  1. Haskins was the only player with the same coach/system. Ryan Day just became the head coach in 2019 and uses his own system. Which again is why it’s silly to right off prospects from an entire university that has had several staff/coaching changes. Also Texas Tech ran a QB friendly spread offense and what did the Chiefs do? Draft Mahomes and cater their offense to his strengths. Worked out pretty well...
  2. You think a man of his intelligence would step in and prevent that from happening. How do you know he left it to the “football people?” Do you have a source or just a random guess?
  3. Yeah they had a pretty dominate defense with Rex Ryan for a minute. Once the defense fell off they moved on from Sanchez...
  4. Which makes complete sense. Fields could have been even slightly higher, but Darnold comes with what we believe is an elite CB prospect. He even said (I know I’m going to butcher this up) we look at athletic ability/potential over stats to some degree when talking about Tremble.
  5. It’s not really relevant and has been debunked with Pat Mahomes, Peyton Manning, Watson, Russ Wilson, Aaron Rodgers all came from schools that hadn’t had success with players becoming legit NFL QBs. Researching for stats/intrigue is fun, but to using it to pass on a potential prospect would be silly. It’s like saying we should pass on Sam Howell because Mitch was a bust, Ronald Curry had to become a WR and not many UNC QBs have been able to have success in the NFL.
  6. Easier said than done. They are hard to come by. If two of the ones drafted this year become franchise guys that’s around the average. Hopefully Darnold will work out and we want have to do the QB shuffle. The good news if we have laid the foundation for a solid team overall. If we find ourselves continuing to search for a QB, whoever we bring in should have a solid team/foundation around them.
  7. I’m ok with giving him a chance. I think there is ability there. Just stating we didn’t pass on Fields because of his schools history of QBs. I would imagine a lot went more into it than that trivial point.
  8. What about Rodgers or Watson?
  9. Surely our genius owner would know better than to treat a QB this way or let his staff do so right? I mean he is insanely smart, rich and knows what he is doing. Don’t question Tepper again or he will flunk you out of Appaloosa School.
  10. Paid him $20 million a year and expected him to produce?
  11. Definitely risks on both sides. I would think a rookie is more of an unknown, but what we do know of Darnold isn’t very good. I am looking forward to seeing what our staff can do with a young QB with a good arm. I don’t think anyone is defending these past OSU QBs, just stating it’s a dumb reason to pass on a talented player. Saying player X is checking all the right boxes, but he played for a school that over decades of different personal and staff hasn’t produced an elite prospect in the (2 first rounders) previous players that were drafted from there seems like a bit of a reach...
  12. So one hasn’t played a snap, and one has a smaller sample size than Darnold who we are giving a pass.... got it.
  13. Hey the guy we signed came from a university full of high round busts, BUT look we found a university that’s worse! Problem solved...
  14. If Mark Sanchez is towards the top of that list it isn’t a very good list. Have USC QBs been better as a whole? Sure. The whole point is you have to look at each player individually. Not many of these OSU QBs were expected to be good or drafted that high. Pryor changed positions along with a few others. Haskins is the one who was drafted high and appears to have issues, but they are mostly mental. Good thing we still drafted a FSU DE after we had Everette Brown bust! Always evaluate the player, not the school’s history.
  15. Where is Mike Tomczak on this list??? That’s right, I googled!
  16. Yeah but you even clarified by talking about not drafting him. Look if we have “our guy” who cares how other draft picks play? If Darnold is a great QB, then we got a young QB and a potential shutdown CB for our first, next year’s second and some change. That’s a win right? People looking over their shoulders at players we didn’t draft hoping/assuming they will bust isn’t a vote of confidence for our staff or Darnold. I get it though, I’m as concerned as the next person about passing on Fields, but like I keep saying hopefully Darnold does great and it doesn’t matter.
  17. Trying to discredit another young QB to make ourselves feel better about our starter probably isn't a good thing...
  18. Oh no I get it. You can basically do the same with Alabama outside of Tua (who is still a question mark). It’s better to have a young QB that might not be terrible versus one we know is terrible. If we our bad this year I hope Mitch doesn’t prevent us from drafting Howell.
  19. This doesn’t work. Different coaches/schemes and players. Name a UT player that was great before Manning, LSU before Burrow, Texas Tech before Mahomes, and Clemson before Watson. It’s so hard to hit one a QB, few schools are going to have one or more that were great. Take away Carson Palmer and Darnold’s USC school isn’t looking too great either... Leinart, Sanchez, Barkley, Cassel, Booty (best name), Rodney Peete! Bengals are probably happy they didn’t let Russell, Mettenberger, Flynn etc discourage them from drafting Burrow. It has to be case by case...
  20. He isn’t more qualified than SCP!
  21. If an owner is confident in his/her GM and staff then they don’t need to be heavily involved in football decisions. If they want to be heavily involved then they might as well hire the cheapest GM they can find.
  22. I just think Fields is going to be good that’s all. Hopefully Darnold will too and it won’t matter!
  23. I think it was a mistake passing on him, but what do I know? Anyway, hopefully Darnold will work out and it won’t matter.
  24. It absolutely depends on if the player who is bringing the off field issues can win over the locker room and the team can get by the PR nightmare. Things are a lot different now and rightfully so. What if an established vet like CMC has an issue with Watson’s allegations? Also social media is going to probably crucify whatever team acquires Watson. Some players/owners/staff don’t want that distraction even if it is for a player of his caliber. Ray rice never bounced back from his off field issue, Greg Hardy couldn’t make his comeback. The game is just as much mental as physical. Watson has always operated with a clean image, it will be interesting to see how and if he plays with these skeletons out of his closet.
