Roman Harper thinks Sean Payton could be our next HC now
ForJimmy replied to ncfan's topic in Carolina Panthers
Because at some point people want to retire. I just feel like he is at a point at his career where there is nothing left to prove. He could walk away in 2-3 years and go back to broadcasting with no issues. I mean he walked away from NO after their cap was jacked up and Brees retired. -

We dodged the whole Deshaun Watson circus and now we are trying to trade for an old coach that was over bounty gate and coached our rivals. Signing Payton is bad enough, giving away a future 1st to do so is just pathetic. We have some weird obsession with rethreads.... -

Don't trade for a 59 year old coach who constantly choked in the playoffs. He won't hesitate to walk away and join broadcasting if things are looking bad. There is nothing for him to prove. I want one of these young OCs while keeping all of our picks.- 285 replies

1/17 Athletic/Brugler Mock: Panthers Trade Up
ForJimmy replied to Bear Hands's topic in Carolina Panthers
Yeah I agree 100%. They need to be sold on him to draft him period, especially if they are throwing in future picks to acquire him. -

Yeah teams don’t trade out of “sure things.” We inquired about Burrow but the Bengals said nope. -

I get it, but if our staff thinks he is our franchise QB it's a gamble worth taking. -

If we walk away with Stroud and Gibbs without giving away too much I will be very excited! -

From 9 to 5 wouldn't mortgage our future. A future 1st would be the most it would require IMO. Maybe one of our 2nds plus next year's 2nd. -
He chokes in the playoffs Plus he loves Taysum Hill….

lol right? But think about it, replace Zach Wilson with Lamar Jackson and that team will be a tough opponent.
-
His top 2 landing spots are ATL and NYJ from what I've seen. NYJ would be pretty scary with Jackson at QB....

It may have been one of the best things to happen to us in a while honestly. Think about it, Rhule would probably still be here because we would have been just sitting stagnate waiting on Watson to play this past season.

Yes little capital. It was the 137th pick and a future 3rd to move up to 94 to acquire him. Considering the positional value of QBs in the league that is very little draft capital. Third round QBs are not "traditional" starters. https://www.yardbarker.com/nfl/articles/every_nfl_qb_picked_in_third_round_of_the_draft_in_the_21st_century/s1__37565457#slide_3 There is a list of recent 3rd round QBs. Mills started (but apparently should not have as they are correcting their mistakes and drafting one in the first), Brisset is a journeyman bridge QB, and Russ Wilson is the exception to the rule. None of the other ones amounted to much...

My point is he was simply using a saying that is thrown around in sports a lot to indicate a team is giving up a lot for a player. It's never literal. If it was literal then the Browns didn't do it either. They still have cap space and they still have draft picks. No one uses it in the literal sense because it is absurd in sports. You also have no clue what kind of contract we offered Watson either because it hasn't been disclosed. Carolina has leaked they wouldn't offer as much as Cleveland, but that was AFTER Watson picked the Browns. That is another thing you are leaving out. Watson has a no trade clause so he gets to decide where he wants to go no matter how many picks or much salary cap a team wants to throw away to acquire him. The decision was ultimately his.
-
Except when a player has a "no trade" clause like Watson does. He gets to pick where he goes no matter how much we try to trade away to acquire him.
-
Yeah I think my point is (like Greg Olsen) you can acquire talented TEs without spending a first round pick on one (especially not a top 10 pick). They are great to have, but tend to be a low value position for whatever reason.
-
This seems ironic. You have referred to Lance as a bust and are high on Corral?? Maybe you should practice what you preach. I haven't seen many posters declare Corral (a 3rd round pick) a bust. I have seen them state the odds are against him at getting significant playing time in Carolina with a new HC coming in a Corral being on IR last year with little capital invested in him.
-
It's a saying that means betting the future. You are not ABSOLUTELY correct, you just have a different opinion of what that means. The Browns still have cap space and some picks so they didn't risk "everything" to acquire Watson as that is completely unrealistic. Many analysts were saying the Niners "bet the farm" to acquire Lance which was 3 first rounds picks. Stop arguing about a simple saying a poster used that means they wagered a lot of future assets.
-
He is the most polished prospect by far. The height is the only weakness I see.
-
Plus Tepper is dying to get a QB. He will sign off on most trades to acquire one IMO.
-
Well the Browns offer was what? 3 first round pick? We know this now and we know our package was considered the better package. Connecting the dots tells me we were giving away quite a bit for Watson to come to Carolina. Trading the farm is pretty much an opinion statement so that can be interpreted differently by different people. I know current rules don’t let teams trade beyond 3 years worth of picks.
-
Yeah it will be a new HC/staff with Fitt handling the draft. No one knows what will happen despite what they think…
-
They definitely sent a trade package Houston’s way which was considered the best offer at the time. They didn’t want to guarantee all of that money though which is why Watson picked the Browns.
