the day (I'm talking farther back than the 2000s) it wasn't uncommon to see QBs with completion percentages around 50% because 1) defenses could get away with a LOT more, and 2) offenses were looking to get chunk plays when they threw the ball, not 4-5 yards on a screen pass. It's just the evolution of the game. I'm sure in 30 years they'll be complaining about something else. Just the way it is.

D.J. Moore might have been worth a 1st in terms of trade value, but what was his real value to us on the field with Sam Darnold and P.J. Walker throwing to him? And two 2nds can also be equal to YGM and Terrace Marshall, Jr. Picks are only as valuable as the players you use them on. It's about building a team, not a collection of draft picks. There are ways to add talent without a 1st round pick. We can trade up, trade for a player, sign free agents, etc. Those moves better work out, yes, but that would be just as true if we had drafted our QB at #9 and still had our 1st next year.

The 49ers gave up three 1sts + a 3rd to move up to #3 overall to take Trey Lance. The Browns gave up three 1sts + a 3rd + two 4ths for Deshaun Watson, who was being accused of rape at the time. So yeah, compared to those deals I'd say we gave up considerably less. The fact is any deal like this is going to depend entirely on how the QB drafted turns out. If Bryce ends up being as good as his potential then nobody will care what we gave up to get him; if he busts we'll be talking about it for years. But that doesn't change the fact that not having a 1st round pick next year (or D.J. Moore) means we're somehow crippled in our ability to improve the team around Bryce Young. BTW, those picks the 49ers gave up was for a guy they just traded away for a 4th rounder to Dallas. Last time I checked the 49ers are doing just fine despite giving up those picks AND missing on the QB they drafted. The trade was a risk, not a death sentence.

This is nonsense. I don't think people here realize just how little we actually gave up to get the #1 pick compared to what it could have cost. Just look at what the 49ers gave up to get the #3 pick that they took Trey Lance with. Or what the Browns gave up for Deshaun Watson. Compared to that we gave up peanuts. We essentially have a full slate of draft picks next year minus our 1st rounder; teams trade 1st round picks all the time and aren't severely limited for years to come because of it. Yes, we have to do well in free agency and the draft for this to work out; welcome to professional football. That would be true regardless. One above average WR and one 1st round pick does not equate to mortgaging the franchise.

Many say they've seen Bigfoot, too.

Former UVA quarterback Bryce Perkins works out for Panthers
Jay Roosevelt replied to Dorian Gray's topic in Carolina Panthers
@ the conspiracy theories in this thread because we worked out a QB because the Saints signed our practice squad guy. -
You mean Reich isn't planning on benching Dalton and Young for Bryce Perkins? Shocker.

Even more pressure numbers (not for the weak stomach)
Jay Roosevelt replied to ncfan's topic in Carolina Panthers
He threw the ball 342 times; he should be piling up yards. That doesn't equate to any kind of efficiency on offense. And it's not going to until we can get more than 1.5 YPC on the ground. -
Where does this nonsense about Bryce's arm come from? He's got PLENTY of arm strength. Is he Josh Allen or Patrick Mahomes? No. But neither is anyone else! Arm strength is not a limitation on Bryce's game. I swear some of y'all are acting downright ignorant about him.

Bengals wouldn't pay Burns.

This. We supposedly hired an "all-star" coaching staff and had finally "fixed" the OL. We knew we would be thin at WR, but figured the offense would be at least functional with what we have. Turns out the coaching staff isn't such an "all-star" group after all and the OL has been a disaster due to a complete lack of any passable depth. I also thought that pre-draft; now I wonder if ANY of them would be able to overcome this mess.
-
So let me get this straight... Dalton starts and we lose by more than we did last week but because he put up better numbers against the worst defense we've faced all year we should start him over Bryce? Please. Let me be clear, though; I'm not against sitting Bryce at this point because the way this OL is playing he's liable to get killed and/or completely ruined. Bryce is as pro-ready as advertised, IMO. This coaching staff and the team around him? Not so much.

PFF grades after week 3 (not for the faint of heart)
Jay Roosevelt replied to Cdparr7's topic in Carolina Panthers
Last I checked Andrew Norwell was still available. -
I love how everyone has just decided that Bryce Young is a bust after 2 games when it's clear the team overall is a complete mess right now. If he were in the exact same spot but was 6'5 and 240 he'd still be the future of the team, but because he's not Cam Newton 2.0 a large portion of the fan base has already decided he's a bust. My concern isn't that Bryce is a bust, but that this clusterfug of an organization is going to ruin him before we ever have a chance to find out what he is.

PFF grades after week 3 (not for the faint of heart)
Jay Roosevelt replied to Cdparr7's topic in Carolina Panthers
Might want to put him on the bench where he belongs. He's just not ready. Is a 4th round rookie who missed most of camp really the best we've got for OL depth? -
I can't fathom why we haven't gone out and signed some veteran depth for the OL. We knew we were short handed with Corbett out; why don't we have something better to field than this mess? Zavala clearly isn't ready and Cade Mays is hot garbage.

Easily the worst game of Ickey's career so far.
