  1. https://www.nbcchicago.com/news/local/could-bears-trade-no-1-pick-to-panthers-for-brian-burns/3068604/?amp=1 @rebelrouserposted this in the draft forum. It’s definitely interesting…
  2. IF and I mean IF CJ is the guy we think is the next Burrow, we have to trade up to 1 for him. It would be so easy for another team to jump us if we get to pick 3 or 5. We should probably do it before the draft to prevent any chaos. If we can do it and keep our 25 1st it will be a success IMO. 24 1st is probably certainly gone unless we trade a player like Burns.
  3. He seems like the safest pick. I feel like he will become anywhere from a Goff to a Burrow (best case obviously).
  4. Let’s not pretend like moving up to the mid 3rd to acquire a QB is some insanely high compliment. They were definitely intrigued by him, but if they thought he was a franchise guy the move would have happened a lot sooner. They gave up what a 4th comp and future 3rd for the trade? Corral has some potential, but our staff isn’t heavily invested in him which is why they are probably scouting QBs again for an early pick.
  5. We will see in April. Whoever goes higher than a mid 3rd is more than likely ranked above him.
  6. Burns plus 9 for the top pick and take Stroud. Sign Ngakoue as a Burns fill in until we find out next pass rusher. I would do this in a second. It will probably take more though…
  7. Yeah there is no Aqeel Glass this year…
  8. Yeah it seems like a pretty big flaw in their system if true. Those high rushing stats probably play some sort part in it though. I know their OL was considered bad before the season and was constantly shuffled/injured, throw it in with Fields sacks piling up (yeah he also holds the ball too long), I just have a hard time believing they aren’t bottom of the league. Looking at the top scramblers Jackson and Hurts also appear to have a top rated PFF OL. It’s definitely interesting… Here is another article in mid December talking about how confusing it is. https://www.bleachernation.com/bears/2022/12/16/wut-the-chicago-bears-apparently-have-a-top-10-offensive-line/ Mustipher and Lucas Patrick have pass-blocking grades that rank among the worst five at their respective positions. Meanwhile, Jones has a sub-70 pass-blocking grade as a left tackle. That’s sub-optimal when you consider that you’d want more from Justin Fields’ blindside I guess it only takes 1 or 2 to completely ruin a play. 2 of the starters at the time were bottom 5 with their LT not being too great either (all pass blocking).
  9. Chicago's OL want ranked higher in PFF mainly due to run blocking. They also battled injuries all year so it was constantly shuffled. https://www.si.com/nfl/bears/news/grading-the-bears-on-2022-season Their pass blocking was so bad it hid the fact they ran for more yards than any Bears team ever and the most in the league. More than 650 yards of Justin Fields' 1,143 came on scrambles, which weren't planned running plays and resulted from the line's inability to protect him. He suffered a league-high 55 sacks. The line did endure nine starting lineup changes due largely to injuries, but they suffered only one bonafide season-ending injury. Only two offensive linemen had as many as five penalties—Braxton Jones (10) and Sam Mustipher (5)—and those two accounted for seven of the line's 15 holding penalties. This unit was good enough to be ranked 14th best offensive line by Pro Football Focus. They're overrated. This was a ranking skewed greatly by their status as the top rushing team for the first time since 1986, and that rushing total was skewed greatly by Fields' scrambling. Basically their OL pass protection was so bad and their WR's weren't getting open so Fields HAD to run to gain yardage. However his elite scrambling gave his OL higher ratings in run blocking which is really because of their bad pass blocking? I think they broke the PFF algorithm??
  10. Hopefully they build a team around him and help him achieve his success. If they don't and/or he struggles, yeah they will be in the market again. Year 3 is usually a big year for QBs.
  11. SHHHHHH. Let the rumors continue! -Yeah Stroud really doesn't enjoy football. If I were picking in the top 8 I would stay the fug away from him.... I also head he puts ketchup on eggs and uses scissors to open chip bags.
  12. Exactly. If Fields went on the trade block, what would it cost to acquire him? Now pretend Sam isn't a FA and do the same thing.... NFL GMs are aware of the potential in Fields vs ceiling of Sam and it's a pretty big gap.
  13. Maybe or maybe they continue to develop their previous 1st round QB and put some talent around him. They should have some extra 1sts to move around and get their guy if they need it.
  14. Meanwhile it looks like Chicago is going to get a shitload of picks for their top pick because they don't need one. Having a QB changes everything.
  15. It's two extremes. I think Sam is who he is at this point after year 5. He looks to be a decent backup and can play well when everything is going well. Then looking at Fields he clearly has some growth to do after year two. If Chicago can get him a decent OL and some weapons next year SHOULD be a big year for him if not then there will definitely be questions around him in the offseason. Looking at Fields first full season as a starter he average 225 yards a game (very meh and 1/3 of them are from rushing which is fine for now, but not long term) 25 total TDs (so around 1.5 TDs a game) 11 INTS (so .66 a game) with 60.4% completion which was actually higher than Sam last year despite his best year yet.... His leading WR had just under 500 yards and 2 TDs (that's very similar to TMJ who wasn't even used all year). His TE looked like he was decent with around 500 yards and 7 TDs. With all of these issues in Chicago the Bear's offense still averaged one less PPG than us and more YPG. He looked more like a one man shows vs Carolina trying to limit their QB play. Fields definitely needs to develop as a passer, but there is a reason why the league is high on him and very indifferent on Sam. Different points in their career with very different ceilings.
  16. Hey if our biggest concern is who our backup QB is next year then I will consider it a good offseason.
  17. I couldn't have said it better myself. Well done!
  18. So in his 423 completions for 5701 yards and 67 TDs to 9 INTs with a 68.4% completion in college he never figured out how to make a layered throw? I get needing a mental adjustment from OSU to the NFL but he can throw the ball physically. Mentally he needs work... Looking at his draft profiles the weaknesses are getting off his first read and footwork in the pocket. Nothing to do with throwing ability. In fact you will see constantly able to make throws at all 3 levels mentioned.
